Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Without checking every game, Jack has found himself playing at Casey nearly every week (even tho named on the extended bench or the 'final' 25) and has not often made it to be the game day emergency so if someone falls ill he does not get the spot.

I just think the clubs approach is wearing thin.

Keeping in mind a couple we played on a saturday meaning when he wasnt played he then played for casey anyway. The club cant have the same player as game day emergency too many times because it hampers their match fitness. I know he traveled to tassie for that week. I'm not sure if he has traveled any others. But I would be surprised if Jack didnt get a chance, his good form has been mentioned by Roos a couple of times. We will have a couple of loses in this tough run home so expect him to play when people inevitably get dropped.

Plapp's VFL reviews are basically all positive but his latest one for Grimes speaks volumes. He considers Casey very fortunate to be having Grimes in the team week on week, and the clear message was that he should be playing in the AFL side.

I'm glad Jack isn't getting a game, because he makes us a more unreliable football side.

Selections should be made on form, not preconceptions. Grimes has well and truly earned his opportunity.

If Matt Jones can improve to a point where his absence from the side can become noteable, anything is possible.

It seems to me there's a huge supporter (and club, even) divide between Trengove and Grimes. Obviously there's correlation between the two, both ex co-captains, first round picks who showed a ton of potential in their early days and then struggled to handle the pressure. Seems the majority have sided with Trengove and can't wait for Grimes to get out the door and to me it's slightly unfair. Trengove's struggle to come back has won a lot of hearts, he probably has better potential, and he's younger, but he isn't without fault in his game. Grimes remains a handy footballer who isn't getting a chance

I'd say form, ability and depth. Grimes has form.

He also has ability.

I have been a Grimes critic in the past. He's frustrated me. But at some stage the weight of criticism went well beyond reasonable.

He's clearly deserved a game this season in comparison others who have been given chance after chance, seemingly irrespective of performance.

Having met Grimes he's one of the best blokes you'll meet and I've always been a fan, but saying that Grimes and Trengove are basically in the same boat in terms of circumstance is a fair way off IMO -

Trengove was always a clever mid with a good tank, reliable setshot inside 50 and used the ball well. At his best Grimes was a good half back flank who read the ball well.

Trengove's form slump was likely to be injury related before his diagnosis. Grimes has been somewhat consistent over the journey with the current FD obviously feeling that he doesn't have all of the attributes that they want for the positions that he's being asked to play, preferring  younger quicker guys on the flanks, and guys with a bit more dash and agility on the wings.

Well Trengove's being nursed back in despite lacking speed/agility. He's given it a crack though. I think in Grimes' first few years many talked him up as a future club champion. We seriously could've used him in place of a tall in the wet last game

The fact is Grimes & Roos don't see eye to eye. Haven't from the day Roos came into the club. Half way through last year he had conceded he was gone at season end, with a year to run on his contract & no takers in the trade period he stayed on. He has known from the start of the year that his time at the MFC is up. His hoping to get his 2 games to get to 100... Unless something has changed in the last 6 months, Jack won't be at the dees next year which is disappointing considering everything his been through & grew up a die hard dees fan..

Almost brings a tear to one's eye.

Hope he gets an opportunity at another club and does well. He deserves it.

He will have even less chance of playing for us next year with melksham and maybe hibberd. And hunt Wagner etc all older

I disagree strongly.

Jack Grimes is very limited as a modern footballer. His strength is an ability to read the ball and that he's a reasonably good mark for his size. His disposal is very poor... almost unacceptable, he isn't quick and he gets pushed around easily. Love the guy's persistence and heart, but his card was marked as soon as Hunt and Wagner showed form. With Salem and H set to come back at some point (hopefully) and Vince and NJones perhaps spending more time across half back as they age, we have no spots left. He's not a prospective key back so cannot be compared to the Mac bros. Nev Jetta improved all his deficiencies to become a valuable small back, not such a different role from what Jack could have become. For better or worse, speed and precise rebound across half back have become king, and we have too many turn over merchants as it is.

Stuck on 98. There's little room for sentimentality in AFL these days.

I understand he has deficiencies but if he's putting in consistently strong performances at VFL level, how can you be certain as to the degree he has improved upon those deficiencies until they are once again tested at AFL level? He hasn't played a game this season. Not one.

He's also being played in a variety of more attacking roles in the seconds so he doesn't necessarily need to be pigeonholed in the backline.

I'll be bitterly disappointed of the club doesn't see fit to get him to 100 games given the servant he has been. It's two games ffs. In a season we are pretty clearly not playing finals in. But nah, let's give Kent another three or four games in a row to put in lacklustre efforts until that one game he does something useful.

Agree to disagree.

I hope that would be the very last reason to give a guy a senior game or keep him on the list. Actually, I'd say that is no reason to do it. We are bigger than that now.

Don't get bogged down by that. I've said repeatedly I think he deserves a chance on merit. It's not simply about charity. But doing the right thing by the player does come into it.

I have heard there is a little bit of interest in grabbing Grimes as a free agent from at least two AFL clubs, not sure if either will go ahead but Essendrug and the Brisbane Lions are a chance to give him a lifeline and i really hope one of them does.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
