I've thought this for a while, but the hype on Mills is misplaced.  I wondered if Sydney supporters thought the same so went on to their "Autopsy" thread.

This from one of their moderators, "Mills is honestly an average footballer.  What the **** does everyone see?"  He has 10 likes from fellow Swans supporters as I type.

He looks nice, has courage, but goes under the radar as a very vanilla footballer.

But he's still young and may well elevate his game to the A-grade status he has seemed destined for.

Thought he was very good last year but having the 2nd year blues...had a bad one last night, fumbled and seemed to lack confidence.

The one thing that surprises me is they don't give him a run through the midfield.

Longmire is not a very adventurous coach and seems to keep the status quo.

given swans are 3 and 7 i'd expect the supporters are being super critical of most of their players and riightly pizzed off. not surprising, so i wouldn't build too strong a case on a lot of demented swanny hysterical emotions

Im not.  I'm building it on my eyes.

A novel approach, I know.

I agree with the comments about the commentary. Abysmal.

Sewell was sent to find out what happened to Reid. His report was greeted with such congratulations from his colleagues that I fully expect him to be nominated for a Walkley award.

Ling and Carey provide no insights.

Taylor is just a big fat turd.

McAveney's demented growls of excitement at Hawthorn goals were excruciating.

This and posts by @titan_uranus and @rjay highlight what a fantastic commentator Daisy is.  She knows football and does a lot of research.  For example on Friday night she said Geelong had never lost a match when they led at 3/4 time since 20xx (I think it was 2013, not sure).  Bruce etal were genuinely taken aback by her knowledge.

She is a clever interviewer, not in a smart alec way but in a way that gets an interesting response.  So much better than the banal stuff many of her colleagues dish up.

she certainly speaks more sense than most of them, and she's had much less opportunity. expect bigger things in the media for her in the future

My observations on Mills have nothing to do with Melbourne.  The link isn't even tenuous.

As for Mills ?  We bid on him, so I've been interested in him since he was drafted.  The hype was very strong on this guy.  While he's a neat player and nowhere near the finished product I don't see the superstar in the making that we were told was almost a fait accompli.  Seemingly, many Sydney supporters agree,

As for the "he's young, young players make mistake, don't judge young developing players too quickly, blah, etc, blah", yes, these types of comments appear millions of times daily around the world.  It's easy to have this as your default position.  Millions do it.  And obviously there's often some truth to it.  But right now I don't see the traits in Mills that scream he'll ever be a multiple AA superstar.

Well I guess this the main point of difference for us. I have never considered that he would be this player and perhaps I never subscribed to the hype you are referring to. Very few players fall into this category.

The main issue with Mills may be similar to my issue with Salem. What is his position at AFL level, we haven't seen him in the midfield yet so maybe he will excel in that regard. Running half backs are all the rage at the moment and he is more in the general mould.

Sneaky feeling the Saints will get over the Bulldogs today. Bulldogs have too much of an unsettled line up.

Disclaimer - able to change opinion at the 20 min mark of the last.

Dees are back in the 8..... but will be replaced by either the Tigers or Bombers in a couple of hours.

Wish they could both lose!

But if one has to win let it be Richmond.

Can't bear it if Ess go into the 8 partly because it would be a reward for their cheating over recent years and partly because I can't bear their smug supporters and arrogant club.

That Freo loss was a bad one

Just looking at their fixture

7 out of their first 10 games have been at Domain Stadium

If not already I think one can say they will miss the 8 along with Brisbane and Carlton

the math looks hard for Collingwood (almost impossible if we beat them on QB)... Swans and hawks hanging on by their finger nails

That leaves 12 teams seriously vying for the eight

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    GAMEDAY: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
