100% this. Brown and Weid as legit key forwards who provide a contest and hit the scoreboard. Jacko as a roaming mobile third tall whose time is split between forward line and ruck. Give him license to roam up the ground as a marking option along the wing and work back inside 50. Would be a great setup and 100% can work with the right players. Wouldn’t work with say a Pruess roaming instead of Jacko.

That's a underestimation of Brown's abilities, you don't kick 60 goals a year if you have to have the ball kicked straight on your  chest, do you think that Norths midfielder are that great of kicks, some forwards just know where to lead to take marks, also he averages 1.6 contested marks a game, which is 0.6 better then Jeremy Cameron. And for marks in 50 we average 9 marks a game, which is 1 more then the AFL average, we where 8 th for scoring, it's a bit of a myth that we are the worst side going into forward 50, there are 2 parts with entrance into forward 50, good kicks and also players q0qcp who know how to get in the right spots to take marks. Brown and weed can work well together, two different types of forwards.

DOUBLE SNAP

I think that changes to 5th after round 5

Port - Dixon, Marshall, Ladhams (ruck)

Bris - Hipwood, McStay (Danihar) McInerney (ruck)

WCE - Kennedy, Darling, Allen (ruck)

Rich - Lynch, Reiwoldt, and played 2 genuine ruckman most year

Stk.  King, Battle/membery, Ryder/marshall(ruck)

I dont know Id reckon 2 talls and a third part ruck could work

I believe many of Browns associates are helping him get to his next destination. On Saturday Barrett had hime going to Melbourne and on SEN this morning the story was his manager ramanauskas was pitching hime to Essendon and Hawthorn. Rama probably feeling guilty for not accepting the offer made at the start of the year.

My son is a Kangas supporter (thanks to my Dad) and he reckons Brown is cooked. He had no pre season this year due to ongoing knee issues. It came as no surprise to my son that Brown's year was so poor, many players who miss significant parts of the pre season struggle. He came back with no practise form and down on fitness. Then he injuries his knee again mid season and doesn't play again.

The lack of interest is you don't know what you are buying! He wont get $ 750K or a 5 year deal, he would also want a club with a good track record of rehabbing players with injuries. Having said that, Essendon would be the last place I would go. The crook knee also stopped his other asset and that was doing some ruck work to give Goldy the occasional rest.

If we are to seriously consider Ben Brown we need to stipulate I'm the contract that he changes his ridiculous hair. I don't care how many goals he kicks if so have to see him walk 80 metres when lining up for goal with all eyes on him with his hair bobbing around.

How did a post from the 1970's get into this topic?  Is this a quirk of the new Demonland interface?

Yeah... god forbid that our players display any form of individuality!!  I'm also with you in petitioning the club, insisting that Gawn shave off that embarrassing beard.

I think we’re a lot more attractive than Essendon in terms of potential to play finals.

Issue will be coin and length of contract. With players leaving they’ll have more capacity to meet his demands and if they get desperate, which l think they will, they can offer him an extra year.

Hopefully he makes his choice based on footy reasons.

Brown and Weideman at ground level is a real problem IMV. You can't have two guys that barely tackle inside 50 with two mid sized players that have barely tackled for two years in Fritsch and Melksham.

Bloody strange, get ready Tassie the way North is going you could have an AFL team down there very soon.

What is with you damn Victorians and wanting to dump your basketcases in to Tassie? You can keep North, thanks.

To the topic at hand, surely the arguments of trying to balance Weideman/Brown or neither of them tackling much are just looking for problems where there are none. Brown falling on our lap would be an absolute KotD (for those that remember). I’m sure we’ll manage to find solutions to whatever “problems” fall out of landing an 60 goal a year forward in his prime.

Melbourne has been a huge net for forwards with injuries coming across and flopping or getting more injured. Templeton, Carman, Vardy, M. Clark, S.Clark, Rod Owen - I could go on. That wonky knee spells trouble to me. And, if he was SO good, why would a wooden spooner want to extradite him????

You have to know Nasher that this is the only way Tassie is getting a side.  You are the fall back state when either North/GWS/Gold Coast are moved there.

If we can get McDonald off the books then I'm all for it. Not sure where Jackson fits into that forward line but with his mobility and skill I'm sure they'll find a spot for him. What's the latest talk on trade price? Not keen on giving up a future first at all but would happily give a second for him.

Maybe the guarantee of being able to visit his home town of Hobart in round 23 every year will be enough to get him over the line.

It is a serious problem though. We've never been able to play 2 rucks and even in a number of games gone in with just 1 key forward because the coaches have been so keep to get defensive pressure on. No other team plays 2 big non tackling forwards with any success, why would we be any different? There's a good chance the solution would see one of them dropped to the 2's.

The other question is whether Brown is in his prime any more. It's hard to be entirely confident one way or another. He's been close to 3 goals a game in his career at Docklands, but average 2 a game at the MCG.

Brown in 2018 was excellent. So was Tmac... whose highlights from that year were equally impressive and we can barely give him away now.  You don’t get rid of a big gun forward for a second rounder unless something serious has happened to his body. We absolutely need due diligence here. Would way rather an elite outside mid.

What exactly was Brown's issue this year

Gets way too many cheap free kicks and has this habit of leading up to the ball. No thanks.

Also, this technique of taking a long run-up and kicking through the ball on a set-shot - wtf?

I don't care if every player kicking for goal does a Nadal before serving, just want someone anyone to kick the ball between the Big sticks. He's a goal kicker.

The last three Coleman medallists vs. Ben Brown at the MCG. The lack of sample size for Brown at the venue is crazy. This is via https://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/B/Ben_Brown.html

Jack Riewoldt: MCG average: 2.22 goals. 158 games/ 235 goals – 66 behinds (insane accuracy).
Ben Brown: MCG average: 2.1 goals. 10 games/ 21 goals – 13 behinds.
Tom Hawkins: MCG average 1.72 goals. 76 games/ 133 goals – 91 behinds.
Josh Kennedy: MCG average 1.58 goals. 36 games /57 goals – 37 behinds.

The question is invalid and also doesn't stack up.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
