Goodwin has from the outset been primarily focused on building a team and game style that will win finals.

Physical, tough and aggressive players would rank highly under this criteria.

Love that Lever is an in-your-face sledger of opponents, who also doesn't shy away from physically following it up.

Wasn't it 12, and we sent that to Geelong for Moloney?

Yep brilliant recruiting

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that every coach ever has or had the same focus.

I have a strong inkling that we have been 'recruiting' Lever for three years ever since his draft. IIRC, the Richmond doctor's assessment of Trengove's foot is the reason we didn't get Lever in the first place...

I'm already waiting in anticipation for our game against the Crows next year. Reckon there might be a bit of niggle between Walker and Lever?

Think so.

It's a smart thing to do, cultivate relationships with players who are drafted by the current successful teams who will not be able to accomodate them in the future due to not trading players like Jenkins who offer something now but nothing in 4 years. A player like Lever would want to play a more prominent role in a team of players who are on a similar development path to him. Not be the icing on the cake of a team full of older established players and take a pay cut to be on the periphery.

For eg: Another player who could have a big year next year but there will not be enough money to go around if Richmond are still at the top, might be Daniel Rioli or Sam Powell Pepper if Port stretch their salary cap too far.

Barrett said in his sliding doors article we had been talking to Lever for 15 months

After his GF performance Walker cant exactly say much ATM. He made marshmellows look tough on the weekend.

Dont be surprised if Channel 7 put this on a Friday night as well given they like to build up these things.

JL is a very accomplished boxer apparently. I reckon the kid will hold his own.

What does pick 10 + 27 equal to in new points system?

And what do those points equate to as a pick?

For eg, does 10 + 27 equal 3000 points which is equivalent to say a pick 7?

Or how does it work?

10 + 27 = 2098 which is equivalent to pick 4 (2034 pts).

But, 2098 is also equivalent to pick 16 plus pick 17 (2092 pts)!

Richmond holds both.  Would Richmond trade them tho?  They could be persuaded if they want young Parick Naish as father/son and think he won't go top 10.  That way they can use pick 10 on a top player and use lesser picks for Naish.  I suspect we won't be the only club with a top 10 pick asking that question of Richmond.

I'm glad you understood what I was asking lol

As the story goes, Roos was a massive Lever fan - and the pick to be received for Trengove was earmarked for Lever.  Lever would have been expecting to be a Melbourne player right up until the Richmond quack scuttled it.  So I'd say we've been recruiting Lever since before he was drafted.

Feels like the circle is somewhat complete with Lever arriving as Trengove goes, in a sad and "it's going to cost us about two more first round picks than it should have" kind of way.

Confirmed Jake Lever coming to Melbourne to become boxing partner for Nate Jones

Anyone see a trend in Goodwin's modus operandi? Guys who can handle themselves physically. Melksham, Johnstone and Lever are very handy boxers. Piggy Hibberd doesn't back away from anyone... Out with the soft c***s and in with the tough bar stewards!

I used to be a 'bar steward '

Reports on AFL site that Lever's been advised not to come to the Crows B&F tonight.

First they low ball him, and now they won't even buy the bloke dinner. Classy.

This is childish by Adelaide if true.

It's ok Jake, I'm sure we can find you a spot at our B&F on Monday night, your most welcome to attend.

Lol Adelaide are the biggest bunch of baby’s in the AFL, I hope the dees invite him to ours that would really make them salty

The Crows claws are out.

I think its one thing to play hared ball with the club but it is another thing to run this pejorative campaign against him.  Pretty low really.

He wasn't going so I guess Adelaide had to explain his absence somehow...best to withdraw the invitation, then.

Will be interesting to see where he finishes in their B&F:) Demoted to 22nd perhaps...

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
