At some stage this season and hopefully soon, we need to announce the re signings of the Mcs, Gus and Jetta.

That will allow us to move forward, without conjecture on those players.

I asked Josh Mahoney a couple of weeks ago, don't have to hide my source, of course he said we are interested in Gaff, like any player

Can confirm that we wouldn't be interested in 'any' player.

And no, I didn't ask Mahoney.

I for one would be satisfied if Dom left for greater opportunities... aside from disposal errors, he's a  solid contributor...but as it stands in this team in 2018 - he doesn't make it into the best midfield that we can put on the ground.

Dom and our 2nd round pick (pick 36) for Carlton's early 2nd round pick (pick 19) ?

Great way to free up some salary cap space, let Taylor work his magic on pick 19 and then get Gaff.

Dom isn't a pick 25 at Melbourne.

It’s all relative. He’d be a top 10 at Carlton or St Kilda.

Yes but they certainly wouldn't give up pick 10 let alone 25 or even 35 imo

I'm quite confident we will not lose TMac, Oscar seems certain to re-sign and Gus also seems a formality.

Jetta will never ever leave the Demons pending some unforeseen family circumstances that may see him want to move west. Can't see it though, he will be a Demon for life.

No inside knowledge on any of this just my opinion.

If he gets us back into the first round or gives us currency to use on a guy like Gaff I wouldn't hesitate.

Let's not over-speculate; it pushes up the price of recruiting astronomically.

If Gaff wants to be a Dee, it is up to him to show it with subtle resolve; if we want him, we could come together with Gaff to support this arrangement/outcome.

With an environment of varied form and injury risks remaining ever-present, any good price is enough if the player wants to occupy a position in an emerging superteam.

It does not need to be the highest price - if that is all Gaff wants, then we really don't need him.

If he is a fair dinkum bloke, and everything points towards that being the case, he will be a Demon on these terms in 2019 and from that, will be much appreciated in a continuous appearance in coming grand finals for the Dees.

Gaff's good, but I think we can do better.   Maybe Sloane this year on a heavy front ender, and Kelly in 2019, on a looong deal?

Previous to this year he lacked inside work. He’s now doubling the amount of clearances per game compared to last season and averaging two more contested possessions per game.

It would be a minor scandal if somewhere along the line it was whispered in his ear that he'd need to improve in these areas if he wanted to come to us. But not outside the realms of possibility. Pretty sure Sylvia had to demonstrate his certain predilections before being determined a cultural fit in the West.

Edit: No offence to your good self of course Mr Tremblay.

Channel 7 Perth just reported that Paul Connors is here to discuss “expressions of interest” with Gaff. Reeled off all the clubs we already know are keen including MFC.

Last time we wanted Paul Connors to get us a #3 from West Coast didn’t go so well.

True, and he wasn't pleased with us over the Watts trade last year, but Connors is a pro and speaks highly of our list and direction.

We are almost a completely different club to the one Juddy visited in '07.

Goodness me, this bloke is a jet and will contribute to our side amazingly.

Today he was absolutely pivotal in so much of the Eagles play.

We desperately need a player of Gaff’s qualities and skills.

Go and get Gaff.

Totally agree. We are clearly still 2 to 3

quality players short of being a top 6 side.

I think we're a top 6 side fully fit. Add Gaff to that side and we're nearing top 4.

Our biggest problem for mine is that despite what some say, our depth is really ordinary and our bottom 4 to 6 are a) too inconsistent at best or b) Not good enough to be playing in a top 8 side.

Disagree AF, our bottom 6 are no worse than anybody elses.

We lack outside polish and experience on the outside, we're not far away as those can be fixed with recruitment and gametime

Gaff the player would be excellent but the added knowledge he'd bring from the Eagles would be invaluable.

From an impeccable source . . .

Gaff has been offered six million over seven years by a Victorian club (not us) with lots of cash. Contract would be substantially front loaded.

A number of Victorian clubs are right into Jeremy McGovern as well. Don't know if we are one of them.

Norf have been rabbiting on about their "war chest" for the past couple of years. Saints would have e fair bit of breathing space in their cap post Reiwoldt & Montagna

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
