As far as I am concerned 2 teams played under the same conditions one was okay and the other was putrid. One trains at the ground and would have a greater degree of familiarity with its nuances yet the away team were better in the poor conditions which were nothing like the ground they are familiar with. There are no excuses for the performance served up.

Not looking for excuses. Collingwood were much better. Anything is possible in a one off game. Could care less about the result.

At the risk of repeating myself, it's mainly about development, or the lack thereof, on this putrid ground.

Would be much better had we played at Collingwood, lost, and Casey players developing under AFL conditions.

This game was a complete waste of team for all the AFL aligned players. No doubt, for example, Aish was good. He will never get suitable conditions for him like this again in the AFL. Cloke was similarly Ok as everyone came back to his pace. No doubt the Collingwood brains trust will be aware of this.

Yes, If it satisfies you, Collingwood were better on the day although, in the big picture, irrelevant.

Totally agree with you. Casey is not an appropriate ground for an AFL team. We need to dump the relationship and do as the Pies, Dogs etc have done and set up our own, stand alone team. Maybe share Western Oval or Punt road?

Port Melbourne for mine. Good ground, great (winning) culture/history and have our name In there, use our song and similar colours.

And arguably the best coach In the VFL, who has AFL pedigree and would know the Importance/value of running a similar method/structure and style of play that closely resembles that being run at seniors level.

No brainer for mine. Might be a riot by the old Borough faithful at the mere mention however.

All I know is I watched a game where two teams played in the same conditions and one smacked the other because they went harder, ran harder, were cleaner and played to the conditions. Matt Jones only player deserving of mention aside from Keilty from Casey who looks a likely type.

I didn't see the game and haven't been to Casey this year, but regardless, in reference to this game, as far as I can tell both teams played on the same ground and one outplayed the other.

Matt Jones may play more games for Melbourne this year, but he'll purely be depth in 2017.

It's really disappointing that Brayshaw and Salem have had their seasons nobbled.

Don't like how Matt Jones always runs back in2 traffic & gets pinged. He doesn't have awareness of what's around him & lacks footy smarts. If we are to improve as a club we need 2 develop young talent thru the draft $ not hang on 2 Terlich, Jones, Michie etc foot soldiers who have no special talents.

Casey is in the second fastest growing region in the country. On a broader level we need to build our supporter base. Id be pretty sure that's one of the reasons we are out there.

Footy is pretty important but we can't ignore the bigger picture longer term...

That was the worst games I've seen Matt Jones play. Started off with the sitter dropped at full forward and for the rest of the game demonstrated the peripheral vision of Raph Clarke

What a turn around beat one of our nemesis sides last week followed by our worst effort to date. Pies aren't that good. Thanks KC and other posters, fortunately at Grand daughters 1st Birthday so missed all but the last 10-15 minutes of play !!! I was shocked by the result and made my anxiety about tomorrow's game five fold, please let us not dish up this type of tripe on Monday!! Go Scorps , Go Dee's!!!

The game against Collingwood VFL at Casey Fields was without doubt the Casey Scorpions' worst performance for the year. In fact, it was the among the club's worst in VFA/VFL history - a game in which it recorded its lowest ever score of 2.7.19 which is three points less than the 3.4.22 it recorded against North Ballarat in 2004 when it was known as Springvale.

The conditions were not by any means conducive to good football; the ground was heavy under foot, it rained intermittently, the wind swirled around from time to time and it was freezing cold in between the times when the sun peered through the watery clouds. Perfect conditions for a good, old fashioned scrap.

Casey was first into attack but when a kick across the ground presented an easy mark in front of goals to Matt Jones but was dropped, the tone of the day was set. The Magpies pushed the ball forward and recorded two goals in five minutes. The Scorpions took until well into time on (24½ minutes) of the opening quarter to record their first score - a goal to Ben Newton and the game remained pretty much in the balance until well into the third term before the home side eventually capitulated in the face of a four goal final term from the visitors. Casey's second and only other goal for the day came 10 minutes into that quarter and by that time it was a case of too little, too late.

The team was only a shadow of the one that has taken almost all before it this season, despite a preeminent exhibition of ruck work that saw Jake Spencer amass the outstanding number of 82 hit outs. Unfortunately, for Casey this domination did not translate into the advantage that number would normally bring a team. The conditions and the congestion of the close in tight packs and the determination and discipline of the Magpie midfield saw to that.

Both teams struggled with their marking, disposal and ball handling but, as the result suggested, Collingwood was so much better on the day and their defence reigned supreme nullifying Casey's normal marking strength up forward.

Down back, the Scorps' skipper Jack Hutchins continued on his good form and he was assisted by Declan Keilty. Mitch White was steady as usual and Newton had his moments.

The Casey on-ballers who usually produce big numbers were not as effective as usual with their ball use and, as a result, their team rarely opened the game up to the swift free-flowing movement that has been characteristic of their 2016 season to date.

Next week, the team will have to regroup in another place not usually known for hospitable conditions at this time of year - North Ballarat.
