No word about how Trenners went. Only the 15 disposals and not many tackles. How did people see his game?

pretty solid without setting the world on fire. Didnt look out of place and genuinely added to the pie..Pass

The Darwin game was a factor. We normally finish games strongly. A n7mber of our wins this year have been big finishes after we let them jump us early. Today we faded badly. It was a good thing that we torched them in the first half.

Speaking of that first half, I was furious with the umpire assist on two of their three goals. We could have hadva 50+ point lead at half time had they not interfered. Disgraceful.

Still, overall i'm pretty damn happy about this.

OD you are usually quite logical, but it seems to have deserted you on this issue.  Yes sure we lost in the past because we were crap.  Doesn't prove there is no Darwin effect. For a start maybe we'd have lost by less without the Darwin factor.  I just don't think there is enough data to be able to make strong conclusions about the effect or lack of it at thi stage.

Also, some people are effected entirely differently by the heat & humidity.  Put me in it and I'm a wreck for days without losing 4 kilos in an afternoon. Put my daughter into it and she thrives.  I have to suspect the milkman....  (for those old enough to know what I mean.)

Sue every since we started going to Darwin people have been using our losses the following week to justify their position of not want to sell home games.

The major reason we lost was we were not good enough. We are now good enough and today we won.

Surprisingly i always felt calm. We always seem to get that goal we needed.  It was our great start that helped us big time.

This team has belief. Important win. Best part no injuries assuming max is fine and no stupid suspensions.

Rapt for trenners. He must be happy to sing the song again.

Also i know it's been noted in previous posts but I like how Goodwin comes out and gets around the boys after wins.

You're better than me. I see 17 points up and picture a 1 point loss. Damaged.

But our effort all year hasn't changed, regardless of playing personnel available.

I thought Port may make it tight, but I had faith that the boys would not lower their effort levels.

It's really nice to finally have that confidence.

But if I may indulge myself, I'm not sure I have ever seen a more insipid milestone game than the one from Jack Watts today.

1 arm marks, 1 arm tackles. Simply pathetic, and I hope he is embarrassed by his effort.

You are serious too, aren't you? God help us!

Thats the way I viewed him also.

No clangers, but when he had the ball, he was quite good.

Thanks. Bit worried that, if Jonesy is back next week, he will make way. Hopefully Goody sticks with him for a couple weeks and he can show himself as heir apparent to Lewis with his skills and composure

Dear me ...

Why do they keep doing that to us?

From a 44 point lead to almost a heart stopper ...

We were never going to lose that.

I only saw the second half but yes it was a poor game from Jack who's returning from injury. He didn't make contests and failed to have an impact.

But wow pretty keyboard warrior stuff there, I'd say Jack would be the harshest critic of anyone so he'll review it and be setting himself for a big one next week.

As for worse milestone games, The Ox in his 150 was disgracefully bad (along with the rest of the team), that following week was the infamous pie face from Newman.

Not everyone can have a good day out on a milestone. Who cares, we won.

Ah, keyboard warrior defence.

It's usually spaghetti armed dweebs who throw around claims like that.

Thought you were better than that.

Quite measured on the Port Big Footy side

It seems that they are very aware of their own inner demons !!

"Ken shoulda told them pre game the Dees were actually 9th.
Woulda won 10 goals."

Hibberd is recruit of the year. 36 touches, rarely wasted, and that [censored] tackle at the end of the third. We are not worthy.

Neville 'brick wall' Jetta not far behind. Put that in your pipe and smoke it Dixon you giant ugly turd.

Couldn't happen to a worse bunch of Commentators or Umpires. Huddo, Kingo... verging on 6th grade stupidity.

People are way too harsh on Trengove. He played the team game, defended superbly, gave us a little drive, and was calm and collected with the ball. It was a Jetta-esque game. I reckon he can find a place in the squad as a small wingman and loose defender. Not sure he keeps his spot when Jones comes back but he needs a string of 3-4 games to cement himself.

If you two geriatrics settled down for a second, you might just put the silly argument aside and bask in the glory of being equal 4th and on our way to our first finals appearance in a decade.

Disagree. Our intensity and defensive accountability was top notch from the start. Generally when we fall off we start defending poorly. Never happened. Port got a little bit of a run on bit hardly worth worrying about. We had a great first half score wise and then kept up the intensity throughout.  It was very tough conditions and we always seemed to have run and drive

Very happy with the win, but i will never agree with selling Home Games to play in the Tropics

Right now it doesn't really matter SWYL

We made a packet, and backed up the following week. Kind of makes it obvious that we kept losing after Darwin games because we had a sub par team.

Still think it as brilliant list management to hold back players who may have been ready, in order to freshen us up after a Darwin trip.

Our football dept is so underrated.

Definitely. He's a smart footballer, never panics, and has a real go. He's as reliable with the short kick as Jetta is, I'm never worried when he has the ball. He's a top draft pick that is highly respected by the football community for a reason. I thought he was done purely on the back of us having so many blokes that play his role but now that he's got the run he'll be better for it. The club would be crazy not to retain him purely on the back of his football IQ, which is high and valuable. There's a reason Richmond was willing to part with pick 12 for him. He's an asset for depth purposes.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
