KPD's to target

Recommended Posts

Its becoming obvious that if we are to continue improving over the next 1-2 seasons that we'll need a very good kpd addition to support T-Mac.

As much as i love Hurley, i doubt he will leave Essendon. Even if he does he will command at least 800-850k a year (which id imagine would price us out unless Hogan asks for a trade at the end of the season)

Does anyone know the contract status's of any other good kpd's?

I was thinking the same - it needs to be our next priority.

We have two more KPF in Hulett and The weed as our hopefuls.

We have OMac as next KPD hopeful but we certainly need one more. ( or a ready made)

Nathan Brown (Collingwood) & Mitch Brown (West Coast) are both free agents and are big enough to play on the gorillas.

Both turn 28 in December this year, so they could be short term options if we think we could pinch a flag in the next 3 years while using the big money on a Prestia or Kelly???

We could try playing Frost in defence.

Frost is an athlete first and foremost and frankly, is still getting a handle on the most fundamental skills at AFL level.

I believe if we're to further improve our list across the board, we need to bring in another *quality* KP defender to complement Tom McDonald.

Frost is fine as backup at this stage and has already played a variety of roles across his career to date. He can be groomed as a defender, but we need better than that atm.

Hurley is clearly a target and I'm also aware Nathan Brown for Collingwood is OOC at years end and becomes a FA. 27 and seems to get injured a bit but I'd also be asking the question because at his best he is better than Dunn and Garland.

Hurley is the obvious one though, but like others I just can't see him leaving Essendon. One thing that I'm jealous of is how proud they are as a club and I think that helps with retaining players.

Hurley is an out-and-out gun.  If he were even slightly interested in coming to Melbourne, you'd just have to find a way to make it work.

However I see great potential in both JrMac and Frost and can see them, along with a cohesive defensive unit and two way running in the midfield, as being a good core of talls going forward.

Forwards are getting bigger

I expect we will need plus196cm types whereas we know have garland an dunne at 193 ish

Sam day?

Great suggestion dino rover.

He did do a pretty good job on Hogan last weekend considering how often the ball was coming in.

Initially drafted as a 196 cm forward with an enormous leap, he's taller than other KPD and if developed correctly could handle the likes of Daniher (201 cm) and Lynch (199 cm).

His form as a forward has been rather poor so he shouldn't cost too much in $$$ or picks.

I believe he is out of contract either this year or the next, and his good friend Trengove (if-signed) may be able to help persuade him.

The club should certainly keep him on the radar, and if they can acquire him for a bargain price (like they have others) I think he'll be an excellent acquisition.

Don't see the love for Nathan Brown.  He just got dropped from a side that can't win a game of footy.  Doesn't fill me with confidence, nor does he really look like an upgrade on Dunn or Garland.

Hurley is the obvious choice, but whether we can convince him to come over and play for us is another thing.

Tom, Oscar, Frosty - don't need anyone else...

2016 stats:

Lobb: 2.3

Daniher: 2.4 / 15 marks. Lucky he's the next Travis Cloke.

Waite: 4.0 / Petrie: 2.0 / Goldstein  5.2

Cloke: 2.0 (torn us a new one in 2015).

J. Riewoldt: 3.2

Bruce: 3.0, N.Riewoldt: 3.2, Membrey: 5.1

Lynch: 4.0

Franklin?

Kennedy?

Hawkins?

Walker?

Cameron (if he played)?

Sorry mate but Tom McDonald can't do it all, Oscar is far from his prime, and Frost is being played as a forward. Currently this is one of our greatest deficiencies.

A free agent key back such as Hurley or one of the Reids (if body up to it) would be handy. But our priority should still be building midfield depth and quality. One or two of Prestia, Whitfield, Gaff or similar will hopefully be targeted.

Is there any doubt amongst us that Taylor, TViney and Goodwin will massage this well to get a good outcome for the club?

Bring back Chip. How long before his contract ends?

Hurley is definitely #1 target

If not him I am sure Mahoney and co will have a very good plan B

Or if we decide against chasing a key back on big $$,  groom Sam Frost for the role, he has all the tools

Keep an eye out for Caleb Marchbank. Know the family and see the old lady walk past work on her daily morning walks and chat to her every now and then.

He is homesick atm and he is no rush at all to re sign with the Giants.

Nathan Brown would compliment our side beautifully. Underrated. He does his job, doesn't get much credit because he doesn't accumulate. As a lock down back man, he doesn't need to though. He would be perfect.

Don't mind Marchbank but I think too small (193cm) for what we need.

Would be interested to know how highly regarded O. Mac is viewed inside the MFC. His standing will no doubt influence our trade/draft period at the end of the year

Personally i think between TMac, Omac and Frost we have a stronger enough backiline in 2 to 3 years time. The club rate OMac very highly

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
