They want his salary out of their cap, so that won't happen.

They don't need it out for a while yet whenever the date is will be the date they will settle.

Of course they could always persuade him to go elsewhere.

Where Essendrug is involved never expect a quick result.

an interesting snapshot of a pub discussion on how the Hawks can land all of Vickery, O'Meara and Mitchell:

Vickery is free (yet they are still likely to come out losers)

O'Meara would likely be next years first round and a player (not necessarily a Hawk, e.g. Dunn could to GC, hawks give 2nd round to Melb with a possible swap of 3rd rounds)

Mitchell would be two first rounds this year (Hill trade) and perhaps some late picks or swapping picks; so that the Swans can have the required points for academy selections.

Note this is just speculation, without consideration of any hawthorn players being included; what it does show (with some tweaking) however that the trades can be done

why would we want him even if he was cheap

As I said, if he was cheap, which I would be looking at our 4th rounder, then I think he would be a good pick up, and would improve our list.  That said, if they wanted something higher than that, then he's not worth it.

Expect this to be done by Wednesday at the very latest.

Thankfully it's not us leaking good players to other clubs this year.

Another step up next season and we might just attract a couple of real good ones in 12 months.

Who are the OOCs and FAs next year worth having a crack at?

That's what I want to know.

I'm sure we're saving and have an idea of some potential targets right when we're in the sweet spot and opposition players can genuinely see we're a club on the rise.

As soon as we finish 5-8 on the ladder, we're in business for big names.

Need to keep our under 23 core together though.

Fyffe is one FA next year.

Tom Mitchell requests trade.. nominates Hawks. FMD.

Looking forward to the many falcons he will deliver to Vickery next year.... Both by hand and foot!

My hatred for the Hawks has reached levels not seen since Chris Lewis and the West Coast days

Jealousy is a curse, I would love this to be the Dees.

Hard to see Hawthorn and Geelong ever dropping to the bottom half when they get to top up their lists with decent players year after year.

They might have to trade for their targets, but once a player 'nominates' them, the gun is loaded and finger on the trigger.

Yes, he'd be a good pick-up to take over from their ageing champions.

Think OD meant he'd love the Dees to be hated in the same fashion as the Hawks - me too. Don't think Mitchell is a big loss in terms of a trade target. Won't thrive when S. Mitchell, Lewis and Hodge are gone and all the weight is on his shoulders. He has had Parker, Kennedy, Jack etc to work with at the Swans and will be exposed IMO.

Clearly the AFL have got it right on equalization, as can be seen once again, by where players want to go.

Geelong, Hawthorn, Adelaide, Collingwood are 4 of the leading destinations for players.

We need these struggling clubs to survive and AFL head office has got it right.

Agreed. With the Hawks not winning this years premiership, is there any word around on when they'll apply for a priority pick?

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
