Just throwing it out but I see that Kreuzer is a free agent at the end of this year.

Lots of things to consider but it got my thought process working.

Easy to see the problems:

  • salary cap
  • where does he play
  • length of contract term
  • injury

On the other hand it could be that X factor we need and given the right contract term it might sit well with our up and comers who will quite rightly demand higher compensation in years to come.

28 years old in May 2017 so at least 3-4 years.

Given Carlton's position they should be able to offer a big salary but who knows

When fit and up and about he's a terrific ruckman.

But he's often limited with his fitness and he can't play anywhere but in the ruck.

Someone will inevitably offer him a fair whack of cash but I don't think it'll be us.

Interested in developing this as it is probably the key.

Kreuzer averages 2 goals per game in his limited career.

If he could play a Pederson or dare I say it a Nick Riewoldt role it could be what what we need to go that next step.

Would be a waste of money, to say the least. Definitely don't need another pure ruckman as others have suggested.

I'm more interested in Dusty. I mean, I can't imagine him at the dees for a number of reasons. But he's exactly the type of mid that'd compliment our group.

I think Kruz will be offered stupid money to play elsewhere or stay. I doubt we'll be in the mix.

On Dusty, while he'd be great i think he'd cost too much overall. I know he's a free agent, but for us to afford him we'd eventually have to loose one or two of the good young players (Oliver, Trac, etc.) and I've heard our main list management strategy at the moment is to get all our young guys signed up and on board longer term together rather than chase a bigger fish.

Where are you getting this from?

Looking at his profile he's played 143 games for 75 goals so more 0.5 goals per game.

Stating the obvious a bit there. What group wouldn't the strongest midfielder in the competition compliment?

Kruezer has been a cruiser for most of his career.

Give us another experienced A grade mid and I'd kiss Mahoney, Taylor and Todd on the lips, maybe with a bit of tongue thrown in for free.

If you're of the opinion we need a ruck/forward type... then yes... He's ideal. If you're not of that opnion, it's a no.

I think when all's said and done he would be a massive amount of salary cap space, so meh. I think we'll more than likely look at a Peter Wright type with one of our earlier picks in coming drafts. I don't see Watts as a full time KP forward in the way Weed and Hogan are... so a Wright type would be ideal.

Personal opinion. Kreuzer would be good for that. Doubt he'd want to be second fiddle to Gawn int he ruck though.

Just have a look at what happened to Port Adelaide when they got Paddy Ryder. Lobbe was a pure ruckman, and Ryder played his best footy at Essendon in the ruck. Lobbe's form dropped dramtically, and Ryder had little impact as a forward/ruckman.

Kreuzer is a skillful footballer, but he's a ruckman/forward not a forward/ruckman.

If we got a forward ruckman, it would be at the expense of Weidemann. If they both played, Hogan would have to play up the ground more, and I think that it would be to the detriment of the team.

He plays his best footy as solo number 1 ruck. We have Gawn, so he would become second ruck/forward. He wouldn't want to play the second fiddle, and we wouldn't want to pay what we'd need to to get him. It's a no from both parties for mine.

Another club who need a number 1 ruck will throw cash at him. We currently have the All Australian ruckman, who is also younger than Kreuzer. There are other areas of our list to focus on instead.

Yes. I guess I'm talking about two important attributes that he possesses to an elite level. Ball use and class.

I think our midfield sorely lack those two ingredients.

Looking at it from the Carlton viewpoint they would need to think about off-loading Kreuzer.

They get a first round draft pick and they free up a good part of their salary cap that they can throw at a top third year player on a long term front loaded contract.

If he cannot play forward then I agree he is not of much use to us.

That being said we have an opportunity in the next 2-3 years to win the big one and we should leave no stone un-turned in doing so

I think Kreuzer is underrated on here; very good ruckman.

Can't see him wanting to come to the MFC as he'd always be second fiddle to Gawn.

They tried to trade him a year ago and got no takers because of the big salary and injury.

Is that fact or just media speculation/rumours? It's inconsistent with their stance on Gibbs.

Who did they have planned to play in the ruck without Kreuzer? Daisy Thomas?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
