The way Jack plays doesn't reflect the way Goodwin wants us to play. Tough, fierce, relentless and uncompromising. That laconical body language along with the lack of 2nd & 3rd efforts fails to ignite any  inspiration to his teammates & supporters. For a guy with as much talent as what he's got, he just does not impact anywhere near as much as he should. If we get any interest in him.. we get what we can for him & move on.

On that basis, Jessie Hogan should be traded as well.

Not Gaff Watts is a better player by a mile

I'm a supporter of Watts and like what he brings but Watts is not a better footballer than Gaff

He wouldn't crumble under the pressure of having to kick the goal from 45 metres on a 45 degree angle - he'd put it straight through the centre, mid-post high.  More than I can say for ANYONE else on our list.  Just take a look at the R23 game - Watts kicks the goal from 50+ on an angle - Garlett, Gawn and Tyson all miss sitters with less than half the degree of difficulty.

There's different types of pressure and players respond to them differently.  Watts responds very well to pressure when kicking the ball both in play and from set shots.

Who would you want kicking for goal to win the GF after the siren?  For me it would be Watts every time.

There are some Facebook rumours that jack himself might want out...

obviously it's Facebook so not really worth putting much stock in but pretty interesting really

IMO a definately NO! He was in very good form pre his injury. He struggled on return which has been known to happen to a lot of good players.

Jack absolutely bleeds Red and Blue.
I know a lot of people have differing opinions on Jack as a player, but he loves this club more than any of you realise. There's no way he'd voluntarily change clubs, and since he is still contracted he isn't going anywhere.

I lean towards the no side of things here, but I noticed on The DeeBrief facebook page there are rumours he is looking at other clubs. If this is the case then I don't think we try to convince him to stay, he's been around the club long enough so he either wants to be here or he doesn't.

When he's up and running (and it should be said until he got injured he was doing a good job in a role not suited to him) he's a critical cog across the HFF in our line up, but should he go I think we can cover him.

I had a look at the 'Deebrief' Page and it said:

Jack Watts.  Rumours circulating about him potentially looking for a change of club.  Discuss.

Going by that and its other discussion threads 'Deebrief' appears to be someone who throws a line out there just to see what comes back.

I suspect it was made up by 'Deebrief' and found its way to other forums and after a while people start to circulate it.

Jack didn't leave when Roos' asked if he wanted to be traded at end of 2015.  Can't see why he would want to now.

Agree with what your saying, Keep him in the forward fifty and watch him improve his game.

He played arguably his best football of his career when he was in and out of the ruck, though. That's a position that demands accountability whereas a forward can go missing easily and the many variables - such as delivery - thrown up as an excuse. Imo playing him simply as a forward allows him to get too comfortable. He needs to be thrown out of his comfort zone every now and then, for his own sake to build confidence, but also for the team's sake because he can be a liability when his defender gets the better of him. Imo leaving him forward exclusively is a mistake we've made time and time again with this bloke. He's somewhat of a downhill skier and needs to be actively pushed into positions of accountability.

Those same negotiaters that got Hibberd for Pick 29?

We can't get everything right, but don't make out as if we get shafted all the time, as it simply isn't true.

Hibberd had leverage in that he could have left the Dons for nout.

Watts just needs to be managed better.

Seems to respond to the good kick up the arse from time to time.  Goody just needs to keep on top of him and not let that complacency slip though.

Foxfooty article on Stringer said there are whispers about Watts leaving. I've ignored this thread until now but just wondering if anyone has a source that it's even been hinted at?

Rumors that Watts wants out are total BS.

At this point every year the media look at high profile players who were dropped late in the season as players that may want out or the coach has lost faith in. They then suggest trade rumors for these players on a statistical basis.  In this case Watts does not want to leave nor does Goodwin want to trade him.  Watts is staying.

Jack carried us at times this year. No way . Dont see threads about Tex walker being traded ? Tex had terrible games this year may as well not have been out there and he had some good games it aint easy folks .

Watts has about the best ball use and kicking skills at the club. I don't see how a club like Melbourne can off load such a player. Many of our players waste the ball so much.

Actually thought some of Jack's best games were when he had to help out in the ruck and ran himself into the ground.

While initially I wanted to protect him and keep him away from the ruck, both he and Pedo played some great games while Max was out and they filled in in the ruck. It gave us more mobility around the ground and a bit more unpredictability.

Maybe that is a good option for Jack, spending some time in the ruck and then becoming another mid who can drift forward and kick a goal or help set one up.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
