Could be a bit wet and windy on Sunday so not ideal conditions for tall forwards.

If the Blues go in too big we should be able to cut them up on the rebound.

i suppose 0mm could be interpreted as <1mm ?

anyway, as far as melbourne goes when they forecast light rain we usually get none or at least most suburbs get none

if the forecast has any validity it looks like it will be a perfect day for good footy

Im a huge fan of both Kent and Tyson. But on Kent: with ANB, Garlett and Hannan all playing well, who goes out? He wouldnt be replacing either of Smith/Vince I would think. Do they take out the Wied and play really small? That would be a surprise for me but there are very few ways i can see to fit Kent in. Aside from dropping one of the smalls who doesnt deserve to be dropped.

I see your point. I would still rather have that problem though. Much prefer a fit Dean Kent ahead of Tyson or Harmes. Also, I wouldn't be against moving Lewis to the back line for this game - to cover Vince - and give us a calm head down back. That would essentially free up a position in the midfield for one of the forwards. Kent could then take his position up forward. IMO Kent is a great fit in our side no matter what, whereas Tyson and Harmes are behind a few midfielders. Kent kicks goals, and goals win matches. He would be a headache for Carlton up forward.

O'Mac had a few shaky moments early against the Saints but improved as the game unfolded, he isn't a ragdoll anymore and he tries hard. Still liable to turn the ball over on occasion, but he has all the attributes (like his brother) to become a star key defender. People seem to forget we are still very much in a development phase, winning is a great side-effect of good development, Oscar will get there. Trust in the process, key backs take a while to develop (unless you're Weitering).

It is possible with the Vince suspension Goody will throw Lewis back with Tyson coming in as an inside mid. As for a Smith replacement, potentially Wagner or Frost I'd guess, depending on fitness.

All players are continually developing Tickle. Some have more room for development than others

If Hannan gets dropped I will burn Melbourne head quarters to the ground.

You can save your matches for the log fire Bobby. They will not drop a mini version of Fyfe after last week's outstanding debut

Noticed that Petracca, Watts and Vince combined for zero tackles last week.  What does this mean?  Just an anomaly?

Wouldnt want that happening too often.

Depending on their pressure act numbers depends on that matters. If they have enought pressure acts then tackles themselves dont matter so much. But if they are both down then there may be a bit of a consern.

Just asking, didn't Tyson finish 4th in the B & F last year?

Actually, we have to add five names to make it a 25 man squad (and assuming no mystery injuries of the week this week). I would run with:-

Don Tyson, Dean Kent, Cam Petersen, Jake Spencer and James Harmes.

Yep, 7 man interchange. Any of those can be selected but the named 18 are a lock.

Outs: Vince and Smith

Ins: Tyson (starting 18), Kent, Harmes, Spencer, Wagner

Wagner to get the nod as we need defenders

Not much when you dominate possession the way we did! If we lost and that was the case I'd be worried

Appreciate it's early in the season but freshness for the Geelong game (both clubs on 6 day turnarounds) may also be a factor.  Vince will of course come back fresh for that match (as could whoever is the emergency against Carlton).  Anyone who plays with Casey on Saturday will have a seven day turnaround.   I would think they would want Bugg to play a match this week after missing out last week.  Harmes may well end up as the emergency.  And interestingly, if there's any contemplation of the two ruckmen experiment, Sunday's game against Carlton would be the lowest risk nearby window to give it a run.

Are you serious? You really think we are that good that we can afford to be planning for the week after.

As for the ruck experiment, FMD!!! Three games ago we lost to the same team whilst we we pushing for finals, and they'd put the cue in the rack. Jeez some supporters get ahead of themselves.

During Trade period I made exactly the same point we needed to pick up a tall developing back man maybe 3 years into his craft

We didnt and spent 2nd round picksin subsequent years on Melks and Hibberd which we could have used to trade

We had an opportunity and didnt take it

Who exactly did you have in mind?

Agree with everything else you're saying, but three games ago was also 7 months ago and at the end of the season for what was a very young list. I'm loving the straight forward nature of Goody when he says the past is irrelevant, clearly we've had another summer and a new coach. Let's leave both last years games against the Blues and Cats in the past.

They stuck with OMac last year which left egg on the face of many here when the agonising calls for his head fell on deaf ears, and I can't see the Dees hierarchy chopping him here again either.

The more he plays, the better he gets. The more confident he will become.

He'll need to come to terms with the errors he made - he'll brush up on those.

Thanks Binman.  If mo64 paid any attention whatsoever to what was said publicly by the club last year (Josh Mahoney IIRC), he'd understand that there was very specific selection planning around the 6 day breaks and the interstate trips, particularly the Darwin one where humidity was involved.  But perhaps ignorance is the preferred approach.

That means, it will be bone dry ... except possibly in the Bermuda Triangle of weather, ie the Mt Waverley area. If it rains anywhere at all it will rain there.

Gotta love Carlton supporters. This from http://www.talkingcarlton.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=35716

"We could be lke the Dees in 3 years but highly unlikely. The AFL stepped in and helped Melbourne. First they used their secret formula to come up with pick 3 as compo for losing Frawley. They talked Roos into coaching again and then paid his contract for 3 years. They put a CEO in place and helped negotiate compo from the MCC because they had MCC Melbourne members, as all clubs do.
They became a destination club in part due to Roos and now is it paying off.
The AFL do not give a stuff about us and we will not help.
This will be ugly I am afraid."

I'm surprised that you are surprised. Carlton have been blaming everyone else but themselves for almost 20 years. Who can forget John Elliott's infamous comments post the 2000 semifinal that eventually put us into the Gannie. I think his words were something to the effect that "melbourne are a nothing club and for the AFL to allow them to progress deep into the finals will be the death of the competition". They are arrogant, fat - and ultimately supremely unsuccessful. That quote by the way should be replayed to our players before every time we play them. It just illustrates what wankers they are.
