DeeSpencer 26,667 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 This is having a laugh. Tyson turned it over and didn't exert himself of the game. But we need him in the guts to Vince can go to half back. Along with Jones and Viney he's our only mature midfielder. He isn't going anywhere. If he keeps kicking it as he is there will be a time to drop him, but it's not way!
Buzzy 992 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 It's not just his kicking. I watched Dom closely throughout the NAB challenge and he has a shocking habit of handballing to feet when he's under no pressure. He did this again today when we were flying through the middle, under little pressure he handballed to Oscar running past, straight to his toes - and instead of an extremely promising inside 50 it became a horrible turnover. Unforced mistakes in the current game are what absolutely kill you due to the unpredictability, so limiting them is key. I feel like other players are leapfrogging him more and more as their impact on a game is just so much more valuable. When does Dom really impact a game and inspire his teammates? I don't want him to be dropped but he must surely be on notice - he needs to stand up and be counted and soon. Seems to have good goal sense and marking ability, maybe we try him forward for a game or two?
Deestroy All 14,266 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 His basic mistakes are the killers. Lazy handballs to someone 3 metres away that hit the ground. Was an absolute momentum killer in the 2nd. At least he got his holding the ball average down a bit today. I wouldn't drop him yet, but he's on shaky ground with the young talent around.

A midfielder has to kick well under fierce pressure Tickets should be sold for thursdays Match Committee long time since we had such a chance to bank consecutive wins...
Rob Mac...... 643 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I watched him at the G today and thought he caused so many turnovers by hand & foot, unnecessarily putting our guys under pressure. I'd give Petracca a one week taste next week & ask Dom at Casey for one week to really focus on what's going on around him when he has the pill so he can better advantage us with his disposal. Clarry played his first game today and in that department was miles better than Dom. He sees what's going on and does good things.
goodwindees 2,586 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 You're kidding aren't you. A slow, one sided, inside midfielder that doesn't have a great leap isn't cutting it in the midfield so we find a spot for him up forward.
dazzledavey36 56,278 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 While i dont agree that he should be dropped he does need to clean up his disposal real quick or else he could get overtaken by Brayshaw Petracca and Oliver as the starting mid. Il add Jack Trengove to that list.
Watts Jurrah Dunn? 735 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Laughable to say "it's only one game". His 2015 was atrocious. Tyson can't run, he's a very poor field kick (albeit a good kick at goal), and for an inside midfielder his handpassing is terrible. He consistently handpasses to teammate's feet. He'll keep getting games this year but eventually when we have some outside run to compliment the inside grunt of Brayshaw, Viney, Oliver etc, Tyson will be squeezed out. Thank christ we got Salem as part of the deal. GWS absolutely knew which one to let go.
Moonshadow 17,678 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Dom Tyson will not be dropped for round 2. Bugg/Harmes are more likely to make way if Brayshaw/Truck work their way in. Dunn likely for OMac.
Undeeterred 3,127 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 He won't be dropped but he was awful today. Just a terrible decision maker and is starting to be shown up by others who will eventually pass him by. That is such a shame because he is a great mark and can be a beautiful kick.
goodwindees 2,586 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Of course he won't be dropped in Rd 2 or Rd 3 or even Rd 4 as we still have a few bigger problems than Tyson, however, unless he significantly improves his disposal his omission will hopefully come. I say hopefully, because the day we can't fit Tyson (with poor disposal skills) in the team is the day we'll be in the top half if the eight. And to those who say he's an A Grader, he's C+/B-
rpfc 29,020 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 He was at his worst today, but he still contributed. He needs to get on top of his pretentious attitude toward handballing; some supremely talented players think themselves unworthy of practising such a mundane skill but he needs to work on that basic ability - because he is firetrucking terrible at it.

All Petracca has played since TAC Cup is a single match simulation at Casey, and yet people think that he is coming in next week? really?? the match committee is not going to bring him up to play next week as much as people would love to see it. Players have to earn a game, and I think he needs a few more credits in the bank before he gets a game. We all know he's exciting, but the kid has no match fitness at all... Oliver only managed what 58% game time today, we can't have two kids with limited game time.

And to those who say he's an A Grader, he's C+/B- I'd say hopefully he irons out a few messy disposals and covers the ground a little better. Because then he'll be B+ at least and we'll be on our way towards the 8. Not sure where we are going to find all these star midfielders to replace him any time soon given we still need plenty of talent around the ground. Brayshaw might have to play half back. Petracca will have to play forward. Who else do we have?
goodwindees 2,586 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 As was stated by Watts Jurah Dunn, we need some real outside run & class to compliment our inside grunt. This is where GWS got us today but they couldn't convert. It is imperative that Stretch becomes at least B+ (and I think he can) because he has what we need. Over the next year or 2 we need to find our Isaac Smith & Brad Hill. Look how these 2 compliment the grunt of Mitchell & Lewis etc.
P-man 13,367 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Deep breath. He's still a core midfielder and would need to play poorly for a few more weeks at least before coming under pressure at the selection table. This thread probably ensures he plays a blinder next week.
Adam The God 30,714 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 It's an interesting OP this. I'd be giving him one more week to improve his game and build a bit of confidence. I'd be replacing Bugg with Gus.

rjay 25,424 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I thought he was well below his best today but he is strong in the contest and takes some pressure off our other mids... On today's game I would say AVB was also ordinary at times, dropped some easy marks and made some poor decisions. Kent needs to take his opportunities, he needs to kick the gettable goals and make better decisions. Frost and Pedders didn't give much, Omac is a kid so will cut him some slack, Bugg was quiet, Salem did some good things but at times looked a step behind the play and his opponent. It wasn't a great performance today, there was much more wrong than just Tyson. We got the points because some of our players stepped up and that is a real bonus.
goodwindees 2,586 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Exactly what I said. We do have a few bigger problems than Tyson which is why we're a side likely to finish between 10 to 13. My point is that Tyson will need to significantly improve his disposal if he is to be part of a top 4 team.
Pates 9,697 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 He is so much better than what he's putting up in terms of his disposal. I don't see him being dropped for next week and his pre-season form wasn't bad, but if he continues down this current path then yes a stint in the magoos to remind him everyone has to earn their spot could be worth while.
whatwhat say what 23,836 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 He wasn't at his best today but to call for him to be dropped is ridiculous. He also wasn't alone in turning the ball over repeatedly. Some of the mistakes Vince made were just as bad.
KingDingAling 3,758 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Yeah, catcha Dom. Need to sharpen up the kicking. I thought he made a slight improvement in his major flaw (broadening his vision), but that is no use if he cannot hit a target. I would drop him even if he was in the VFL side. Sh*t kicking shouldn't be rewarded in any side. *On that note, thank god we haven't still got Scully on the list. Terrible kick, terrible execution, rushed, nothing has changed. He could have 40 kicks a game and still be a liability.

Slow, vey one sided and disposal by hand & foot is extremely poor when spotting up targets. GWS knew which one to let to go. horse5hit his first year with us he regularly put on some dazzling displays of skill and was a very valuable player he has it in him, but he's lost it for the moment

Why couldn't this op just be added to any number of other friends devoted to preview and changes for next week?? Glad we didn't drop Tom McDonald after that atrocious thread. i rate Tyson but to be fair this is much more than 'one off game'
