Huh? That's not the news I just read...

Via the AFL trade updates page:

A SAM WEIDEMAN UPDATE

The young Melbourne key forward kicked two goals on debut against Hawthorn as the Demons came away with an upset win to have supporters excited. With Jesse Hogan having recommitted to the club until the end of 2019, Melbourne will have a couple of tall targets in attack over the next few years.

According to his manager Ben Williams, Weideman will target playing about 15 games next year. Last year's No. 9 pick needs to put on weight, but that has to be gradual so he doesn't break down. An iron deficiency also made it harder for him to become heavier.

My bad, i skimmed it and thought it said he'd re-signed until 2019, need to read these things more carefully, apologies.

You just went a bit early probably, I'm sure that will be a headline at some stage!

Along with your "Hawthorn Blunder" post, it's clear that you've got it in for Clarkson and Hawthorn. Petty jealousy I assume.

And you get that wrong as well.

I was very friendly with Clarko, when he was appointed by my junior club, as its first head of coaching before he started his AFL Coaching career. I was Vice President of the Club and a Coach and had a fair bit to do with him. We got on very well. I also knew him at Melbourne when he played for us.
I have always had admiration for his coaching abilities even before the AFL Coaching started.

My post on Kennedy was to highlight a player mistake, that even a great Coach can make. It was not having a go at Clarko. It was just that Kennedy had been announced on the day, as winning another Swans B & F.

You have not pointed out one mistake in my post, but you just sidetrack. You also incorrectly assume I dislike Clarko. Well done.

Agree it is car crash brilliant. Like a surreal text based realit show. On Channel 31.

Given how big a [censored] he is can only be one of two people - Dank or Nixon. And seeing how Danks has little to do with trading i'm guessing Nixon. A 100% match for his psychological profile. Crazy as a bag of cats.

They just said we are offering our third rounder for Fantasia.

If true, Fantasia from Essendon anyone? Might be why the Hibberd trade hasn't been completed yet.

If true then we clearly don't rate this draft with our first pick to be in the 60s

There is no way they are letting go of Fantasia for a third rounder.... And there is no way we enter the draft in the 4th round.

He's not even trying.  Anyone with half a brain could make this account and have plausible trades.

Why not make up one about Bellchambers?  Say we're showing interest in him to fill the fwd/ruck role, might be some picks involved or a swap for JKH etc., and at least that would be somewhat believable.  Picking Fantasia is ridiculous as we have no need for him and the Bombers wouldn't flick him for a third round pick either.

yeah agree, most likely nixon. (could also be capper or jacko looking for some publicity)

An interesting one off twitter, but not to do with us - Rohan Connolly has heard that Deledio may also be interested in a move to the Dogs, and is keen for a chat with Luke Beveridge.  Not sure how spot on that would be, but this trade period gets more interesting by the minute.

If it's true, then yes, it sounds like it.  Reminds me of Karl Malone joining the Lakers at the end of his career simply so he could sit on the bench and win a ring.  It didn't work.  It seems there are some similarities here.

The guy is 33, has just won his 5th B & F and they ask him to give up being a one club player and help them out by playing with WC for a year or 2.

Clearly they won't get much for him from WC, other than salary cap space.

I think this is the sort of thing that will spread the cracks in Hawthorn's culture.

It's a terrible thing to do to Mitchell and deprives him of being a one club player and playing more games for his club, not to mention uprooting the family.

Looks like a lot of Hawks past players and supporters agree with my initial post.

Maybe the Hawks knew their fans and past players would be upset by the move, even if Mitchell ISN'T and that is why they didn't announce it at the B & F, where Mitchell could have told everyone he was happy to go and could have got a big round of applause for his contribution to the club and sefllesness, in accepting the proposal, that WAS NOT HIS IDEA.

From the AFL site:

SAM MITCHELL'S likely move to West Coast has blindsided Hawthorn fans, and most of them aren't happy with the potential trade.

Supporters and former players took to social media on Wednesday morning to voice their displeasure and confusion over the prospect of the 34-year-old joining the Eagles.

Some West Coast fans looked to celebrate a potential trade that would land them an experienced premiership winner.

You have to love this time of year when the one thing that you can affirm is the fact that telling lies is the second language of the AFL.

Take the conversation here about whether or not Sam Mitchell is being pushed out of the Hawthorn team. There seem to be two opposite views and then you listen to the interviews and almost come to the conclusion that Sam was not only happy to go but that he was the instigator of the decision.

Then this tweet from NAB Trade Radio quoting his manager Peter Lenton:-

"I think Sam himself was a bit blindsided by it, but understood it as well."

And this from the interview:

the 34-year-old, who recently won his fifth best and fairest award at the Hawks, revealed it was coach Alastair Clarkson who put forward the option of joining the Eagles.

"I didn't go to the club and say I want to go to West Coast," Mitchell told SEN radio.

"Clarko came over and said, as a friend, 'Is that something you'd be interested in?'

"And you could have knocked me over with a feather to be honest."

Interesting... Because Mitchell's own thoughts were the opposite of your original post and every supporter that gave feedback to SEN after the interview was positive about it.

Also, interesting when you read the actual feedback the article is talking about, hardly scathing to say the least...

Haha selective quoting again...

What about this:

Peter Lenton, Mitchell's manager, says there was "no pushing or shoving" from Clarko...but admits Sam was "blindsided" by the proposition.

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
