Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

At the start of the original National Lampoon's Vacation, the car salesman pitches a lemon of a car to Chevy Chase with the double edged line 'if you hate it now, wait till you drive it'

Perhaps a variation. 'If you think you're fat now, wait till you do my 16 week course' would do the trick.

'He spent the off-season working through a tailored program with personal trainer Tom Couch'

It would appear that the program consisted of running from the local bakery to KFC and back. Perhaps it's a typo and 'Tom Couch' should read 'The Couch'

That is very funny, made me laugh. However, I also feel for Yarran, I wouldn't wish his situation on anyone.

Carlton got away with daylight robbery on this one (pick 19, ouch!)

They must have known the extent of Yarran's issues when they were demanding this kind of currency. All the power to them I guess, who wouldn't take advantage of Richmond's brazen naivety? Their list management has been farcical for years.

Richmond's recruiting over the last 10 years could well be worse than ours, and i say that in all seriousness!!

Lucas is right up there with Yarran..I am in no way defending the Pendergast years!!

Sure Cook turned out to be a poor pick at?13, but was as are tall 17yos a bit speculative.  Top dollar for Yarran was a mature aged player with known attributes and known deficiencies

You really need to applaud Carlton's list turn over lately. Since the failure of bringing in Daisy and losing Betts, they have managed to trade out players such as Yarran and Menzel and receive good value in return.

Losing Garlett too who was given away for a packet of peanuts.

That has proven to be a very poor trade for them, particularly considering they actually need a small forward.

I don't think he is the great buy most seem to think.

He plays like he did at Carlton one week brilliant the next week ok the next two he does not justify his spot in the 22.

He is the master of inconsistency.

We got him for nothing so based on little cost he has been reasonable but IMO he has been no big loss to Carlton and they got a then trouble maker off their list.

Speaking of Garlett...

Where is he? haven't noticed him in the training reports.

For the price we paid he has been excellent, it's all about opportunity cost with drafting and trading and so far we are well on top.

CB I have been  constantly told that what we paid for Dawes was immaterial in the wash up as we had to pay someone.

I did say he did not cost us much however I still maintain he is Mr. Inconsistent.

If you can't tell the difference between salary value and trade value then I can't help you.

Surely they are a combination.

Anyway CB we are probably derailing this thread

Sorry - can't agree old dee.

Garlett is very much a required player. Slightly poor season this year, but he was absolutely sensational the year before.

I reckon he's a gun. Just love his work when he's in the zone - he needs to chase harder without the ball though - both in attack and in defence, otherwise he tends to go missing for chunks of the game.

I am not so sure we are far apart in our assessment RB.

I think it is degrees of how long he goes "missing" for in a game.

To me he is either great or awful with nothing much in between.

He's a 40 goal a season player, even when he has an ordinary year and that doesn't count on the goal assists, wich sometimes go unnoticed.

I'm like you, I love his work, he's the sort of player, that when he's on he can kick a bag and give a few away.

Yes Old, he does go missing but that type of player does, most small forwards come in and out of the game, not sure why but it seems a trait.

If Hogan and Watts can fire working together next year then Garlett will be hugely important as a crumber.

i agree with the above...Jeff Farmer had his quiet weeks as well.

I always liked it when the Wiz got an early goal...same goes for Garlett, he needs to be involved to get his energy levels up

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
