I don't really believe it. And I wouldn't be that excited by it. Rockliff is an average players IMO. And I've wanted to keep our. 2017 1st because - A - next years draft is STACKED. And B - We need picks to land a big fish next year. Eg. Fyfe, Martin, Heeney. Rockliff can't kick, can't go forward and has a bad attitude

Shut it down peasant!

That might be why we are trying to trade our 2017 2nd rounder for Hibberd. Then we can keep pick 19 and 30 for this years draft along with those 3 players! Dream result

You aren't allowed to trade any other future picks from that same year if you trade your first round pick...

So if we traded our future 17 first round we cannot trade our future 17 second round pick this year..

Pretty bizarre trade period if we land Hibberd, Rockliff and Lewis.

I'm not sure what to make of it actually.

Interesting also that there has been no mention anywhere of us being interested in any backup for Gawn which imo is our most pressing need.

there has also been little mention us us being interested in Rockliff and lewis too, just means that we are not telegraphing our intentions to the world

His stats seem to be reasonable will certainly add something to our midfield and potentially forward, he is still relatively young, a new start in a team that can help and support him who knows...

Having Hibberd, Rockliff and Lews (if all true) come in with Melksham who has been sitting on the sidelines with a couple of end of draw picks and rookie upgrades should be enough for this year, we need to keep an eye on having some decent picks next year, as any new player we get this year is not likely to be getting a game this year with the current side and our new draftees.

33 possessions and 9 tackles per game in 2014...  thats insane.  Anyone remember how many Brownlow votes he got that year?

True, but it makes more sense that we'd keep any Lewis or Rockliff talk on the hush hush and less so on a backup ruckman/forward..

(That makes sense in my head).

Ruckman and even backup ruckman seem to be in great demand at the moment, so teams will be looking at all of the options, ourselves included, if we show not obvious interest then teams may let him slide hoping to pick him up with a later pick. show too much interest and they are likely to jump in before we can,

Nope, can confirm Harry dear, from adelaide, wants to move back to Victoria. Dees been all up in his grill since mid season. Unfortunately carlton want him with Gibbs trade. Not sure how that plays out but I know he is very keen on getting to Melbourne. I've heard he has toured but again, can't get any confirmation from my Melbourne connections.

Lets not put the cart before the horse, & get ahead of ourselves,  Top 4 should be out of our thinking at this stage.

We should be aiming for a very good preseason.  And only hoping we make the finals at this stage.

Looking too far forward is fraught with dangers for young players.

Ah gee. I was hoping almost this exact scenario would occur all this morning.  To use next years pick in a deal like this.  But maybe woulkd be happier with the lions 2017 2nd Rnd pick back instead of 2016 30's pick  this year.

Please could we change the 2016 mid 30s pick,,, to the Lions 2nd Rnd pick from 2017 ?

Nothing should be out of the thinking.

Absolute can not believe the news I've got this morning.

Brisbane and Melbourne have agreed on handshake that rockliff will come to Melbourne for Dunn. We will give our first rounder for next year to Brisbane (which we bank on being 9-13) for Brisbane priority pick this year (19) as well as turning our second round pick (29) into a pick in mid 30s, which Brisbane are trying to get their hands on before end of trade week.

This is also delaying the Hibberd deal.

Brisbane will pay a portion of the salary. The only things holding this deal up are Brisbane not having a mid 30s pick yet, and rockliff not having results from a medical back yet.

Melbourne in- rockliff, end of round 1 pick (19); mid 30s pick.

Out, Dunn, 2017 Rd 1 pick (9-13) 2016 Rd 2 pick) 29

Source- both the new Brisbane football operations manager; and my uncle, fitzroy great, Brisbane scout and father of current afl captain. Oh and for any sceptics which I'm sure there are, this is out of the mouth of both.

I really hope this isn't true. Next year's draft is said to be a lot stronger than this one. We should be aiming for more first round picks next year, not trading ours off. Tell them they can have Dunn and Lamumba for The Rock. Much better for us.

I guess that would work too, but probably a bit high. Unless it was plan b for Brisbane not getting the mid 30s pick. Anything else and I'd only be speculating, that's just what I my news was. For what it's worth, I tried contacting my moderately reliable demon sources, and they either know nothing or are keeping very quiet on it.

Well, one or two kids this year 2016, is enough, as we already have quite a few to teach & develop... and if the mentioned 3 mature players come in this year, then keeping our 2017 2nd Rndr alive, makes more sense to me. So bringing in more kids again 2018.

I love that we are targeting the tough types, instead of the morton style.

Now lets get it done, & find a temporary follower.

    THE CAVALRY ARRIVES by Megg

The injury plague which has beset the Demons 2024 campaign is finally starting to dissipate and with consecutive wins over GWS Giants and a 2-point nail-biter in Adelade, a sense of optimism is rising.  Some commentators are now asking whether the Dees can make finals? A huge surprise with team selection this week when it was announced that champs Olivia Purcell, Paxy Paxman and Eden Zanker would play.   Hallelujah!  The cavalry has arrived. St Kilda missed the finals last season on pe

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.
