Lumumba Concussion

I didn't see the incident where he was concussed, does anyone know what happened? I am also a bit worried that he is listed as indefinite. I hope he hasn't lost the passion to play.

I read last week he was back on the track training after significant concussion symptoms for a long time.

yeah I read in another thread that he has apparently had on-going migraines and what not, related to the concussion. I would assume they're taking an ultra conservative approach.

Especially as, IMVHO, he has not been missed, particularly.  His long term welfare is paramount, (as is the case for all concusees

It was considerably less publicised compared to Brayshaws symptoms and diagnosis.

That said, I'm sure the club wouldn't use a 'phantom' injury to mask anything genuine.

My son suffered a bad concussion two years ago in a game. It was an innocuous knee from a teammate into his cheek. He ended up having to be in a dark room 5 days after the hit. He was off school for two weeks and then he started getting bad headaches if he had to do anything involving too much thinking for another two weeks. Eg in visual arts he was fine. In maths he got headaches. It was a very weird five weeks. I've learnt a new appreciation for how serious it can be and for how long.

That sounds terrible. And to a young brain. We know so little about what this does long term. Hope he's better IT.

I think he's been a big loss actually. Given the potentially career ending nature of these things Im concerned .

I agree i think we've missed H more than some think.  Hary does march to his own drum but the tempo he exhibited and spread he required were starting to come into our game.  That would  have got better as it meshed over the season. Weve now not had this eventuate; might not.

The likes of his and Gus's predicaments are most unfortunate.

The Prince played his best 2 games for the club earlier this year. I think he has been missed a lot. Particulalrly when we have such an inexperienced back line.

Thanks Moony and BB.  

He is fully recovered now and doesn't seem to be suffering any long term effects. He's in the middle of his HSC and maybe it knocked some sense into him because he's doing better than in the past.

He suffered from headaches for many months and then even after that when he got headaches they were much worse than before. But its long gone now.

I posted his story because it gives you some idea of what can happen with concussion. I can understand that any player suffering a similar concussion could be out for a long time like HL is at the moment. And why they need to be super conservative with a young man like Gus.

We all now know way more about concussion injuries that we did just a couple of years ago.

At the end of the day it is only a game which see most playes finish in their early thirties and for some earlier. All the players have a long time to live after football.

I do not care how long the industry or my club gives players out to re cover. If we lose a game so be it.

The players life after football is way more important.

No doubt. And I think the club is absolutely demonstrating their support for the players...which can only be a good thing for the club as a whole. Does anyone have any up to date info about H?

He's all good now thanks. It's a story worth sharing so people understand a bit more about how little it takes and how long it can effect a player.  Like Ted Richards at the Swans. Just fell backwards after taking a mark and unfortunately the follow through of the momentum smashed the back of his head into the ground. He's been pretty crook for a few weeks. Wasn't even another player. Seems quite often concussions come from players hitting their heads on the ground not necessarily the impact from a player that might have sent them on their way. 

I've experienced it a couple of times. It's a shocking feeling. I can't believe how some of these blokes get up and keep going.

Angus went for a ten minute job two or three weeks back and suffered headaches.

 

Rest assured, the club will be conservative with these two.

Sure, it's a reported issue. Such have been other instances. But people may continue to be confused as to the origin of this injury as no one can exactly point to when it occurred. I have no direct point, and I don't wish to cast aspersions, but the purpose of the post was to raise a legitimate question as others may ask regarding the authenticity of the report in the context of the current AFL policy on such matters. Please note: I'm a keen supporter of recreational drug-use. As such, I think the current AFL charade is ridiculous and would hope that my club wouldn't partake in such a pretense. Unwarranted as directly related to Lumumba, yes, unnecessary, no.

*Well, it seems my post was deleted regardless. Wasn't advocating a position but raising a question. I'll take it elsewhere.
