How has it hurt them?

Ryan Griffen is just a player now, nothing special and the Dogs young mids stepped up without him. Sure they could've held on to a pick and taken a cheaper young key forward ie. Peter Wright but I think Boyd isn't any worse. Yeah the contract limits what else they can do but assuming he comes good as a decent key forward and the contract is front loaded then in 2-3 years he'll probably be on a fairer contract. 800k a year for a decent young key forward will be the going rate and he could be on that by then.

Suckling has faults but he's around the mark as a bottom 6 guy in a top team and he was a free agent. If you have to pay a bit of extra cash to get him but can keep your draft picks then that's a win. I'd rather pay Suckling extra money and sign him for free than pay Hibberd good money and have to cough up a valuable pick.

If we get a little more successful over the next year or two I'd love to sign a free agent of similar ability to Suckling to give us a bit more depth and keep draft picks. You can trade out players who aren't getting games and continue the cycle of getting in the draft or save a few picks to combine for a needs based trade.

It will start hurting them when their players start coming out of contract.

This is my concern, you add in Thompson and Barlow potentially and it's two young kids potentially missing spots, and Barlow would really be on the fringe of best 22.

I don't think Barlow will happen as we have nothing to trade for him unless they want Dawes or Dunn

My thoughts exactly. You can make an argument for someone like NDS/Wells/Harvey because they offer something on the outside which we currently lack, but don't understand why we would recruit two more inside mids when we are well stocked in that area. I think Flamingdees post overall has a good chance to be on the money but I'd be puzzled if we recruited more inside mids.

I poster earlier the perfect fit if we want an experienced player into coaching role is Matty Boyd, if the dogs let him go we should make a call, he'd reenforce the back line and provide great experience and Crossy, Macca and Craig Jennings have all worked with him.

Hogan - Your source's assessment of the Hogan situation is the most credible I've read on here.

Even though it aligns with GNF's last post on this matter?

Good stuff.

Much more believable. Doesn't sound made up on the fly like someone else we know.

I never knew how we would have landed Prestia without a first round pick.

we would have found a way if he wanted to get to the club, not having high end picks hasn't stopped Hawks chasing O'meara and Mitchell

The majority of their quality young players have already come out of contract and been signed up. They might lose someone like Tom Campbell but more for opportunity than money. I'm sure the Boyd deal will test them, but I just don't think it will have any huge hurt on them. The cap space will rise and they have such depth of quality cheap young players up their sleeves that it will be mitigated. Don't pay Lin Jong 400k, trade him away, play Josh Dunkley who's still on his rookie deal. They can do that with several fringe players.

There may not be much more to post.

Under the circumstances, would be happy with any/all of that, though not sure what we have to offer to get some of these deals done. We're not going to get anything much for Dunn/Grimes/Garland.

I'm not saying Flamingdees has made it up, but he/she is basically just as vague to be honest. "His intentions are anyone's guess". And nothing Flamingdees actually posted should be news to anyone. It's very interesting how a few posters are quite happy to applaud a post that's as vague as a violet, yet if that came out of GNF's account, he would have been heckled and decried.

I don't mind Flamingdees' post. I hope he keeps posting, just like GNF, even though the former's post sounds a bit like a [censored]-take with "Hi fellow Dee's supporters", as if it had been written by Sam Newman.

GNF's biggest fault was his [censored]-farting around with the cryptic clues a few years back. He doesn't do that anymore though.

Yeh all good, I just said it sounded more believable that's all (doesn't necessarily mean I do believe it or like it).

My point exactly they have signed their young players and when those players contracts next come up they will command more money.

Its the same with what is happening with Sydney and the fact they lost Mummy and will no lose Mitchell.

Hahaha must be, i am more than happy to trust my own info, just out of curiosity, have you considered ignoring GNF's posts? seems more productive than venting the same opinions over and over and getting absolutely nowhere?

Hi Demonlanders,

I read your threads daily and no I'm not that bloke who was called braysure or what ever his name was.  Thought it was quite funny....

Anyway tried to get more specifics and will continue to do so but as my man said anything can happen in trade week. Deals that often clubs think are a lock often fall over for one reason or another. It's hard to be specific.

I too would love to see us pick up an a grader. The club will not put itself in a position where we are paying 200K above market rate for someone. Developing our current talent and becoming a successful destination club is the goal so I'm told. Prestia would have been in the top few paid at our club.  Doesn't create a good culture.  Richmond board is trying to satisfy supporters by making them look good at the long term detriment to the club.

Clubs like the Hawks can offload fringe players for decent picks and players as their fringe players are much better and more proven than ours.

I would hate to think where we would be this year if injuries hit us harder than what they did.

Also this won't be news to many but he did say we were in a great position if we can hold on to our young talent because free agency and the fact that contracts mean nothing anymore is killing lower clubs.  Being a successful destination club can mean an additional 15% in there salary cap as players are willining to play for less.

Not worth starting a new thread for. But let's keep a eye on Toby Nankervis this weekend and see how he goes.

Yep, he's one I'm keen on looking at a back up ruck with enough ability to be a reasonable forward option as well. Keen to see how he goes.

Oh, forgot to say that there has been interest in JKH but club feels he has more upside than the shitty picks we might get for him but watch this space.  Anything can happen.

Good, I'm still a fan.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
