Pretty sure Kelly was a demons supporter as a kid. Can this be confirmed by one other person?

I would be surprised if this was the case. Josh’s Dad is Phil Kelly who played on the opposite wing to Keith Greg for North in the late 70’s.

It would be close to impossible to land Kelly and Lever.

In a perfect world I'd love to land Lever, sign Motlop as a free agent and then hit the drafts/trade for some class and run.

Reliable source says that Motlop has spoken to Melbourne, Adelaide and one other unknown Melbourne club. Source thinks Adelaide are preferred.

We need s trade rumours thread again.

Shows how things have turned.

In every year gone past for the past decade, the trade rumour thread is the most exciting thing to read at this time of year.

But not this year. Not yet at least. Our heart is still beating. Almost can't believe it.

And it's about bloody time to Ron.

While I agree with you, don't forget every player has an agent whispering in their ear who gets a percentage. I'm not saying agents are unreasonable but they are, by definition, conflicted in the advice they provide.

Too true.

I like rather than love statistics. But i get really frustrated with how hard it is to get access to decent stats.

The AFL love to compare footy here to sports in the US but our media and our access to decent stats are a complete joke in comparison. It is overwhelming how much publicly available stats there is about the NBA baseball and NFL. And no doubt NHL.

ATM, as i understand it only the clubs and some media outlets get all Champion data stats - because they pay for it. The AFL should buy the stats off Champion data and make it publicly available.

I would love a thread on DL with up to date decent stats, particularly those about the MFC. For example individual player stats that are more detailed than that on AFL.com or free sites like footywire (which is a terrific site).

Do any DL posters have aaccess to champion data stats? if so can they be shared - perhaps not all but at least some more detailed stuff?

A thread a analyzing that sort of data would be really interesting.

Kelly is a gun.

But Kelly won't stop our leaky defence.

Hibberd has a difficult enough time doing that atm.

It won't hurt though if it's not down there as much

The managers get relatively little. 3% I believe. Its mandated from the AFL. That is a $3k a year diff. Hardly earth shattering.

Kelly staying at Giants according to Connors.

If he's made up his mind to stay why the delay in the confirmation? Just sign the bloody papers.

Could he ask for more if he blitzes West Coast, tears Richmond a new one then wins the Norm Smith?

Just wanted to say LOL @ North Melbourne

That is all

In the long run " Loyalty" has a lot going for it, particularly if you are recognized by your club, your supporters and you are well rewarded for your efforts, I just hope that our "Young Guns" remember this when it comes to Re-Signing with the Mighty Dee's.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good on you Josh - If we can't have you, stay where you are....!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone posted a few weeks ago that Kelly was going to re-sign for two years.......then come to us.

i remember that post, and immediately thought the same thing when i saw he was going to re-sign for just the 2 years.

I guess it has to be said then.....................

WELCOME TO THE MFC JOSH KELLY !!!!

(in 2 years)

Its happening right?

And Pendles, Gaff, Prestia and Shuey, just to name a few, were Demon supporters.

It means nothing.

To me it reads as I want to win a flag in the next two years and then return to Melbourne. There's no CBA to wait for now. His currency is at its highest and is unlikely to get any higher than what North are offering.

Sounds believable AF....... if GWS don't win next year I do see some of their players leaving.

There is just so long that you can ignore the money that will be thrown at some of them

GWS are a far better chance then North at least for the next 5 years or maybe even more?

Exactly. So why wouldn't you sign long term with GWS? That tells me he's going to stick it out another two years and then head back to Victoria.

it'll be interesting to see what happens to the three recent signees:
- whitfield: signed til 2020
- kelly: signed til 2019
- hopper: signed til 2019

of all their 'in-demand' players only toby greene is signed on til end of next season, and he won't be a free agent - a year short - but he'll absolutely be in-demand

but 2019 could be a bounty:
- tomlinson: restricted free agent
- shiel: rfa
- buntine: rfa
- haynes: rfa
- coniglio: rfa
- lobb
- himmelberg
- hopper
- kelly

all either rfa's or simply out of contract

Coniglio. Not sure we need him but he's a gun.

Would love to get

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
