No Jetta in the 40, which I agree with.

He had quiet patches in the season.

Maxy and Clarry the only Dees included in the squad of 40. Congratulations boys

And both will be in the 22.

Nev stiff to miss the 40 but a year where there were a number of good small and mid defenders that had great seasons.

Sounds about right TBH. Nev a little stiff to miss.

Full seasons to Tmac and Brayshaw and I reckon they may have got the nod

Jetta is again robbed. So many players get in based on reputation alone. Jetta absolutely deserved to make the squad at least.

Well done to Clarry, what a star. Also if Gawn is not the starting ruck, it is an abomination. Grundy gets more fluffy disposals, but as a ruckman your primary job is to service your mids. Gawn has more hitouts to advantage than every club in the competition combined, not to mention the first ever ruckman to get to 1000 hitouts in a H&A season.

Yeah, Nev was stiff to miss out. I know Gus hasn't played a whole year, but I thought he'd played enough of it (all sublime) to be included anyway. Next year for sure!

Fair selections and both should be easy locks for the 22.

Obviously, full seasons to Brayshaw, Tmac wouldve seen them considered. Harmes' second half of the year has also been AA quality.

Brayshaw stiff not to make the Top 40.

If there were another 5 games left of the H&A season then he might have made the squad.  The same could be said of James Harmes, Nev Jetta and Tom McDonald.  All have had terrific seasons but I understand their omission as well.

Yes some lads unfortunate to not make the squad.

They'll just have to console themselves by being in the Premiership team ;)

Jetta had to make the squad of 40

Why ?

If I was picking 40 I wouldn't include him.

He was better last year.

Just looking at other players Harris Andrews is an interesting one, didn't realise he had such a solid season.

Will be interesting of Gaff makes the 22, he deserves to be there IMO.

I suppose they didn't pick any real shut down small defenders in the squad anyway, so I don't feel like he missed out to a similar player. They just rate the attacking defenders now it seems.

tmac should have made squad of 40. still played 17 games and his goal average was about the same as riewoldts

ended up with 48 goals and tons of score assists and involvements

demons weren't the highest point scoring club in the comp for nothing and deserved a fwd in the squad

Could have made a case for TMac given Gunston made the squad.

Having confirmed Demon haters  Ling, KB and Frawley among the selectors didn't help Gus, Nev or TMac.  Maxy and Clarry were always getting a guernsey though. As Jaded said, it Max doesn't get the No 1 ruck selection it an abomination. Not only that, it will make the entire selection process a joke.

How is Mark Blicavs in the squad, he is terrible

He's had a really good season as a KPD...well deserved.

Should probably make the AA 22...

Take off the red & blue glasses '11'.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
