Misson's Time Up?

As you know guys i rarely start threads in here but IMHO this club has never really hit any highs of late in terms of being able to match it with middle of the road or better teams for four full quarter efforts on a consistent basis since Misson's arrival.

We often go missing in at least one quarter of football in most games.  Yes this might be an inexperience / youth factor but we see other youngish teams managing to do this in the majority of their matches with some of them, even making finals at times and upsetting the top ranked clubs on occasions.  We were even over run by a very mediocre Collingwood in the last round with everything to play for and again went missing for a good portion of the match.

Yes i get we had many injuries this year, which crueled us and the fitness dept from being able to get our better players on the park often enough.  However, when we were able to get them back, many of our top liners never reached their peaks from earlier in the year and in many cases seemed to really struggle to acheive a decent level of fitness, appearing to have dropped well away from AFL levels when they returned eg;  Watts,  Jeffy,  Big M and Viney (seemingly returned too early also...poor decision??).

Am i clutching at straws here or do others see this as a significant issue going forward?  Do we need to rethink the Misson partnership and consider other options or no?

He's got plenty of experience but I reckon a change is needed.

I reckon Burgs would appreciate a different interviewee as well.

Maybe change both!

I wonder whether our lapses are less to do with fitness and more to do with opposition changes to which we are slow to respond. Probably a bit of both. Probably also to do with rotations putting wrong players (lesser and less intense players) in the wrong places.

Hopefully we are weeding out the lesser and less intense players. All it takes is one weak link in a full court press and the opposition can stroll through to get "out the back here". This occurred late in the year, but hardly at all early in the year when we were in good nick.

Don't agree Rusty I think the mid part of the season with the excessive travel and 6 day breaks had an impact.

Another pre season + 20/30 games for our nucleus then you'll see the benefits of a structured plan

I do recall a few years ago a rare poster here (claiming to be involved in elite sport, maybe a swimmer?) also questioning his operations.

I personally don't know enough to comment. But from my dealings he seems incredibly professional - as expected. I also think Rob Jackson who works on strength and condition does a fantastic job. He seems incredibly enthusiastic, well respected, and since his arrival the players look and seem physically stronger.

Put the straws down and no

Interesting thread but it is way beyond my expertise.

As an observer I would like to see us doing some different things when it comes to those dreaded NT games and the following matches.

As to the fade outs they seem to come at different stages of the game so one thinks that it is more likely to be an above the shoulders issue.

I wouldn't be disappointed to see Burgan go either

1. Alice is no different from going to SYD BNE ADL even PER

2. Darwin (which it seems is a semi-permanent fixture) though - a bye following is a MUST for both competing teams

3. A run of successive 6 day breaks cannot be tolerated as fair - 3 at the very most provided there is little or no travel, better to have maximum of two.

You can add Salem to that list. I have said this on a few occasions. I'm sick of hearing each year that we are tired towards the end of the season due to our youth. Sorry not accepting it for the 3rd straight year. They [censored] up the return of our injured players this year big time and it played a strong part in us missing out on a finals place. Our fixture didn't help in the middle but overall it was a good fixture when you look at the start and end so no excuse.

Misson In Action for mine. Time to bring in some fresh ideas and modernise that department. Don't want to hear of bricks concussing our players again this preseason!

What has been his AFL experience?  Swans? Saints? & Dees?

We could always go for the return of Bohdan

We need a fresh set of eyes in our fitness department I've been saying it since the start of 2016, Mission has had his time way out of his depth our team is nowhere near fit enough hence all of our fade outs all the soft tissue injuries cant cop this any longer time for results noe no more BS.
