Do we want him?

I know who I would like him to replace and that's Chaplin.

Thoughts?

Did Sam Mitchell ever step foot in defence? ?

Edit: Said in trade thread, but he'd be perfect midfield coach and mentor to rejuvenate Dom Tysons disposal/footy IQ

Couldn't be any worse than Chaplin.

I have a feeling it’ll happen.

Mitchell will be at the MFC next year guiding the midfield.

Bring a good player does necessarily make you a good coach and Mitchell has had a reputation for not being the most personable or best communicator going around.

If we were to go after a former Hawthorn premiership captain, I’d throw the bank at Hodge, but I’d say there’d be very little chance of that happening.

This.

Also, I'm sure the popular opinion in some other recent thread was that we had too many inexperienced coaches around Goodwin.

10+ years under Clarkson and multiple flags and 2 years at Meth Coke, i would bet he has learnt a lot, far more than our midfield know thus far....

True, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he can communicate it effectively.  Don’t get me wrong, he was a brilliant player and clearly has a passion for coaching, but his success is no sure thing if his temperament isn’t right.

The appointment of Chaplin was a big concern for me given the way he departed Port Adelaide and the exceptionally poor judgement and communication he demonstrated.

I agree, but Chaplin isn’t Sam Mitchell and i would LOVE Sam Mitchell to work with Clayton Oliver and Angus Brayshaw

He knows how to run a midfield Engine deep into September

Just keep him away from the 2020 grand final team 20 year reunion.

Does anyone know how contracts work with assistant coaches?

As far as I am aware, August 1 is the deadline to finalise/renew contracts for assistant coaches. If any of our assistants are out of contract would we be made aware ( by the cutoff date) they won’t be continuing with us next year?

On radio it was stated Caracella and the Tigers are at a stand-off with negotiations and time is running out.

The AFLCA guidelines state clubs are ‘encouraged’ to notify all uncontracted coaches of their employment status for the following season by August 1. Apparently it’s more a rule of thumb and not an AFL rule.

Unlikely in my opinion. More likely to go back to Geelong than anything.

Or Caracella might get a senior job

Chaplin lost me last year when he was seen wearing his Richmond scarf, beanie, jumper and duffel coat to every Richmond final last year despite being a paid MFC employer.

Whether he can coach or not is another story. And it's questionable given he's the coach of our worst unit on the field.

Hopefully with Lewis as his assistant!
