Media Gems of 2016

There was a thread similar to this last year and it gave me a few laughs so I thought I would start one for this footy season.

My first entry....

Just heard on the radio a media commentator saying they were "heading up for the blockbuster between Gold Coast and Essendon."

That is certainly not what I would call it.

It's certainly one of the round's most interesting.

"He has such ELITE (insert generic footy carp her)"

Every thing now-a-days is ELITE!!!

Why can't some things be average?

David King is the biggest plonker who bashes the sh!t out of the word... In fact most of the fox goobers have a penchant for all things ELITE at the moment.

gerard whateley has called that if clayton oliver doesn't get the rising star nomination this week it would be a surprise...you could hear sellars maclure snort in derision in the back of the box.

weitering's debut was good, but oliver's was better.

How about Gerard Healey gushing over $cully at the start of the last quarter, saying how great his aerobic running is, yadda, yadda, yadda. Pity he forgot to mention his appalling kicking which subsequently created a number of last qtr turnovers. Lol!

Who the [censored] is mark mcclure?!? Where do they finds these imbeciles to fill media roles... I'd rather read dumb [censored] on demonland then what these idiots have to say, at least we're all mfc here.

Parish did a fine job and will be in calculations too.

If that doesn't take the cake I don't know what does.

I

Has never had one nice word to say about the MFC, sticks the boots in every chance he can.

Thanks Darce.

You answered your own question. David King is very [censored] average!

I believe that's called a "chode."

Thanks Darce.

He works as a comedian on MMM as well as being a commentator and a "football brain".

For a tall, dopey dimwit from Adelaide he has come a long way, maybe too far, like Rove.

Just heard on the SEN preview of the West Coast v Brisbane game....

"I want to see how they use their balls."

During the Sydney - Collingwood game, from the inestimable Brian Taylor:

"...they've have their enthusiasm sucked out of their bottom..."

His dad is a Sunshine boy: my dad worked with him at British Tube Mills. I used to face him in the nets when he played for Sunshine Cricket Club. Her was a very good batsman who bowled mean leggies. His son may have been born in Adelaide when Darcy was transferred in his job bit Luke is a Western Suburbs boy.

( That might explain why he's not the brightest spanner in the tool box.)

Mark McClure is a Huntingdale member. To see him holding court there surrounded by fawning acolytes is galling. Seriously he is a buffoon.

Comment from Brereton about a Pies player:

"one of only 2 players on the ground with 100% disposal efficiency. Didn't really have a good game."

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
