Poor logic, D.Reemer.  If we based recruitment on being a son of a great, we'd currently have Jake Lovett and Garry Lyon's three boys on the list.

I'm only interested in Kobe if he's up to AFL standard.  His breeding is irrelevant.

Kids super young. How many dud category b rookies have we had that never get a game?

This.

People are far too easily sucked in by the bloodlines. Kobe Farmer will only pick himself on our list based on his current training standards not because of his last name.

Word is he’s training the house down. Just imagine the elation when he kicks his ninth against the pies on QB. He’s all but got a spot just working out whether he plays ones or twos come March

I think the Wiz's connection to the club definitely opened some doors for Kobe to get a chance with us, but it'll be up to him to take that chance and do something with it. So far it sounds like he's doing everything right.

Yes sounds like he’ll be getting a spot. Surprising given he was passed on by every club. He must’ve showed something special at training. Here’s hoping he can become a live wire like his old man!

Generally I agree with your posts but this is silly. Young Kobe can play. His bloodline has certainly gott him his chance and by all reports he’s risen to the challenge. The other sons you mention never even tried to get on an AFL list.

Well done young man getting a spot on the list.

We're all wishing you nothing but success and hopefully you can match the deeds of your old man.

I doubt they’ve done enough match practice to even see something special. 1.5 goals and 4 tackles in the Wafl colts means he’s not hopeless. So I’d imagine it’s just he’s settled in well and is physically and mentally handling the training and move across the country.

We’ve got 3 list spots and no true ‘rookies’ on our rookie list. He’ll be on the base wage and yes he’s probably worth a bit in good press which can’t hurt.

It will be interesting to see if they sign Deakyn Smith too.

If true now the hard work really begins, going to be hard to get a game.

It will be considering we have about 8 small forwards.

He was in the team pic, that may be a give away concerning intention.  Not sure about Deakin Smith. Was he in team pic as well?

Not to mention there were about 20 less kids selected in the 2020 draft compared to normal drafts due to the shortened list sizes.

They were overlooked in the draft worked their asses off in the WAFL and proved to AFL clubs they belong by being selected in the draft at a older age.

What's that got to do with Kobe? I'd love for Kobe to be a make it as much as anyone here. The fact that Fremantle weren't interested, no afl club was interested and he was hardly rated a mention means that he is working a long way back. Some posters are talking about a debut for round one. I see him more as a development player who probably is only on the list because of his last name.

I've been a bit of a broken record on this but we don't have eight. Before this season, we had two genuine small forwards - Kozzy and Bedford (who can't crack a game).

It is a massive issue for us, particularly with the way we are trying to play. We absolutely have to find some good ones and stop relying on makeshift forwards (ANB, Melksham etc).

Hopefully, at least one of Bowey or Laurie can play in that position.

That's what they have  been recruited for CP.. And then Ist rounders to get the best 2 picks of the smalls ,

Refer to JT on the behind the draft  Best decision makers best kicks and just love the game both.!!

Reckon  Charlie Spargo is the other small who is training well and has muscles up and getting involved .

What was a weakness  now will be a strength.

What makes Bedford a small forward and not Spargo and Chandler? Is it his race?

He’s not Eddie Betts but Spargo has some forward craft - can crumb, can move through traffic. He’s a pretty standard forward flanker. Melksham is a different type of player, he has enough forward craft if it wasn’t for his lack of pressure.

ANB isn’t an AFL level footy iq player but he does have rare physical gifts to play the high half forward. He’s 5% smarts, skills and tackling from being an effective team man. It’s certainly now or never though.

They all have 2 first names. (someone has to name their kid Jetta right)

I'm thinking there has been a few people working pretty hard to get this accomplishment over the line, but i don't know anything more than others.....

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. One of their last drills were three teams competing in a hard at it, handball game in a small area. Goody

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
