It is reported in the Hun that Tayla Harris has signed with the lions as their first womens player. Guess she wont be sticking with the dees.

Seems a little strange that they can sign her when the licenses are not known yet.

I cant help but compare it all to "A leaqgue of their own " at this juncture

There appears to be little structure, rules or planning into the women's national competition which is amazing given it starts next year. The AFL will do what they do best in these circumstances - make it up as they go along with no rhyme or reason and no accountability.

Has she moved to Queensland?

If clubs are signing, hopefully this means we've locked Daisy away.

not sure what signing really means

demons vs lions womens game is on this week at the G before the men. presume all concerned are signed up (at least for whatever comp you call this years).

can't see how you can sign up to a club in a new competition that doesn't even exist yet, let alone a club still vying for one of a limited no. of licences

however, got the impression the afl indicated previously that they would allow each club to sign up limited marquee player(s)

She always was from QLD, so it's no surprise she's signed with a local team. I expect our Lady Demons team to not look much like the teams that have ran out the last couple of years, as those games have been the best of the best from across Australia, next year in the new comp they'll be spread out a bit more evenly amongst the squads.

I coach women's AFL in Central Queensland and got the pleasure of spending a day coaching women from our region with Tayla.  Was absolutely stoked to meet one of the original Melbourne Demon women's players, and had a great chat to her about the Women's League and it's just as you've said, there's very little in way of structure and planning.  The girls who currently play with the Demons or Dogs sides don't really know one another unless they happen to play at a club level together and there is very little training or bonding together - they sort of just turn up and are expected to play on the big stage with women they hardly know.  Tayla seemed to looked forward to the introduction of more teams including a Queensland side, where there was far more structure, training, planning etc, where they could play their best football and really earn the respect of the public.

Sad she won't stay a Demon but very happy for her, was a lovely young women and hopefully the bigger league will give the women the best chance to ply their trade and show their skills in front of the nation.

She's gone home and they gave her a job. Who can blame her?

certainly not I . Ws inevitable. The two foundation teams were always  bound to lose a few ( or more )  Very early, very embryioninc.

Im sure with our signings to date they'll have a very good idea of who to go after.

That wasnt the issue I was alluding too. While I would have lived her at the dees it wasn't to be. As long as we dont lose Daisy then all is good.

I was more questioning the signing of llayers before the teams are announced but as was asked above, what exactly does signing mean?

The AFL are really strlarting to show their true colours of complete disorganisation with the rolw out of the womens team.

The Darebin women's team, of which Daisy is captain, is generally considered the best team in the local comp. Hope we raid them as those players have bonded and already know each other's strengths.

I'll be facinated if the above posters will:

a: ever go to a woman's game (if it's not a curtain raiser)

b: watch the game on TV

my feeling is that the majority of the population will also have a care factor of -5

We're going to miss her. This was two days ago:

https://www.facebook.com/AFLQUEENSLAND/videos/10153983837241066/

Tayla has spoken in glowing terms of the Melbourne Football Club and would have loved to have maintained a link with the club and the girls she's obviously got to know pretty well but at the end of the day she works for AFLQ and is one of the key marketing tools used in the promotion of the women's game up here. And more importantly, her mum would miss her too much if she moved to Victoria, even if it was for only three months a year.

ughhh. really?! a game of footy is a game of footy. i've just started playing in a pub footy league in melbourne and the teams are uni-sex.. big crowds, beers and dogs running out on to the pitch. at the end of the day, isn't it fun watching a ball getting kicked around?

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
