Keep him away from Petracca then.

It was straight out in front from thirty but you still gotta kick em.

"Charlie out of the spa and ready to go" (MFC website).

Is that the worst pun of all time?

Yes, but only because they didn't think of "Charlie out of the spa - go time!"

Jeffy really needs consistency not just form.

Form is a level of consistency isn't it? If your out of form you have no consistency?

You can be consistently out of form though........can't you?

Disagree with this. Garlett has been in the game for 10 years and over that period has been one of the most consistent small forwards around. Including his time at Carlton. His 2014 was a complete bomb but I was informed by someone at the the Blues that this was mainly due to off-field family issues. Then Malthouse had his fire sale.

No doubt his form was off for 2 weeks. Perhaps form, desire, our crap forward setup & entries - who knows. Conditions perhaps ? When he was young I recall him being good in the wet (I always feared him when we played Carlton) but recently he's been the worst wet tracker since Let's Elope

I hope he finds touch real quick. With the forward line we could have, I would love to see Charlie and Jeffy creating havoc amongst it

Lies, damned lies & statistics. Nonetheless, here are some Garlett stats. Make of 'em what you will

Year Games Goals Avge Gls Tackles Avge Tackles

2009 10 12 1.2 23 2.3
2010 20 39 2.0 73 3.7
2011 24 48 2.0 96 4.0
2012 22 29 1.3 72 3.3
2013 22 43 2.0 76 3.5
2014 9 12 1.3 23 2.6
2015 22 40 1.8 90 4.1
2016 17 29 1.7 54 3.2
2017 21 42 2.0 74 3.5
2018 5 9 1.8 15 3.0

  172 303 1.8 596

3.5

Interesting that hes had more 40+ goal seasons than Jeff Farmer did (though none as brilliant  as Farmers best few seasons)

Hopefuly he can find form, nowhere near it right now.

Im just curious what Spargo Fritsch and Jeffy might do in a game. Maybe either Bayley or Jeffy plays higher on a wing

All have goal sense...all can use the ball. Garletts skills are sublime when he's on. Maybe he just needs a nudge out of his malaise ;)

Yes you can,? In form is a level of good consistency, out of form is a bad level of consistency, i would have thought?

Was excellent today.

Great vision, thinking in traffic and very quick hands.  Can see him dishing out some lightning handballs from a congested midfield in the coming years.

He really looked like he had played with his new teammates for many seasons. A real team player. Well done Charlie!

One of the more impressively debuts I’ve seen from an MFC player.

He reminds me of Gary Moorcroft with respect to his size and position.

Let's hope he's better than that spud.

I was getting excited about Spargo...that ruins it lol

Just watched the replay and saw Spargo having a go at Goddard again in the context of the match. Whatever you think of Goddard he is a 300 gamer, former captain of his club and dual All Australian player. For Spargo, the smallest bloke on the field but, more importantly, a first gamer to push Jones aside so he could get a better purchase on Goddard I found extraordinary. The kid has chutzpah. It made me laugh..

What was the lead up the the remonstrations with Goddard ?. .... was it just that he is the least likeable of all AFL players in my memory (including Boomer Harvey, and that is saying something) or was there something else specific in addition?

Doesn’t matter if we don’t have a 1st round pick (at this stage) when you can draft the likes of Spargs and Fritter.

Our first two draft picks last year were 29 (Spargo) and 31 (Fritsch) and both are already getting regular games in their first season.

That's what I call good drafting.

Jason Taylor and his assistants are freaking awesome.

Not only is it good drafting, but they're not getting games because we have no one else.  They're keeping out very experienced and capable players.  It's fantastic to watch.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
