Changes v Geelong

I am bewildered by posters that say Pedo is not a part of the future. He has played well in every winning game we have played with him in the side. He takes strong contested marks and is a more reliable shot at goal than most of the forwards in our side. It actually annoys me that we just write him off. Weed wont be a game breaker from Rd 1 next year. We need some back ups ...Cut the bloke some slack.

He'll be 30 when next season starts, that's why.

I could be wrong but I feel like our general win rate is far higher when Pedo is in the team. I'm sure he played in the Geelong win last year as well.

Has anyone got some facts to back me up, even just for 2016 games that he played in?

Hogan was missing when we beat Geelong and Hawthorn, so does that make him worse for us? Don't think you can take much out of a role player playing when we win or lose really. Pedo has never won a game for us himself.

This week is culture week.  There will should be 22 blokes run out in the red and blue on Saturday that owe it to Roos to have a massive game and get a victory.  He has set this team up to play finals next year (hell, we should've been playing them this year).  He deserves one almighty final performance.

Changes;

In: Matt Jones

Out: Michie

I dont want all of these changes but at least 3 of them, need to try a few things The result matters less than seeing what type of play we dish up.

Out:

ANB    - He is an inside mid not a small forward needs to played as such or at Casey
Michie - Average/ok with the ball but doesnt do enough
Bugg   - Was ok but makes way for Salem
Vince  - Poor form since the bye example to be made
Kent   - If injured, he played out the game but if he has any issues through the week no risk taken
Weiderman - Would like to see him again but he looked tired by qtr time may be worth another run anyway.

In:
JKH       - Play the role they tried to get ANB to play  would love to see him coming of the back flank like Kent and Tracc do all the time(may not be match fit if not dont risk)
Harmes - HBF again, play Vince's role and show him how its done.
Salem   - Bugg like role except with skill and class
Garlett - Need more forward crumbers and more pressure
Kennedy - If Garlett is still injured
M Jones - in the mix if the like of JKH and Salem are not up to it
Pedo - Only dropped for Weid test run

I'm a big wrap for Harmes; he's always willing to take the game on.

In addition I'd like to see some positional changes- would love to see ANB and VDB have some decent time on the ball and Hunt have a game on the wing.

Of course my heart also would love to see Trengove back in the team.

Hulett in if ok, and Bartel tagged

Wouldn't mind Hulett getting a chance. I think it is a great thing for a young player to go into a pre season with a senior game under his belt. They just feel more part of the club and team and it gives them some confidence in their ability and how they are viewed by the FD.

To help with their development I'd love to see ANB go head to head with Selwood and Oliver go with Dangerfield, I really don't think ANB is suited to a forward pocket and won't be played there long term so get him in the action where he belongs.

Agree but who do you take out of that inside midfield? Jones, Viney, Tyson, Oliver are the main ones he is competing with, he cant take any of their spots. Exception is maybe Oliver if they want to rest him, but no use doing that with just 1 game to go. He should continue to play at Casey and come in when an inside mid spot becomes available, not played out of position in the seniors. We wont have a flawless injury run every year, he will get his chance

I agree, but we need to try him in their for his own development's sake. He's an accumulator at Casey but hasn't had the chance to even get a look at the pace of the centre square in the seniors.

Clarry can play a game off half forward- good overhead, good speed and can kick a goal.

We need the players to go into the preseason knowing the level that's needed of them to take the next step.

completely agree. I think we will target a tall fwd/2nd ruck but good ones are hard to find

so I can see Pedo playing for 2 more years to help Weeds/Hoges/Hullet.  thats a young fwd line.  the other think is that Pedo can ruck and those 3 can't/shouldn't.  I also dont think Watts can ruck (pushed off the ball very easily yesterday) but he has to at the moment

Pedo might be 29 but he is young as far as games played so hopefully his body holds up

Ins: Matt Jones, Garlett

Outs: Kent (ankle), Bugg

  • We lost on Sunday because of our conversion, poor clearance work and over use of the ball in the wet. Our team changes have been blamed and also didn’t work out as we hoped, but I feel we should still persevere with Michie, Neal-Bullen and Weideman now that the season is shot. It can often take more than one game to come to terms with the tempo of AFL footy.
  • We are a better side with Matt Jones in it because he is our best outside runner. I understand he has been squeezed to give the kids a go, but it has hurt our balance, with not enough pace on the outside.
  • Kent was hobbling around and I don’t see the need to take any risks with injury now.
  • I don’t think Neal-Bullen has the athleticism for AFL, but I am willing to give him more time before casting final judgement.
  • Michie didn’t have a great start to the game and was a bit off the pace, but he uses the ball well and deserves at least one more chance to stay on the list IMO. I don’t mind Michie because he generally makes good decisions with the ball.

They have been.  The AFL recruited our CEO, determined who could and couldn't be on our Board and provided significant amounts of money when we were at our lowest ebb at the time of appointing Roos.

One can be fully cognisant of history while supporting a team.  Only a nong would think it's mutually exclusive.

I wanted to give you a double like for suggesting a poster is a "nong"

While I do think that Matt Jones deserves another contract, I dont think he comes in this week. Also if Kent pulls up I dont see why we drop him. We need his run, and because he was injured, we missed it. Also going to quickly high horse and say if you were at the game you would have seen the serious miles that Brayshaw ran and the influence he had on contests. No point dropping the Wied. We are not playing for anything but pride and 2017 and he'll hopefully have another 3 games for Casey in the finals. Might as well hone his game against Geelong.

In:

  1. Trengove - He has had a season of good football at the 2's and against a side which isn't quick, he might be able to come into his own. My worry is about what position he would play. He'd need to be playing out of the square or running up and down the wing. So that would mean leaving Bernie at half back for another week.
  2. Garlett - Just needed, even when he isnt playing well.

Out:

  1. Michie - not enough for my mind. I'd rookie him for another year as he is great depth, but I feel we are asking him to play a position that doesnt suit him. He is a clearance player and he is a long way down that list at the MFC.
  2. ANB: He was in for Garlett and now I am taking him out for Garlett. Really feel as if he had a chance in the centre square he'd show us what he has been doing at VFL level.

The only other thing I would consider is Grimes for VDB but VDB does have some credits. I just dont think he is adding a lot to the team at the moment. I think Salem needs a run at some football and by bringing him back this week he misses Casey finals. I believe that another 4 games where he is able to work on his fitness is better than one and then resting for September.

This game still means something.

Nothing would give me more pleasure than beating the AFL charity case that is Geelong in the final round on their home turf and kicking them out of the top 4, or at worst killing their hopes of a top 2 spot and making them travel to Sydney or Adelaide in week 1 of the finals. And for good measure I hope Viney injures both Selwood and Dangerfield and they miss the finals series.

To finish the season 11-11 with a % over 100 would be a great segue to the Goodwin era.

You see this is the problem with the MFC at present. Too much is left up to the younger players, the experienced leaders need to be stepping up. So, Viney to injure Selwood, and Vince to injure Dangerfield.

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
