The first of the daily updates from Trade Radio:-

• The Brisbane Lions General Manager of Football David Noble saying the club is likely to lose Tom Rockliff once Free Agency gets underway. Port Adelaide seems to be leading the way Rockliff but Carlton and Essendon are also in the mix.

• Noble also confirmed the Luke Hodge deal could be close to getting over the line with the likelihood that he will the join the club, potentially even for two years.

• GWS ruckman Shane Mumford will need to prove he is physically able to play on in 2018 as he deals with ongoing foot and knee issues. Mumford’s manager Anthony McConville seemed to indicate that the Giants aren’t confident he’ll pass the required medical tests. However, McConville said Mumford is very unlikely to seek a trade out of GWS.

• Brendon Ah Chee has reportedly requested a trade from Port Adelaide, with Gold Coast and the West Australian clubs looking like the clubs that will target him.

Jack Watts was linked to the Power earlier in the week, but Sydney has now entered the mix to claim the former number one draft pick.

Day 2 highlights from Trade Radio

Jake Lever and Matthew Kennedy requesting trades from Adelaide and GWS respectively with the former expected to join Melbourne with the Crows holding firm to their desire to receive two first round picks for him. Kennedy has nominated Carlton as his preferred destination.

• Carlton is also in the hunt for free agent Tom Rockliff, who is expected to announce his club of choice later in the week. Port Adelaide is still very interested in the former Brisbane skipper.

• Port Adelaide is also chasing Geelong free agent Steven Motlop although Motlop was spotted touring the facilities at the Gold Coast Suns earlier today. Motlop could be used to get the Gary Ablett deal over the line if he agrees to be traded despite the fact he is a free agent.

Jack Watts spoke to the media today to address his apparent departure from the Demons and while he said he was shocked to learn he was asked to explore other clubs by Melbourne, the former number one draft pick didn’t mention any potential teams he could be joining. He has been previously linked to both Port Adelaide and Sydney.

This could be a very good outcome for us in more ways than 1 - regarding securing Lever at the right price.

Melbourne football boss Josh Mahoney has covered a range of topics on SEN Radio this morning.

On signing Lever:

“We're really happy Jake has made this decision. About a month ago, we knew Jake was looking to return to Victoria but it was only on Monday that we got the phone call. He's only played about 50 games but we think he plays with a lot more maturity.”

On getting the deal done:

“We'd expect a first and future second round draft pick would be a reasonable offer for Jake.”

On Jack Watts:

“That's never been about money, it's about performance. He's very clear on our expectations about him. To hear Jack speak yesterday, he's a very passionate person but we want Jack to be the player he should be.

I believe you Josh. I'm sure the club knew nothing before Monday.

• The talk today was dominated by Jeff Kennett's return to the Hawks as president.

• Melbourne Footy Operations Manager Josh Mahoney offered a strong view on the exiting Jack Watts, saying his on field performances weren’t up to what they expect of a 150 game player.

• Player manager Ned Guy was announced as the new list manager of Collingwood.  Guy manages Jake Lever and Devon Smith who is yet to nominate a club, but has been seen touring the facilities at Essendon and Carlton, while St Kilda is also in the mix to go with Collingwood.

Thanks WJ. Busy day again

Just a query.  Wattsy.... “performances not up to grade expected of a 150+ game player”.

Vince?? 200+ games and offered extension?? How.  He was so very very poor in 2017.

I thought McCartney and Goodwin said Watts was stuck in a rut, then too inconsistent and then off field example and training were poor. Now not up to 150+ game standard.  We would be lucky to get a 4th round pick with all these issues. How can they talk him down then expect trade value pick at 20-25. Strange.

Bernie Vince has won B & F’s Norm, his overall career has been of a much higher standard.

Could you imagine Jack Tagging Patrick Dangerfield out of a game?

Agree about Vince, I would of rather we went for Rockcliff over Vince and I think we could of got him.

Vince is probably on a much smaller deal, will happily play at Casey, and is worth it for leadership and stability around the place.  Maybe not best 22in our GF team, but I have no problems with him being around the team if he is setting great training standards and team first attitudes for the developing kids.

A massive day for NAB AFL Trade Radio

• At Essendon Football Club, Devon Smith announced his desire to be traded to the club. Jake Stringer and Adam Saad are also moving toward nominating the Bombers, which would add great depth if they can pull all three trades off. Saad will not be returning to the Gold Coast for cultural and family reasons.

• Charlie Cameron has requested a trade to the Brisbane Lions, despite remaining contracted at the Crows until the end of 2018. Cameron reportedly finished his exit meetings at Adelaide today and informed the club of his decision.

• GWS defender Adam Tomlinson is weighing up a long-term contract from St Kilda. Tomlinson re-signed with the Giants until the end of 2019 earlier in the season, but the Saints’ big-money offer has him in two minds. St Kilda holds picks seven and eight in the draft. Collingwood is also interested in Tomlinson.

• Gold Coast appointed Stuart Dew as its new coach, beating out John Barker and Scott Burns for the role. Dew has been an assistant coach at Sydney since 2010 and was previously in the mix for coaching jobs at Melbourne and Brisbane.

• Jackson Trengove will become a Bulldog tomorrow morning as the free agent was spotted at the Whitten Oval sporting a Western Bulldogs uniform for a photo shoot. Port Adelaide also look set to lose Jarman Impey who wishes to return to Victoria.

• The first move of the season was free agent Jackson Trengove who joined the Western Bulldogs from Port Adelaide.

• Fellow free agent Steven Motlop has another suitor in Adelaide. Motlop has also spent time at both Port Adelaide and Gold Coast over the last few days.

• Essendon forward Aaron Francis has requested a trade home to South Australia, despite remaining contracted at the Bombers.

• Adam Saad is eager to return to Victoria for cultural reasons. Essendon is the frontrunner for Saad.

Jack Watts is set to meet with Geelong about a potential move to the club.

• a number of players requested trades including Brisbane forward Josh Schache who wishes to return to Victoria [stop press: Schache has now nominated Collingwood as his preferred destination].

• Jarman Impey and Brendon Ah Chee requested trades from Port Adelaide, looking to join Hawthorn and West Coast respectively. Hawthorn list manager Graham Wright said his club’s priority was securing Impey.

• Adelaide list manager Justin Reid said his club had “moved on” from Bryce Gibbs as he appears to be happy at Carlton. Gibbs is contracted with the Blues through to 2019. Also not going anywhere is Adam Tomlinson. GWS list manager Craig Cameron ruled out any possibility of Tomlinson being on the trade table.

• Port Adelaide superstar Robbie Gray revealed he has had surgery after being diagnosed with testicular cancer. Gray will undergo preventative chemotherapy, but the club expects him to be healthy for pre-season training in November.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
