With Frost, Lever, O. McDonald, Keilty, J. Smith and even Petty, do we need May?

No, we don't.  I'd be stunned if we had any interest at all, especially after we just acquired Lever, re-signed Oscar and have Frost playing terrific footy.  We don't need him at all.

The rumour came from someone employed at the Gold Coast, who wouldn’t know exactly what Melb would get in exchange for Hogan

That explains it.  Rumour is 12 months old. Just takes that long to reach the gold coast

If Jesse wanted to go to Perth ( he doesnt ) and we could get Cerra and Brayshaw in return with a late pick going their way , we would take it .

Hogan is grossly underated imo.

Key position forwards who have a tank & can play CHB & in the guts are rare. U don't trade that kind of talent unless they r homesick & want 2b on a plane every 2nd week.

May may not be such a bad get after all...

Yep today shows exactly why we need May.

Don’t shoot the messenger, but rumour I heard was Hogan to Freo for pick 6, pick 6 to GC for May.

Pick 6, your kidding. Not enough to do a deal.  Even if Hoges wanted out.

2 picks or Freo can zip off.

Anyway who says Hogan would go to Freo, or West Aus', for that matter ?

Maybe he would be tempted to go to help up on the Gold Coa$t  ???   I hear they need replacements, to ante-up ?   And are cashed-up.

Maybe Jesse wants to play midfield with us, or wing/half-back ?

May doesn't help us not turning it over in the middle of the ground

No but he'd help us get it back.

The Eagles were pumping it inside 50 at times because not only do our key defenders get beaten, they just don't take marks, nor do they regularly sink the fist through the ball and clear the contest. So even if you win it back you're under pressure and not in control of the ball.

Oscar wasn't entirely terrible today but missed a bunch of marks and had plenty of chances to really thump the ball through. Frost had a bad Frost game.

Lever will help the marking and rebound but is best used as a third option, especially coming off a knee. Maybe Frost and Oscar can improve again, and they showed against the Cats and Hawks they can do the job with midfield support, but it's hard to win a flag without 1 gun key defender.

One POV is that if quality nominates you, it's an advantageous occurrence, that is not guaranteed to happen all the time. So you shift the magnets and make a trade happen, even if you don't think it's a critical need. It's still an upgrade for locking down a fwd imo. Trade Frost if need be. HBF/Hunt provides dash, its not an important KPD assett, it's icing.

Anyones else we chasing besides May and Pruess?

The thing with the GC is they wont be wanting a pick for May... They need players to help stabilize their team (Eg Bernie for us 5 years ago) This I think will work in our favor as we have no picks to use... I'm sure the FD well determine who is indispensable IF we really wanted to get the deal done.

I can see that we could improve our KPD stocks, despite Frost's good year I'm not a believer.

I'm not a believer in 3 tall forwards either.

I'd much prefer to go with Weed back or even Hogan.  They would be better than May IMO and we already have them.

May is excess IMO

Unless Frost is traded as part of a package. It would be fair to say his stocks are on the rise at the moment, having had a good last month.

Omac at FB, May at CHB, Lever intercept 3rd tall(ish)

I too would like to see Hogan tried in the backline, which may disrupt the above.

May is an upgrade from Frost.

Interesting, you mention Bernie.  I hadn't considered him.  But he could go around for one more, to help the 'Suns' sort through what a healthy culture looks like.

They do need maturity and leadership, to straighten up many with wayward ideas.

May is gone imv.  And the 'Suns' should want him out...

They would NOT want any senior player who is not 100% committed to the footy club, to shape its future with positivity.

Wouldn't be surprised if we are talking to him with the view of getting him at the end of next year (if needed then), through free agency. I can't see GC taking draft picks this year, they could wait until next year and get a near guaranteed top 2 or 3 pick for him like Lynch this year.

If they traded now GC would want proven players but I don't know who'd we put up they'd actually be interested in (talking about players we'd happily give up).

Do we believe the guy in the Harrison Petty thread, who claims that he know Steven May and he is off to Collingwood.

We were talking to May before he signed his last GC contract.

There will be casualties at Melb to get the required players in. No doubt about it!

I believe the Dees will be aggressive...

Streuss would likely player the other tall anyway, leaving Gawn to drop back into defense.

Or Gawn forward when resting and Hogan to defense. Played there as a junior I believe

I'm not a fan of 2 rucks, especially when we have solid and capable relief in Weed and TMac.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
