Just think its worth an enquiry to Dylan's manager.

He is contracted til end of 2019, but that Giant Beanstalk seems to be withering.

Will he wither on the Vine?

Also Lachie Whitfield, but he is contracted til end of 2020.  But this could be better for us re available trades for use ?

we don't have the assets to trade for him

free agency all the way - gaff, dahlhaus this year; shiel, coniglio next year

I feel like this questioned gets asked every year.

I don't think we'll be in the market for him, especially while under contract.

Shiel would be the perfect understudy to Jones, who has maybe a couple more in him?

With all the talk of Gaff etc, I just wonder if anyone has made any contact to suss his position, Prior to us going spending this year.

We have to continue to AIM High... not settle for just deserts.

Shiel is one of my favourite players but it would cost 2 first round picks.

We dont have the currency, hence the club will be going all guns blazing to bring in a free agent this year.

He is a gun. Wins his own ball on the inside,  has great acceleration from stoppages.  Often does the give & get, gains plenty of metres and good kick.  Doubt we have the draft fire power to get this done.

I reckon Josh Kelly only re-signed so he could chase the on field success everyone thought was coming. Quick two year contract taking him through to the end of ‘19 and then back home.

Success or not i think you’ll see a number of GWS players heading home before their best playing days are over. Hopefully we will be able to benefit from this.

I'd take him in a shot. Fills a lot of needs for us. I was banking on us getting Prestia who was the same, and apparently we very nearly did. Gaff probably the priority, but failing that, I'd take Dylan. Not that we have much to trade.

I would say we need to look after a few people currently at MFC and aim on keeping them considering the development work that has gone into them .( i.e. T@OMac, Hoges etc who are key players. From all accounts we have sold the Southern Stand for one of our "newies"

Is Gaff better than Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw, Petracca ?  Plays a different role than Jones . ANB , Hannan could develop into a 2020's Jones.( Remember that Harmes is probably just as good a player as Jonesy back at the same age.

Our immediate problem is replacing Vince & Lewis in a  couple of years.

You don't turn down good players but wing/half back class and a gun small forward are probably still the priorities I'd think.

Expect Carlton to put their first round pick on the table for Shiel or Kelly (or both), they are Sos' favourite players and they need to land a mature mid to kick start their rebuild before it massively flops. North will try the same as well.

Anyway, unless ware linked to a player we don't need to be bringing up names. We have a team with a few weaknesses but also a few strengths as is right now.

Gun player and you'd certainly make room for him the side, but hard to see how we'd fit him into the cap? Need to keep enough room for Brayshaw, O and Tmac and Hoges of course...

Shiel is a star. I’d offer a 6-year contract worth $800,000 per year.

But we would be unlikely to have such room under the salary cap plus we have NOTHING to trade.

We'll be paying very close to this for Gaff, if he comes our way.

Maybe we would be better going after RSloane this year;  and aiming at DShiel in the 2019 free agency?

Certainly would offer us something that we don't have a great deal of - breakaway speed from the stoppages. Would love playing under Max, that's for sure.

What we need in the short term is a speedy midfielder which shiel is. He would cap off our midfield nicely.

Too good a player to ignore if available unless his price tag is ridiculous.

I actually think he has slipped a bit and is not as good as he was.

Kicking is terrible and a turnover merchant when the going gets tough

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
