Given our almost annual visit to the cattery I was shocked and disbelieving when reading the report on our game V Carlton. It revealed that Carlton has not played at Geelong since Round 20 1997. 21 years!

How can this be possible?  AFL, please explain. Talk about looking after the so called major clubs in the competition.

The Hawks haven’t played the Lions at the Gabba in 10 years I believe and that came back to bite them today. Yes the fixture is a FIXture that’s for sure.

Yes it seems to have had a dramatic effect on Carlton’s chances to make this years finals...who gives a flying facacia after today’s win.

Easy solution would be to just play everyone once and alternate the home games every other year. Of course this would also mean the Cats would have to play in Geelong.

But the AFL don’t seem to really follow logic

The FIXEDure is just one more example of the corrupt culture that is the AFL.

It didn't really matter today because we got to play on the MCG but that was our fourth away game in a row.

But next week we are at home in Alice Springs!!

The Blues truly showed why they're worth so many Friday night games this year.

What do you mean it's fixed??

Its not designed to be fair.  Until we prove beyond any doubt we deserve it, we will get the junk end of everything AFL.  3 flags should do it.

When did Collingwood, Essendon or Hawthorn last play at the Cattery?

It is always Melbourne, North, Western Bulldogs, Fremantle etc.

Geelong has the only real Home Ground advantage left out of all the Victorian teams.

The corrupt AFL  - it is and always will be about $$$$.

All good points. Cats are unlikely to play Collingwood, Tigers, Bombers and Hawks much down there. Bigger supporter based clubs would see a lot of their fans unable to gain entry. I think the cats have been allowed to create a nice little advantage for themselves. We of course, choose to play at The Alice to defray any such home ground advantage accusation.

Very subtle ... this fact proves to be an eternal question. It is a bad as touching umpires and getting away with it.

Richmond played down there last year.

To be fair when the draw was made Richmond were a shambles. They were widely expected to be cellar mice in 2017.

Carlton are driving down the Princess next weekend to face the angry kittens.

Nothing at all to do with what is deserved. CFC’s run of prime time games is proof of the power of Visy paper bags.

It's not fair for Essendon to have to play us at the MCG as an away game, so they don't.

Perhaps a Victorian club for China next year ... I vote for the Pies but seeing that it is such a high profile TV game why not send the "Friday night darlings" otherwise known as Carlton.

"Gold Coast have said now that two games there is enough and they don’t want to go back to China next year. But someone will. Initially reluctant, the AFL has been persuaded about the merit of the game by the TV numbers and the scope for new advertisers and sponsors, so someone else will be dispatched to Shanghai next year.

The Victorian government has said they are behind the idea of continuing games there, and would likely throw in some funding to give the idea added impetus. The federal government will not have been displeased that the game provided a thaw for frosty international relations.

As a football match it was more trade mission than game.

We can assume then a Victorian team will play Port Adelaide there next year. There is no end of Melbourne teams reliant on the AFL drip-feed, but presently none more so than St Kilda. Last year they received as much in their AFL distribution as clubs in the expanding markets. Logically it looks like the Saints in China next year."

You need to take off your one-eyed blinkers - all the “major” / large crowd clubs would say the AFL look after the small clubs by taking money out of their pockets via the redistribution fund.

I 100% agree with our CEO Peter Jackson - you earn your own fixture.

Now don’t blame winning or losing - it’s all attitude, mindset of your supporter base and the clubs ability to sell hope.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
