Any Chance Jake Spencer back to MFC as Rookie?

Featured Replies

Just read on the AFL site that Jake is still training with Melbourne teammates. Any chance that we pick him up as a rookie? He knows us and we know him. Played well when he got his chance last year.

Why would he be training with us then? Has training actually started yet?

who do you suggest he trains with then?

he's a delisted free agent who needs to keep up his fitness if he is a chance to get drafted

quite common to train with one's club until draft time. it's the right thing to do. doesn't mean we intend to rookie him.

The article says he's training with Melbourne team mates, not with MFC, so probably just keeping fit if another opportunity presents.

I would think Jake's time is up at the MFC...he's had ample opportunity, maybe he will get a shot somewhere else and good luck to him if he does.

If Gawn misses any games this year it’ll be  up to Pedo and Tmac or they might look to blood Mitch King at some stage.

Good God no

I want the club to improve...

i have watched rubbish get paid for decades...

I would be very surprised if he got another chance at another club. 28 with only something like 38 games since 2009 and with very limited talent in a very poor period at the club. Pass AFL career looks over.

His sessions with ex team mates are probably unofficial as it's annual leave time for the list. I would think this covers the club in the event he is injured

God no, epitome of a list clogger.

You're a classy fella.

Let's get Brent Grgic back as well eh?? DOH!

we need to pick up a mature age ruck in the draft.  I dont want T Mac to have  to ruck if gawn goes down.  he is key up fwd now and we are getting light on talls

He's had ample opportunity? Rubbish. He's been most unfortunate and good team management over the past two  years would have involved him playing more

Which is an outright disaster. Appalling failure unless we pick up a mature ruckman. We could lose Max before the season even starts. Would you be content if Pedersen and Tom  had to do the job all year? FFS!

He's been on the list for what, 9 years now. I would think that's more than ample opportunity.

I will raise your rubbish and call BS on your good team management post...he is a VFL ruckman at best.

And I think you are being generous. He's been slaughtered in the past 2 VFL finals series.

Agree 100%, unfortunately he just isn’t good enough, he doesn’t dominate in the VFL, and massacred in finals. Would rather TMac, Pedo combo and bring Weideman into forward line.

NO NO , NO while we are at it, lets get Juice back, Kicked 8 for Wangarata In GF yer why not!!

Good thinking, actually. Jake impressed with his rucking and given a chance to take a speccy or two, certainly was a mini-rock of Gibraltar, when required. He is a good both-sides tap, reading the flight and position that is required, well.

I always thought that he was the preferred backup to Gawn during Gawn's injuries. Whilst 3 others did very well in that role, the team was unbalanced and a few slipped by on the scoreboard when maybe, Pedo, Watts and McDonT might well have been needed in their normal playing roles for vital moments of several quarters across the past season.

I'd like to see Jake Spencer back on the list - he is a valued asset as far as I am concerned.

I thought Jake was really looking the goods a year or two ago. Last season he was very ordinary. Not sure who you're talking about with 'take a speccy or two'  but clearly you're confusing him with someone else.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
