Fair suck of the old football picket.  He might not have had a great day, but he's a KPP in his second year.  Might need to spend some time at Casey but way, way, way too early to say he isn't AFL standard.

 

It's his first game back as well, give the kid some time.  Close the thread!

Still very young. Playing Brisbane is good exposure. Long term thinking. 

He's tall and relatively mobile and doesn't give up and drop his bundle.

We need new generation coming thru and he's part of it.

He's not ready. Simple as that. I think he'll be decent long term, but right now he should be in the VFL. He fumbles under no pressure, gets out bodies by guys 10cms shorter and lighter than him and just lacks intensity. Dunn should play ahead of him every day of the week.

Send him back to the VFL to gain confidence and skill and build his body up. We are finally in a position where we don't need to play kids like him until they are ready.

Promising type. I am somewhat more buoyant about his game than the OP. I thought McDonald was reasonably good in close, and actually saw a slight improvement in his game today. He will be a good KP down the track. I would be sticking with him ahead of Dunn. Wagner certainly looks a find for us as well.

Its called developing our young tall defenders. He had another taste of AFL level footy today and learnt a lot. I'm sure the coaching staff will make the most of his game today.

Remember Chip Frawley getting tore to shreds by Corey Jones from North in one of his early games.

Was playing on Schache who had a whopping 2 kicks all day.

Developing kpd- Cut him some slack.

Oscar, whilst I think has some ability can only use today as experience.  Needs to go back and refine hisgame using what he learnt today as a guideline. He's someways off though. Just being realistic. Thought he might have had a better day given the opposition.

I thought he was ok, last quarter was good. It all takes time. Happy to be patient with Oscar, he has one key ingredient in that he is a competitor like his brother.

He needs time in the VFL to develop properly then once he has earned his spot he can come back in.

How does he go in the VFL though? If he's demonstrating skill and confidence at the lower level, then you could mount an argument that it's just settling time in the seniors he needs.

He will be fine with time.   Sam Frost should come in as our ready made key back if hes doing well there with Casey.

No doubt we are straddling the line of blooding youngsters and gifting them games. He has been solid at Casey by all reports, so not completely out of the blue. Personally, I would still prefer Dunn.

Talk about going over the top, give the kid a chance. Not every player is AFL ready game 1. Some ned time to develop... and before u go off half cocked we lack depth in defence atm hes playing a role 

To his credit the kid did show some fight late with a good spoil and then fought it out on the ground two on one until help arrived and we cleared it.

He is not terrible, certainly no worse than Garland.

Now that I look at it, I think he was outstanding.

We can't afford to carry players if we're contending for finals. In a close game he would cost us the match. I've never seen a player fumble more in 25 years.

I think he has good attributes and will be solid long term, but he's not ready yet and we can't carry players anymore. Dunn or Frost takes his spot as they're both ready to go. He got outmarked by Keays 2-3 times when one on one. He is 11cms taller and 13kgs heavier yet got out-bodied. If Dunn is there, that won't happen. Simple as that.

The selection of him in the team is the worst part, having said that he is playing at Tom Gilles levels at the moment because he isn't ready.

Give him the year at Casey.

He's a kid. That simple.

Big blokes tend to take longer as well. Jesse is the exception (not the rule) and even with a lot of those man child types, the ceiling can be hit very, very early.

I would say if he hasn't bulked up a bit and become a regular first 22 selection in a couple of years, the conversation we are having now will be more valid. 

As for now, it's premature so give O-Mac a break.
