Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This is no different than any caller on any of the radio stations bagging out players. FFS compared to Watts JKH has nothing to complain about.

Yes, Ox read it out. SEN would have have told him to.

Others at other clubs cop it worse than this.

Bronze membership?

Please son, you've been around since breakfast.

The writer of the letter is actually a 40+ year MFC/MCC member. The so called bronze membership that you're harping on about is because he didn't buy a membership a year or two ago. If you read the side note addressed to Schwarz, he mentions that the bronze membership card is an "insult". I agree with him on that.

Only sensible I guess to look at the ladder leaders as the current benchmark.  I'd argue that a consistent 4 quarter effort is much harder to achieve than what we might be demanding.  As to why, I'm not sure.  That being said, regarding Adelaide:

Round 1 - down by 14 at quarter time (won by 56)
Round 2 - down by 24 at quarter time (won by 24)
Round 3 - down by 9 at quarter time (won by 17)
Round 4 - clicked for 4 quarters and smashed Essendon
Round 5 - similar to above and smashed Gold Coast
Round 6 - down by 9 at quarter time (won by 76)
Round 7 - down by 64 at quarter time (lost by 59)

All fair points, But Clubs know they can jump us early. Research like this is down to the last drop.

Why have we always started slowly, even with Gawn in the side

Is it Jones not being a strong enough leader? It has to be something easily identifiable, because it seems to be a "Team" thing

When they switch on, it is the whole Team responding together.

35 years, mate.  What does that have to do with it though?  You going to pull the 'I've supported longer and through the 70s so I can wallow in more misery than you' card or something?

The bloke bought a membership and is entitled to an opinion  I don't agree with much of his view, or his somewhat embarrassing meltdown, but it's his right to have a voice in a free society.

Naturally, it's your right to be outraged if you so desire.

I find the outrage almost as funny as his meltdown.

It's just not a big deal.

You can choose to put your head in the sand if you wish or put me on ignore, i am not going to lose sleep either way.

But there are recurring themes that keep coming back. Melbourne sides in my 46 years have always had trouble with intensity, keeping it going for any sustained period of time, even under J Northey we dropped crucial games to lose a double chance in finals campaigns.

I don't consider it wallowing in misery to be just a little concerned at the moment when the side has talent but is not mentally switched on at the first bounce.

Whorethorn are not what they were, but we let them take control for to long, with sloppy kicking and stationary handballs. It never works.

Goodwin has been inside the club for 3 years, it's not as if he has walked in cold. I expected the intensity to be flat out, not just a quarter here and there, at least Viney is showing it now. Good on him

People on here are saying that 2017 is now a development year, and you call me out for being negative!

what a joke  i want some September action and we can still do it if the players revise their attitude

Kennedy-Harris wasn't singled out, although he copped the worst.

He also had a go at Hannan, Viney, Jones, Tyson, and Tom McDonald.

Fair enough - as I said I didn't read it because it seemed like a waste of time, but I should have before remarking.

I still think it's pathetic - there are better ways to let off steam. What does it prove. The FD and players won't and nor should they care what any of us think. But each to their own.

And if he's happy to name and shame he shouldn't have any problems with others calling him out publically.

You just have to wonder how much the MFC has affected him for him to write that letter.

Following/supporting a footy club shouldn't be this hard.

The same old tired excuses from the same posters. Read anything from circa 2010/11 and they said exactly the same things then. And if we don't find a way to success they will still say the same things in 2027. They might change when dementia starts setting in.

Exactly. Better to identify a major problem than just accept it.

I am sure Goodwin is aware of the mental attitude, but my alarm bells first kicked in last year at Round 22 when we were a good sniff to make finals, if we were tough enough.

Nope. They had switched off. It was too hard

and we are still seeing it happen.

When they do switch on they can they can beat anyone.

I will be watching Jones very carefully next weekend, he has to step up and lead or give the job to someone who can do it

This sort of frustration and disappointment is going to happen until the day comes where we come of age and start to put a good block of wins together, it's all part and parcel of the journey, and especially for us because it's been a long time coming, but it will come.

Any credibility you had left the building with your constant bagging of Hogan at the end of last year, and once he re-signed you disappeared without a trace.  Funny that.

This actually made me laugh out loud.  Well done to you, good sir, for identifying the major problem.  So what do you plan to do about it?  Go to training and tell them?  Or just sit at home and bleat about it all the time?

Seriously, most supporters get it.  We've got areas to work on, no doubt about it, but you take it to new levels my friend.  You 'identify' the problems as if you're some visionary.... and then just waffle on about it again and again and again.  What does that solve?  Not much I'd imagine.

Well he signed and no point carrying on all off season. I stand by what I said then.  Now that he is here for a couple more years I hope he succeeds and becomes the key player we need. Now stop changing the subject.

You'd already carried on enough.  There was no digging yourself out of the hole you made so you disappeared.  And I'm not changing the subject as you're the one who jumped in from the side to join a conversation, yet you added nothing to it.  Some things never change.

I keep bringing it up because it happens every week.

And it only happens at this club

beveridge nailed it the moment he walked in.

I have never said "i know it all" but it is easy to see what happens.

I will put it simply for all those supporters who dream of success.  The Melbourne Football Club onfield cannot be trusted, it cannot be trusted to get the job done when it is capable of doing so.  This is this clubs biggest challenge for its supporters and the wider football community.  Until the team realise this they will not be trusted.  I have supported the club for over 40 years, I do not trust this club to do what is must.  I want to trust them but I can't.  When I turn up to the MCG to watch the demons I have no idea if they will win or not.  That is a trust issue.

While I sympathise with all long suffering Dees supporters (I myself am one, but tip my hat to those who have been suffering a lot longer than I have), I would encourage them to look at the club in its present state.  While it might feel like we're in the midst of the 8th version of a rebuild, looking at the club right not it's hard to argue we're not on the right track.

Competitive - yes
Playing exciting football - yes (well for 50-75% of a game)
Retaining our key players - yes
Attracting quality players - yes
Increased membership - yes

Try and draw a line in the sand pre & post Roos/PJ era.  It's hard to do I know, but you can't overlook the significant strides we've taken over the last 3.5 years as a club, and only dare to dream what the next 3.5 years might hold.

Mate, thank you.

I have been stewing on last weekends loss for the last few days, trying as hard as I can to not post while angry. I considered it unforgivable.

I guess I would see the same things if I didn't feel homicidal after a loss like that. We are going to be a strong finals team, it might just need to wait another year.

Agree 100%.

I think SEN and the Ox need take responsibility as he read it out on air and SEN released it and it is now posted all over the internet..  They should have removed JKH's name.  They would still have the headline without the name.  I am appalled that the Ox doesn't get the impact on a young man.

While I'm at it, I'm sick of our ex champions potting our team and our players in the search of headlines.  Garry did it yesterday and now the Ox.  Sure they have a job to do but they don't have to sink the boots in the way they do.  I don't hear other club's ex players in the media bag their club in the same way ours do.

Criticise all you like Garry and Ox but be aware at how damaging your delivery is to our club and to the morale of supporters. The media just love getting stuck into us and as our ex champions they implicitly give other media 'permission' to sink the boots in as well.

Agree.  Astounding.  Schwarz.  [censored]. Head

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
