WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MITCHELL HANNAN

Featured Replies

I've been spruiking Hannan from the glimpses I've seen of him in training and for the Dogs and I thought he was the right risk to pick over an underdone Tyson/Kent or Harmes at half forward. That said, I never could imagine he was going to play that kind of debut game.

Crumbing goals, lead up marks, really good inside 50 kicks, tackles. It was the full deal.

One or two ground ball fumbles and a couple of occasions where he and team mates weren't on the same page was all that stopped it being perfect.

You want to see new players be up to the speed of the game. Hannan was in front of it.

His debut will make it harder on Dean Kent/Jkh/Harmes/Bugg to come into the side. I honestly didn't see that coming after round 1!

He was fantastic!!

Has a serious touch of someone who feeds on the occasion and the step up in pace/skills/physical demands. One of those who will play better at the highest standard. Kudos to Goodwin for having the moxie to trust that might be the case.

Will not lose his spot unless injured.

He will have a few seriously good games this year where he will cut opponents up.

I reckon you're right, SJ.  As we knew before the game, he is very good above his head, but both of his goals last night were the result of being in the right place at the bottom of a pack.  It's another string to his bow that he can use to good effect and he'll be hard to match up on.

I suspect he may be rested from time to time as he picks up the overall pace and demands of his first season at AFL level, but guys like Kent won't get getting an easy ride in the side from now on.  We've got serious depth now and it can only make us better.

I don't like to crap on about drafting this or that player... But this guy can play.

Love it.

Great judge

Hes on track for around 30 goals, what a great debut season hes having.

Still can't quite figure him out as a player... Just seems to be in the right place at the right time.

He's an exciting prospect starting to string a few games together.

Plays tall, sure/quick hands, works hard to get to position, can rotate thru the mid-field, hard to match up and how many times has he been there in the goal square!

He is coming along pretty well.

Goal Sneak. Had a flat spot a few weeks ago but looks like he learns from experience

So quick from hand to kick at times and often goals in that situation - like him more each week

Great game v Suns by Mitch. Reminds me of Peter Vardy. Great opportunist forward or half fwd link player.

He was underrated as a player. Came in after we lost the wizard and was very handy when he wasn't hurt.

If he can be a modern day vardy equivalent then we have done well!

I think I like him.

But why is his ball drop like a first day auskicker?

Nor can the oppositions it seems.

Seems to read the play very well, and can leap and grab and can kick.

Good pick up by our recruiting team, again.

His best attribute by far is the pace that he hits the contest at, he is incredibly strong through the legs and hips and charges into opposition bodies to apply pressure. This allows for the ball to be won by team mates at ground level or even himself and I would suggest a major contributing factor to locking the ball in and creating multiple opportunities in our forward half

Where's A-F the negative guru. Looking forward to hearing his breakdown of the game.

Eh? What have I done now?

Strange, I always thought you were the other way around, for example your ratings of Salem and Tyson ;)

I have been critical of Hannan before and I still wish he could kick and handball better but you can't have it all. Has a good, quick snap on goal, some speed and ability in the air. He keeps finding a way to get amongst the goals, so credit to him.

He started a little slow but has now adjusted to afl pace
