The whole thing is a bit of a fluke but good on him for starting a business and getting lucky.

Strauss and Bail were also involved, hopefully they kept their shares.

Also it's not real money if you can't sell your shares, so it might be a little premature.

Read the article.  It wasn't a fluke!  It was being creative with his business, hard work, IT intelligence, seeing opportunity and seizing it - and as he says, creating culture in his workplace.

Lucky be damned

As no better coach then the great man  Napoleon Bonaparte himself said

'I would rather have a general who is lucky than one who is good'

The 'post football' career of footballers is worthy of study.... the 'tradesman' footballers often seem to benefit more than the gifted, with exceptions of course.

Joel MacDonald is listed on the stock exchange. James Hird I saw the other day promoting chocolate in a super market..... go figure.

Nice to see such a young bloke steering a $100,000,000.00+ company! Not many people on this planet have achieved that plus an AFL career! ?

Reported on BF that Joel's company may not be travelling as well as has been made out:

(there is a firewall)

" ...Tim Hannon, chief investment officer at Newgate Capital Partners, is shorting the stock.

"We think GetSwift is a company that has developed a product with a useful but very limited application," he said. Mr Hannon said the company has made "a series of regular, high level announcements that lack substance or are unclear ...."

I want one of those companies where you burn 100 million and make 90 million and have potential billions to come in.

Delivering fired chicken to bogans can't be that hard.

As long as Joel's not being caught out spending company dollars on the 3Ps (porn, punt and prostitutes).

When the market starts shorting your stock watch out. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Profits though are over rated it seems... just look at Facebook, Uber etc and the other darlings that lose money hand over fist.

Facebook will probably come good simply because marketers cannot ignore the platform (unfortunately)but Uber will always be an easy target for competition. In Asia it is Grab for example.

Good Luck Macca .. if someone's going to make the money it may as well be an ex Demon

Non firewalled article - https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/allegations-threaten-the-120-million-business-of-exafl-player-joel-macdonald/news-story/0ac6c38281af8fcbb8fbaff4a1ae5513

Lucky we didn't announce them as our major sponsor a few days ago. This turn of events would have been a very MFCSS thing to have happened in some alternate universe.

He was a reliable, dedicated and consistent performer. Give him his dues...

Might have been reliable & dedicated but still a poor selection by the Club IMHO.  He was courageous but not overly quick & had very average skills.  Basically a Casey level player useful as a backup.  To add further insult we picked him in the 09 pre season draft ahead of Dylan Grimes.

Won't be the only company to not meet continuous disclosure obligations. Plenty of others have done it and got away with it. A certain former Tasmanian timber company comes to mind.

You complain about Joel's skills, then whinge because we didn't pick up Dylan Grimes instead?

Wow.

Wow.

And here's me thinking that the whole point of football was to win premierships.

Obviously the Richmond coaches think Grimes skill are adequate for the job but you obviously know better.

Dylan Crimes, Mitch Morton, Steven Armstrong, Trent West...

Front seat passengers of a premiership side.

Grimes is a hack.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
