No other votes. Sick of f*cking losing, and the guys above were the only ones who put in today.

As for Salem, repeatedly crumples under pressure in important moments.

Vandenburg, No no no

got a lucky goal.  Constantly outmatched and outmarked by Allir. Fell over. Several missed tackles. Not the worst but not in the best

Just got back.  Interesting spread of votes.  I thought Oliver was great in the second half, Frost had a great first half and did some good stuff in the second.  Salem was good all day as was Harmes.  Brayshaw solid enough and Tyson was good.  I thought Jones was poor with both decision making and skill.  Spargo will be good player but he isn't up to it yet; Hunt and Jeffy both pretty average.  Gawn is just so dominant it's hard to believe our mids don't make more of it.

6 - Harmes
5 - Salem
4 - Brayshaw
3 - Oliver
2 - Frost (I thought he did really well tbh, at no stage did I think Franklin was beating him. When Franklin got on top it was through their slick ball movement and our inability to cut his leads off)
1 - Tyson

I've got no idea how you could draw this conclusion from today. I thought he was outstanding and one of the few who stood up at all critical moments.

No way.

Yes, he kicked three goals. But his inability to compete with Aliir was a huge reason why they got on top. He couldn't beat him one-on-one, he couldn't block or body him, he couldn't get to the contests and he couldn't stop the rebound. I thought he was really, really poor (but yes, the three goals were important).

Usually too [censored] off to give votes after a game like but some efforts deserve recognition even after what the yanks call a cluster [censored] like that.

Harmes . a terrific all round game. took it on when needed and battled all day.

Clarrie. tagged but still got plenty of it. forgive his kicking

Brayshaw. See harmes above.

It gets tougher now

Omac.  Did what he had to and played with some composure

Salem. Tried and showed his class

Vanders. Far from perfect but he was played as a forward and kicked 3 .

6 Salem - Cleanest of our ball users all day and is now our most trusted defender. Hope his run in middle late was out of desperation and not something we will try at start next week.

5 Harmes - Love how everyone now realises how important he is. However his job was to stop Josh Kennedy for much of the day. If I was giving Brownlow votes it was 3 Heeney, 2 Salem 1 Kennedy, Harmes or Lloyd.

4 Tyson - fantastic second quarter and constant provider of drive from his wing. Opponent Hannebery did get it a bit too much though.

3 T.Mac - He missed a couple early as nerves took hold of side but came back later to nail a couple, including the one from outside 50m which was a gem.

2 Brayshaw - what a first term, although ultimately unable to hugely impact scoreboard.

1 Petracca - Handy as marking outlet up the line, but looked more dangerous than he actually was.

Olly and Jones - had their moments but their kicking was down compared to normal.

All other players drifted in and out of it, including our favourite big fella.

6. Harmes

5. Salem

4. Brayshaw

3. Oliver

Quarter one was stock standard, 2-4 were finals like and that’s where the better players shone through.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
