It's funny how people say "I have faith in the match committee" when it's as clear as day they got it wrong in round 1 playing Maynard and Wagner who are nowhere near it.

I don't understand why you'd have faith in the match committee.

Neither Pedersen or T Smith are up to it. They only get in the way of Hogan and TMac up forward, are ordinary rucks, and give nothing at ground level once it's bounced. Why wouldn't you bring Frost in to provide the run you don't get from Lewis, Vince, and Jetta, the extra key position depth if Oscar and J Smith fail again, and a back up ruck that is quicker than all our one paced mids who watched Collingwood moonwalk the ball out of the middle?

I can't even be bothered talking about Tyson, who now takes us to 10 inside midfielders of the starting 22 and does nothing for the balance of the side.

Very underwhelming ins.

Have to agree that If anything we look slower than the team we took in against the Pies.

Surely we had to chance Frost for Vince down back for this big game?  Vince was due IMO being the worst of our defenders against the Pies.

Would have kept Spargo.

Bugg/Jeffy for Hannan who gave us nothing other than a couple of joe-the-goose goals last week.

Tyson for Spargo in the mid as you say makes us look super inside/pedestrian now and we lose our only crumbing forward

Haven't watched much of Port but i can only hope they are mostly inside / pedestrian slow in their mid field also.

Could get ugly with a 4 plus goal advantage from the umps at Adelaide.

What’s our record like coming off the bye in the last few years?

Port by 10.

That's goals

I take it that’s your Qtr time prediction?

I undertand the criticism of our backline but Port have a really inexperienced backline, I think our forwards could really capitalise on it. Should be a good game.

Correct Diamond, never made it that far. As you know, I spent time in Italy, Spain, Cuba , France as well as Idaho and other American states, but never Russia.  They obviously know nothing about Hemingway so it’s just a gimmick to get in the gullible tourists, particularly my fellow countrymen who as you know are not all that discerning regarding food choices or literary interests. Probably a hamburger joint.  So should be avoided at all costs.  One thing I did do when traveling was eat the local village food usually camouflaged in casseroles and stews. Enjoy your travels and have a drink for poor old crumbly Hem.

Looks almost like Russian nouvelle cuisine... probably a chain...they are big on chain restaurants in Russia.

They used to have vodka dives in the old days I hear but they have almost disappeared.

Just back from lunch at the Cafe Istanbul... very good cheap food but hell was it filling.

Went to the Spain v Iran game last night ... all I can say is thank God we don't allow vuvuzelas at the AFL !! There was a guy a couple of rows behind me who had a pump action klaxon horn. When he blew it and he did that often the sound just cut straight through me.

Interesting that the supporters of the big European teams are in the main absent for the group matches. Had to look hard for French and Spanish supporters.

My next match is Poland v Colombia which could be an epic as far as fan involvement goes.

Harsh on Tim.Smith he has been OK very stiff to be dropped for Pedersen which was a mistake. Although I think he was injured anyway.

If you throw a dart out a window enough times you're bound to hit somebody one day.  Today was that day.

I hope I made that post sarcastic yet ambiguous enough for them to ponder it.

Yuck.

We’ll most likely lose. But no meltdown necessary.

Still make the 8 easily. But should’ve been aiming for top 4 with this soft draw.

Well, I like the Ins. Smith moves more than Pedo and Tyson is a ball winner and this midfield needs to get the ball.

Was just ok against Carlton and Adelaide when you and I would have kicked a bag, and only got in the way of Hogan and TMac against the Bulldogs. Was very poor against the Dogs, doesn't play at Casey and then comes straight back in?

Need key position defensive depth and speed out of the backline (Frost) rather than a 3rd tall forward spoiling Hogan and TMac.

It really is like heavy rain is predicted and Goodwin wants to pick the toughest, slowest side he can pick.

I think Hogan and TMac are a far greater threat down forward than that imbecile Dixon or Westoff. Their main dangers are the 2 Grays.

People are comfortable putting their faith in the match committee because they are the match committee.

They're not, by comparison, the most pessimistic person I think this board, and possibly the internet, has ever seen.

You get stuck into the selections of Maynard and Wagner but push for Frost. Frost's biggest problem is the same one as those other two - none of them know what they are doing out there. They all turn it over, they all make regular mistakes, they all struggle with positioning. Frost brings run, but his negatives outweigh that run.

Happy Tyson is back

Is he related to Happy Hammond?

Too slow and too short down back. It will be a miracle if we win this match. If we do, I will eat my cap.  However, when I feel this way, we sometimes win.

Now to the World Game. The World Cup always puts Aussie Rules into perspective.

Yes it points out hoe much better our game is

Why isn’t Garlett in the side?

tim Smith??? Just why??? This is the most important game we’ve played in 10 years and we play Smith?

We gotta win the midfield and be hard at the contest.  We don’t want to be playing this from our back half.  That is a recipe for disaster.

Team would look a lot more balanced with Garlett in it.

We dont have a small forward.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
