I am surprised a tad that as it was quiet before the game that the experienced ones didn't seek to rev it up. Seems folk just......watched ?

It was interesting...in a fashion...and somewhat easier to do on the day having realised 15 mins in it was all over red rover, to watch a few players where possible under focus.

Lewis lifted on the day ( and towards end of season , imho )

But just as he was ramping up...others were getting the nervous nancies.

What the lads ( commentating ) are describing but not saying is...we CHOKED.

The enormity of the occasion only hit home for most at or around the 12 min mark of last qtr. Up til then most were either unaware of the gravity or overcome by it.

Signs of an overall immature team.

Below the response from the club as to why only Jones fronted the Presser ... at least they responded back!

Me thinks the CLUB got this wrong and stank it up big time.

I found this bit interesting

“Inconsistency probably comes with a little bit of youth in the team but maybe that’s the way that these guys are probably living their lives a little bit — they’re good one week and not so good the next,” Lewis said.

Is this a veiled swipe that some of the players aren't really giving their all, all the time and doing everything they can be to get the most out of themselves? Is how I read it.

The club admin staff must've absolutely ropeable at the situation.

1. They are copping an absolute barrage this week from the supporter base through no fault of theirs.

2. They are now going to have to absolutely work their asses off again next year, to pull in similar membership numbers to this year.

I couldn't stand the cliche-a-minute presser of Jones' - I know that's his schtick but it was the last thing I wanted to hear!

And not so thinly veiled either. Hollywood Boulevard stuff.

I would make Lewis Captain for next year.

He knows what is required. Not just the words, he actually knows what is required to do it 3 seasons running

I personally cringe every Time Nate opens his mouth for the Club....yadda yadda yadda.. Yep ...great club player etc etc.. but .

But its like the words are pumped in one orifice to come out the other...and so are tainted accordingly  in the process  .

Yes, that is how I read it.  Lewis said something similar recently; that not all players prepare as well as they should.

Elsewhere Oliver has been complimented on how professional he is in his recovery, diet and his preparation.  So it is no coincidence that the he has been our most consistent player and will probably take out the bluey.

A player can train the house down but if not keeping up with recovery and preparation then they aren't physically or perhaps mentally at the level required to play.

I don't know whose job it is to get recovery and preparation right but someone had better get onto it, quick smart!

Great reflection by Jordan, this part sums it up pretty well:

“I think you have to use it as a learning experience and even thinking back to my days at Hawthorn — we had huge losses and huge lessons along the way before we became a really successful and a high sustained success team,” Lewis said.

“And unfortunately the hardest lessons you learn are the ones that cost you the most — and for us on the weekend it was a finals spot.

“But speaking to the players, they’re hurting — and so they should be.”

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
