Port Closer than Dees to a Flag says Jack Watts

Great for trenners he has another shot at AFL. Nice synergy, given what he and Watts has gone through together.

I would have preferred him to Best on ground in Casey’s 2018 Premiership!

And he is exactly right!

JW WILL  star this year Port will go close

And many on this site will have nervous moments!

Bad move will haunt us BIG TIME!!

In 4 years time it will be interesting to see how many games, goals and success Watts has had in comparison to Fristck

not massively interesting, just a little bit

Given he was shown the door, I'd be astounded if Watts thought Melbourne was closer to a flag than most other teams in the AFL. Really, it's pretty routine media fluff.

Hilarious, the trash talk is real!

Best decision I’ve made? Turn it up, Jackie Boy!

They’d find it easier to win a flag if they could beat top 8 sides

last year they had a great draw and run with injuries and still just scraped in for finals, fell out first round.

Tougher draw this year and recruiting has been overrated. They’ll play finals but so will we

If they do make the GF he will be the one who gets them there.

I like your confidence however sides with strong home ground advantage can finish with home finals.  PA might get lucky like the Tigers did. lets wait and see.

On the same page. Been on my mind since drafted

Good one.

I'd love to be playing Port in the GF.  That would be a nice way to put Jack's judgement to the test. I'll back mine over his every day of the week in the very unlikely event that that circumstance should arise.

What if we play Pert in the Grand Final??

Will there be some confused Demonlanders?

I will be surprised if they play finals in 2018 but then again stranger things have happened...

Jack Watts new interview:

“You know”, says Jack, “this is a team that is more likely to carry me to a flag.  It was a great decision- I had to be responsible, train hard and do the team things at Melbourne.  I think they were forgetting I am number 1 draft pick.  I am number 31 draft pick here, and these idiots think that is better.  Anyway, I have hooked up with a bunch of guys and, provided I say the right things, will get a free pass all the way to September.

What is even better is they recruited a bunch of flakes lazier than me.  By the time Motlop and some of these other guys have been made the whipping boys for the season, I can get a few possies, sell some boardies, smile for the kids and grannies (I hope they don’t smile back, they have no teeth and their breath reeks like the Alberton sewer) and think about going over to Toumpies house for a beer or 3.”

Interview ends.

Some of you are taking this way too seriously. Watts is supporting his new team just like Lever, Lewis, Frost, Bugg, Tyson, Garlett, McKenna, Vince, Hibberd and Melksham do for us now. Double standards abound.

Maybe a more pertinent question is:  "are Melbourne closer to a Flag without Watts?"

Or How di getting rid of Watts improve our list. In my opinion not one iota

Really? Nah, maybe Rockliff.

Remember they had a dream run with injuries. Probably won't happen again.

If you get rid of a negative that's a positive. Just sayin..

And Jack would know this how exactly?

Is it from his numerous years as the leader of a perennial finalist?

Not only were we rubbish while he was here, he never threatened to get into our woefully thin leadership group. This was illustrated best when he was asked in the wake of 148 about what could be done to turn things around ‘We don’t have leaders like Luke Hodge or Joel Selwood who can take charge at our club’.

Those there sound like the words of a battle hardened pro who knows what it takes to win in September.

He did participate in a beard growing contest once though.

He should hope it’s not us they play on grand final day then. Boak is the only one that shows up against us.

And to win a flag you need to beat top sides, which Hinkley never does.

Total over reaction and hysteria by the media trying to make it into a story.

Of course he is going to say port.  And yeah maybe dont act like u chose to go to port, I mean Melbourne did force your hand to move.

But im not offended. Would there be the same over reaction if trenners said it. I laughed when watchingthe news last night and they said it will motivate Melbourne.  We should be using our own stuff up last season as motivation.

Obviously the media are trying to get afl back into the news.

Whist I generally agree that it wasn't that much of an out there thing to say, I  still think it's pretty dumb on  behalf of JW.  Regards Trenners, I recon he would be smarter and too modest to get suckered into making a statement like that.  It's not like this will become the whole motivation for our preseason, but guys like Jones, Viney and Goody will probably throw it out there to the playing group when play Port I'd say.  It will certainly add a bit more spite to comming up against JW.

He isnt wrong.  Port played finals last season and have added experience players to fill gaps.  We havent played finals in 11 seasons and showed in 2017 we still are mentally soft till we can address that we have no chance playing finals let alone a gf.  Moving Jack on was a step to address this but only a small one

Agree. Watts is just supporting his new team.

Do you think he would trash talk Port by saying they are way off or that this is a bogun place!!

Really

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
