I think it is now clear why we were so keen to get the Weed. The Club was always unsure of retaining Hogan. Hope we never, ever pick a Western Australian in the draft again.

O'meara, Franklin, Coniglio, Nev Jetta.

What an absurd thing to say.

Well managed clubs keep their talent, no matter where they come from.

Unless of course unforeseen circumstances arise which looks to be the case with Hogan. (Father's illness).

You must be in a safe-jacket within a house built of mesh as we speak.

Don't venture outside mate. Too many potential hazards are awaiting.

Will do. Although my sources tell me he has been growing a beard and will tell any inquisitive supporters that he is Ethan Tremblay from Demonland....

Don't you mean Nat will be disguised as Ethan Trermblay disguised as Zach Galifianakis

Didn't we get the Weed because Hogan 'demanded' another KPF to play alongside with?

How about the club buys him and his dad an Oculus Rift so they can hang out in virtual reality together, while he's in Victoria.

Technology mate, we've come a long way:wub:

I though Oculus Rift was Klingon for "[censored] me, he's been traded to Freo"

I believe he'll stay, but if we are to get pick 3, the smart money is on us using it on Todd Marshall.

Not to derail the thread too much, but I presume Marshall is a KPF, mate?

Because Hogan demanded or for team structure?

I think Ethan's being facetious. Someone ridiculously suggested that the reason behind Weideman's drafting was to appease Hogan.

Three scenarios.

1) Decides to re-sign on a long term deal.

2) Decides to go back to WA.

3) Plays on with us next year under current contract.

Tarde period officially kicks off on 10th October so thinking we would want an indication of where Jesse's intentions lie within the next fortnight.

Love to see the club come out shortly and say he's committed to a long term deal. Hate to say it but I've got a bad feeling about this.  Maybe it's just me being a typical negative Dee's supporter.

Agree with Bombay. Two top 10 selections with one being a top three.

I mean what did Treloar go for? Pies pick 7 last year and pick 7 this year.  Don't get me wrong Treloar is a gun but Hogan has more upside as key forwards are hard to get and take much longer to develop.

IMO it's very unlikely that he'll play on without having the situation sorted before the season. I seriously believe there is 0% chance we won't have a definitive answer by the trade period. I just can't imagine any scenario where the club would actually allow a full season without him extending his contract. It simply won't happen. He is either at Melbourne next year having signed an extension, or he is in WA.

I am willing to bet that come October 10, the club will know his intentions. He will either ask for a trade back to WA, or start with the contracting process. There's no other option for the club imo.

I'm honestly so over this saga.

I feel for the whole Hogan family if the illness stories are true, but I'm done investing in players who burn us. Scully, Frawely, Hogan... We will survive regardless.

Make a decision and let us all move on already!

Hogan via his agent may have been made a huge offer from a Victorian club that he has no real intention of going to.  A comparison is the possible huge offers that other clubs might have made to Dangerfield (including us, possibly)

That 'huge offer' then acts as the red herring - a sort of benchmark figure that can be used as a bartering tool.  And there might be more than 1 such offer - or, there may be no such offers.  We simply do not really know what is going on behind the scenes but anything of a realistic nature can't be ruled out.  Freo & the Eagles have probably made him an offer though.

Here are some of the factors at play that are feasible ...

  • The go home factor ... some sportspeople do genuinely get homesick
  • The attraction of playing for a team from his own state
  • His father's illness
  • The money on offer from any number of clubs
  • His possible 'loyalty' to the MFC
  • The offer on the table from the MFC (and the value of that offer)
  • His mates at the MFC and the friendships that he's built up at the MFC
  • The perception of the MFC from outside influences
  • The 'travel factor' if he decides to sign with a WA club (related to his back issues)
  • His thoughts on Simon Goodwin and the relationship that they now have ... he may have already met with Ross Lyon and/or Adam Simpson.
  • "The direction of the MFC" (his words and his agents words)

If he does decide to seek a trade then a deal will almost certainly get done (eventually) ... and that deal may well have already been discussed at length.

I hope he stays though and re-signs for a good length of time.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
