Brown had injury and personal family  issues which affected his form.

Dont  remember Lockett or Dunstall Getting any more than 25% of their goals on the run! Far from it.

Will give other forwards a lift  as well as get 45/50 plus I think.

Hope so 58er!

Whenever Brown played against us I'd be so frustrated that he kicked his four or more goals. Always looked after by the umpires. Jag a couple of assy goals from the pocket, etc.

Not sure what to make of him coming to Melbourne. Having a 200cm proven goalkicker is good in theory. I have my concerns though. Never been a natural footballer. He isn't the strongest guy overhead. Doesn't seem to kick goals on the run.  Not known for his defensive efforts.

Was last year's form only fitness related or symptomatic of where the game is at the moment?  I guess we'll wait and see!

Ben Brown has better career contested mark averages than Josh Kennedy, Jeremy Cameron and equal to Jack Darling. He is in the elite group of contested mark takers in the game and has a 67% goal scoring accuracy for shots on target. In the top handful goals per game scored. Cant get better than that in the modern game.

Something said or done to evoke laughter or amusement, especially an amusing story with a punch line.

Your reply is what bigots, xenophobes, homophobes and  sexists say when they're challenged.

Now if you want to read something that evokes laughter and amusement check out "What they’re saying in Lulie Street", the exchanges between "Trigon", "buck_nekkid and BBO are comedy gold!

Wait a minute ..... I might be getting this all "arze about" did you mean the other definition?

I suggest you watch the best of Ben Brown on AFL .com, he takes lots of overhead marks, most of his marks are taken at the highest point, do some research before making statements, about not being strong over head.

DeeTox look at my post re goals on the run and IMO I think Ben is at least as strong as Weid Tommy  Jesse Bailey and  Maxy.

I would say I think May and Lever are slightly stronger marks but it's the overall total taken that's important after alI.

I suspect your misgivings will be erased Both in strength and style of goals.

That's the problem with most people's opinion they don't take the time to research things, they just parrot what others say, Ben takes most of his marks at the highest point, this myth that he needs the ball on his chest is unfounded, I watched all his goals in 2018 video, and there are  heaps of overhead marks

Congrats on looking on AFL.com and seeing all of Ben's 2018 goals. That's your research?

Well, as a well researched bloke that doesn't parrot what others say you'd know that Ben averages 1.6 contested marks a game and 2.2 marks inside 50 a game? Not big numbers for a stay at home full forward? And you'd know that from his nine games last year he didn't take a contested mark in six of them? So which is the true Ben Brown? The one you saw in video highlights  of in 2018 or last season? A similar argument could be used with Tom McDonald who had a great 2018, but we all agree had a shocking year this season. Statistically he was on par with Brown and most Demonlanders wanted him gone.

No where did I say Ben needs the ball on his chest. What I did say was he wasn't particularly strong overhead which is common knowledge among North supporters that watch him every week. What he is good at though is crafting goals through other means.

Maybe the real Ben Brown is the one who kicked 180+ goals between 2017 to 2019 3 seasons of 60 + goals, Tmac only had 1 good year, so your going to judge 1 poor year over 3 great ones, his body of work is more the half a season playing injured, he takes lots marks above his head many times over 100 games, so you think just watching 9 games tells you all about a player, that's lazy and pathetic.l

Not great but a very good player. Number 4, if I remember correctly who  went to East Ringwood in the EDFL as it was in the old days.

Labelling someone as lazy and pathetic because they don't agree with you tells me all I need to know.

Random question, who was the last player to wear no 50 for us? And is there one player of note who’s worn it?

60+ goals a season is about 3 per match. If BB is taking 1.6 contested marks per match that means he's likely getting half his goals from contested marks - not too bad eh?

On the other hand if he's taking 2.2 marks inside 50 per game then then about one of his 3 goals isn't coming from a mark.  Maybe from a free or maybe on the run?

In 2019 (full length games) WC Josh Kennedy's numbers were 1.3 CM and 2.9 I50 M for comparison.

Here you go: http://www.demonwiki.org/Number+50

Whether there are "players of note" is completely subjective, of course, although Neville Jetta did play one game in the #50 in 2017 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Referendum.

Yes, next year the networks are even threatening to cut to an ad break as he starts his runup and then cut back in as he kicks the ball. A ten goal game could add up to as much as an extra 13 minutes of AAMI ads.

For the run up he has been told he is not allowed back past the centre line at the G if he marks the ball inside the 50.

He has asked to be allowed to go as far back as centre half back but this has been nipped in the bud by the coach worried his run up could actually extend all the way back to full back if he is allowed his natural game.

Watching his highlights, I don't think it will matter if we kick it to him well or not.  He seems to track the ball through the air so well, time his launch and clunk the marks from everywhere, so I think that suits us well.

I think he's one of those who "catch it at its highest point"  :)

joke, I hate that phrase !

Marks per game, tackles, contested marks... don’t care. He kicks lots of goals, he will kick lots of goals for us and is potentially pushing us well into the top 8, even top 4. He had a down year but if he gets back to the previous form we move to a genuine contender.

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
