Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

All he has to do is tell Frawley a joke that he doesn't understand and that will bugger him up for most of the game  and with Gibson, just call him Henry and read him poetry.

All I ask is that posters don't shlt can him after one game....I don't expect him to have a big influence on the game

This selection is for the future......Up against one of the hardest teams in the comp , to learn what it is all about at the elite level.

I think that he will be given two games and then back to Casey for their finals series.

Good luck to the lad.

Ridiculous request Bossdog, I am positive that Saturday afternoon, no matter how Weed goes, some posters will [censored] can him.

That's how this whole thing works.

But I'm wishing the best of luck to him, and am looking forward to seeing him in action.

This isn't meant to negative but let's be realistic:
He's not going to be great at ground level.
He's not going to be able to out body opponents to take easy marks.
If he gets the ball in traffic the speed of the game might mean his skills by hand or foot aren't great.
His defensive effort probably isn't going to be fantastic.
Every chance is the pressure of the game means any set shots he gets will be hard to finish

But what I will look forward and am excited about is his reading of the play and leading patters and his ability to contest in the air when given a run and jump at the ball - which might only happen once or twice in the game. If he can get up on the lead and have a jump at a few high balls he could end up with 4 or 5 marks and maybe slot a goal or two. Add in a few more possessions from general play and it will be a nice debut. All the best Sam.

His draft profile suggest he is like Joe the goose Daniher. Is that correct now?

Not as athletic, or as wayward a kick.

He moves in a similar way to Pav but without the mobility at this stage (or with the mobility of 35 year old Pav).

He's smart on the lead and can take a good mark. Won't have the defensive game just yet but I think of any of the top forwards right now he probably compares most to Josh Kennedy.

His career will be written off by multiple posters by quarter time. Nothing surer.

There should actually be a thread with outright ridiculous statements that have factually been proven wrong. Or would that be bigger than the Scully thread?

I think he was high risk based on injuries and whether his body could hold up.. I don't think there was a risk of him being a really good key forward as long as he had some luck with injuries..

super risky decision by the selection panel.. of course i can't wait to see sam debut, but cannot help but feel he'd be better off kicking the door down, not having one really good game against an average vfl team. he hasn't done enough at vfl level yet. this is surely just a selection to help him see what he needs to work on over the warmer months.. i reckon he'll only have one game for the dees by the end of the year. fingers crossed no injuries and he clunks a few! i'll be yelling his name out in any event.

Thanks Dee Spence  i just shudder at having a Joe Daniher clone who I believe is a bust

I'm calling it early.  He'll kick a lazy 5 -- including the winning goal after the siren from just outside the 50, on the boundary.  Get's the Rising Star nomination as well.

Okay.  I'm only dreaming...!  (Just don't wake me up!!)

Although starting against the Hawks is scary, I don't think this is comparable to the Watts debut.  There will be nowhere near the hype and unrealistic expectation this time. So if he has a stinker it can just be viewed as getting experience of AFL standard before next year.

Nah Daniher is a very good player with a terrible weakness. If the Weid can mark and move like Daniher then he'll be a star. Unfortunately Daniher's kicking takes him from nearly the best young key forward to often a waste of space.

Spot on post... Jack Watts hype was all about this 'messiah' type figure.. We have changed as a club... Good to see how he goes.

I've been getting down to Casey most weeks to watch him play .. There's no doubt he has talent. Sure hands and great goal kicking technique. However.. My opinion is that I don't think he's ready for a call up against the Hawks of all teams.. His defensive side I've felt, still needs a lot of work. Including his field kicking efficiency. He had a really great game last week, but I would've liked to see him string at least 2 or 3 great games in a row before a call up.

There's no doubt i'm really excited to see him debut though, and I'm sure he will have a real crack.

Dead right. I have seen all but 1 game at Casey this year. He is not ready, sure he had a good game against Coburg who were pathetic. His previous 4 games were very poor. Hope he plays well but think it is a stupid move.

I expect/hope he plays out of the goal square and as long as we can give him a few opportunities to jump at the ball, I think we'll see some influence.

Agree with others in that if he isn't given opportunities to jump at it, he won't have much of an influence as he lacks the running power/speed and core strength that seasononed players have.

We need our mids to use the ball smartly when going forward.

Hopefully Hogan gets up for it and Dawes gets demoted.

Weeds deep with Hogan at CHF.

Watts alternating from a pocket to a high half forward.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
