POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 8

Roos didn't get it rite early, can't give a top team a big start & expect to win, happy with the way we fought it out .

Gawn needs a rest he's cooked, no way he'll get to the bye

Our decision making and execution by hand was terrible, young side will learn though. Posted a couple of weeks ago dogs north game most throws i've ever seen

The Bulldogs are ahead of us in development .....not overly disappointed today ....there are obvious weaknesses but also enormous upside .....they may have an undermanned back line but our back line is also young & in some cases past it (garland) ....however i honestly think we will go past them next year...the days of port Adelaide racing up the ladder are no more ...& look where they are now

I was genuinely shocked by the number of throws they got away with. I don't want to descend into sledging the umps, because the doggies were quite clearly the better side, but it was incredibly frustrating.

And then Hunter twice, and McLean once, got frees from ducking and lifting the arm, although all were in the act if going down and collecting the ball.

Look at the Saints today - a young side, heading over to WA... and they get smashed by 100 points.  We are in the same boat as them, although I believe we are playing better all round footy.

Understand that we will still have days like today.  It's going to happen.  It's good to see that most supporters can see that this week.  We can't fault the effort, just the execution, and the consistency in that execution and the composure under pressure is still to come.

Hogan's run up should have been sorted out ages ago - we have a truckload of coaches at the club who could have helped him to straighten up his approach.

I've never seen so many theatrics by the Bulldogs.....too many of their players throw the head back like someone's hooked them on a line.

Pedo experiment over.

Outcoached today, I think....the opposition players knew exactly where to stand to nullify Gawn's taps.

Oh well.

I've seen a few people say this, and while I don't necessarily disagree, who do we bring in?  Regardless of form, Weideman and Hulett aren't ready yet.  The Frost experiment has basically failed.  So who do we play as that third tall/chop out ruck instead?

I think Hulett's ready Wiseblood and v Brisbane is ideal to be honest.

Very similar to the nth game.

A bit more composure and less fumbling and it might have been different. Why were our players slipping over so much?

Worst decision of the day 50 meter against Garland jogging downfield, well off the player with the ball, not interfering with play at all

Beaten by a side who probably have more talent than us, are better coached than us and have a playing group with a deep seated desire to beat their opponents. It's going to be hard for us against any kind of quality opposition given how far behind we are in that last category. From ground level it was clear in the first that we didn't have the same level of intensity as them.

Good to see we played the game out and finished with good tackle numbers.

Luke Beveridge seems like a good coach and they are certainly playing for him, but I really can't stand him. His comments on the Essendon saga were absolutely baffling, and his comments about Adelaide last week were pretty ordinary as well.

The Doggies are a very good, quick, skillfiull, pick right option, with great goal kicking targets who might, just might play of in this years Grand Final .

We on the other hand were streets away from them today!

Not saying for a minute t we didn't try but some of our preferred kicking and handball options were Woeful!

Sheeit, the umpires were veyr very poor today with decision making and knee jerk reactions.

Typical of blokes who A lack feel and B Have never ever played the game!

Gill must be loving it!!?

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
