Ruled out for this week. Hopefully he'll get up for round 1.

From the information given in that article it seems as though it's more a precaution than anything serious.  As you say, hopefully he'll be right for Round 1.

Spot on.

Our two back-6 left footers in Hibberd / Wagner are racing against it for Round1 - in particular, Wagner.

You'd think Hibberd should be ok according to what's been reported.

Not long till we find out.

so hibberd, jkh and vdb are definite outs, and you'd think viney might miss out too if his hand injury is any concern at all.

B: Jetta - T McDonald - Smith
HB: Hunt - O McDonald - Melksham
C: Salem - Jones - Vince
HF: Petracca - Hogan - Brayshaw
F: Watts - Weideman - Kent
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Lewis
I/c: Tyson - Stretch - Neal-Bullen - Bugg - Spencer - Harmes

would be nice to see what trengove has to offer, and i can't understand how frost has dropped out of all considerations (or so it would seem)

You can add Sam Frost as well, considering he played the majority of games last year.

We are going in with a pretty strong side, although we are still missing 5-6 of what I would consider our best side.  I'm very interested, and a little nervous, to see how we go on Thursday night.

And is this the final squad, or do two players get left out before the game?

MFC tweet.  Hibberd will also miss due to achilles soreness.  Achilles soreness always worries me.  Hope it is just precautionary.

I had achilles soreness once, Iva.  Think it only took 18 months to get over it.  Got to the stage where I considered playing a game so that it would just snap so that I could go through a proper, "normal" rehab program with it.  One of the most frustrating injuries I have ever had was the old achilles "soreness".

Excellent to see Trenners named!

I hope he has a good hit out.

I'd go with:

FB: Melky  Oscar  Hunt
HB: Vince  Tom Mc  Lewis
C: Stretch  Viney  Bugg
HF: ANB Hogan  Brayshaw
FF: Watts  Weed  Petracca
Foll: Gawn  Oliver  Jones
Int: Tyson  Salem  Harmes  Spencer
Sub (2nd half): Trengove Garland

That's how I'd line up. Time to just play 22 on the field at once so those guys get a good work out.

I count 24 and they still have the extended bench, so it looks like they are all playing.

I'm Interested in who you think are the 5-6 who aren't playing and who they will displace. Surely a few of those will be shuffling of bottom 6 players with fringe 22 players (e.g. ANB, Bugg, Harmes, Trengove, Spencer, Melksham, Garland c.f. VDB, JKH, Jetta, Kent, Pedersen, Frost). Hibberd and probably Garlett would be the only players not named that I would call clearly best 22.

Dean Kent is best 22.  The coaches like AVB so you would say he is thereabouts, while Sam Frost was the third tall for most of last year so I think he gets a game as well... if fit.  Add Hibberd and Garlett to that mix, plus who knows what's up with Jetta, and you have 6 players missing who you could say are best 22 or very close to it.

Who misses from the side we named?  Garland, Trengove, ANB, Harmes, Spencer and Bugg are 6 who would probably miss out for the above players.

For the third time they have named Jack Trengove on the extended list. It would be nice to give him a run this match if only to confirm whether he remains a genuine part of our future (success)!

Looking a bit small down back for me. But its a decent team with a few out going up against a full strength (and pretty tall) Eagles. Should be a good test

I don't think Garland will play round 1 unless there's further injuries so I'd be willing to live with having an eagles tall kick a couple of goals just from being too big and to get the other defenders a good run for the first half and then sub Garland in after the break. I think Jayden Hunt would be a pretty good match up for Darling anyway.

I just realised they named more players than us so they will likely drop some of those talls.

Veteran Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin returned to the training track to bring you the following observations from Gosch's Paddock this morning. Beautiful morning for training. Melky weighted and change of angles work. Salem has his individual program. White cap (no contact), Howes, Woewodin and Sparrow

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
