Without meaning to be too cynical, this sounds exactly like Paul Johnson’s bio when we picked him up from West Coast. Not saying the result will be the same, just pointing out that annointing him the solution to both our ruck problem *and* third tall forward problem (as belzebub did in reply) is setting the bar very high.

If he was that good he’d be in the Norf ones and not getting traded. There is risk involved and the trade, and our expectations, should be weighted accordingly.

I’d still be looking at rucks in the draft, even if we get Preuss. (Edit: forgot about Bradtke on the rookie list, so maybe that’s enough project rucks on the list.)

How about Doyle?

Unsubstantiated rumour by an SEN listener this morning. Goldstein was spotted meeting with Geelong people last week and the listener is convinced Goldy will be at Geelong next year.

Can’t see Norf trading Goldy and Preuss unless they get someone like a Zac Smith in return.

Ah yes, Paul 'The Armless Man' Johnson so named for his failure to understand that if you're a tall chap picked to play as a tall chap lifting your arms above your head towards the incoming ball is really quite essential.

Preuss at least has the mongrel to go with his height and bulk, and is not averse to marking the ball above his head. Its fairly obvious that we can't keep playing Max in the ruck for most of the game as he will be cooked late in the season.

Give him  bit more credit than that - Paul Johnson was one of our great back pocket players during very dark times.

Prius on Max’s training regime.  Fit, big and strong.  Would be a great option to ruck/play a kick behind the ball, or as the monster forward.  If he commits to work like a beast, he will definitely improve our team.

He's one of those hybrid ruckman/forwards, is he?

At 206cms and 110kgs I wouldn’t ask him that question

He's an absolute beast.

Age claiming a straight swap with Dom Tyson. Hmmm, not sure how I feel about this. Guess it helps better balance our list

Whilst Tyson is no world beater, he is definitely no Gysberts either.

I would take that in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't. Only reason is to remove $500k from our cap and make room for May if Jesse stays.

So we could afford May and Jesse if he decides to stay?

I thought it was reported we couldn’t afford Jesse and May or do we not have the picks probs more so to satisfy GC?

We don't have the cap room, but getting rid of Kent, Tyson and maybe VDB should leave room even if Jesse stays.

and if jesse stays we could offer may a backloaded contract of $0 first year knowing jesse would go at end of next year

....assuming may can live off his savings for a year and free board at the romsey manor

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
