Gee I wish I was still playing, I would kick swags of goals every week due to this "Zoning" !! But alas I always got the best defender to play on with the specific direction, Shut PF Down and you were half way to winning the game! As mentioned previously, Reiwoldt will think all his birthdays have come at once if he gets the free ranging, zone rebounding T Mac ! that being the case.

Couldn't care less about your career unless you're running out for the Dees on the weekend picket. game has evolved.

Our points against this year are plus 2 points and our scoring is plus four goals ( not exact figures but very close ) that to me says the new plan is working, our defense hasn't fallen off a cliff and our scoring has improved out of sight.

any time you implement a new plan in anything until it is executed the right way consistently it can look ugly, i am extremely confident we've nailed it down enough that we'll be able to limit the Saints scoring and win the game.

Tommy Mac has had a very good year in my opinion, his disposals can be an issue but fine on the weekend, he's taking intercept marks and attacking, and playing his role.

Yeah happy with your logic, but still beleive the attacking flair can be too much of a risk against those sides that will swoop on our fundamental errors! I still stand by my pionts, however, that T Mac is too lose in a man on man scenario! And of course we know about his decision making and execution problems!

You are aware we're playing a zone now? this means our defenders don't really have direct opponents as such, if a goal is given up it's the failure of the team, not of an individual unless they've not played their role, which i can assure you, Tom does very consistently.

That's all well and good, but if Riewoldt is running around doing as he pleases like he did last time then I want Tom McDonald to be wearing him like a glove.

It's no different to having a tagger.

the trouble is he's been playing on the wing, not sure we can afford to not have TMAC down back.

Disagree. As a forward you love the idea of being matched 1 on 1 so for a start Tom is already at a disadvantage. However there are only 2 defenders on our team that i feel can win more 1 on 1s than they lose thats Tom and Jetta. Jetta is ok if the ball is at ground level, in the air he will compete but as soon as he is out of position he is gone. Tom on the other hand no matter where the ball is he will make winning that contest a nightmare for whoever he is up against. He is our best 1 on 1 defender his spoiling is elite and his effort at ground level is huge for a big key backman. There are alot of defenders i would pick to go up against 1 on 1 before I would pick Tom. You can go about (somewhat unjustly) complaining about his disposal all you want but he is an outstanding defender.

Is telling Watts to play next to him on a wing crazy? I guess with nobody to play forward that would be an issue but Watts is capable of going with him... If there is any player Watts should be trying to be like it is Nick... I think jack could punish him on the rebound too.

Wasn't Roosy saying after the port game they would have liked to play Watts on Westhoff when he was on the wing running a muck. Maybe they will have that in mind this week?

I think it'd be a bit silly, Watts is in great form up forward and is one of our biggest attacking weapons against an undermanned back line, I'd personally be trying to stretch them down back as much as possible.

I think playing someone on him like Vince who will do as much damage the other way is the go, make Roo accountable and back our backline to cover him if he drifts forward.

Mate if that is your attitude towards modern football tactics, I predict that if you played today you would likely get an absolute bath!

Footy has been moving on for years. You can't punch people and we have zones. It's not the 70s anymore PF!

Picket, I am glad to see that you too recognise the great mans knighthood. Sir Robbie.

You may note that I include his letters  MBE DRBM  or to the layperson Melbourne's Best Ever    Deserrves Retrospective Brownlow Medal

Sorry but I digress ...again.

Yes, it's crazy...

For a start Watts couldn't go with him...he's never had a great tank, improved it a lot but not at Nick R levels.

Who's going to take 2nd ruck duties?

He's a vital part of the machine, floating forward, ruck option and dropping back....don't change it.

Sad to say looks like everything is pointing to Tom being at Sydney next year. Way too many whispers saying he has already agreed with them, their list has huge holes with retiring players as key backs. No one puts off contracts and then signs at the end of the year. Dissapointing as I think he will turn into AA defender

Just hear that on SEN too Tappy?

For those that didn't hear it, there is gap between what was said on SEN and what Tappy has mentioned.  To add to the story, it was a caller that made the claims.

Take out of it whatever you please.  I know I'll be taking the grain of salt.

Brian Waldron teed off on a lot of rumours, Tom Mitchell to Hawks, Bulldogs into Hurley big time and Hibberd keen to join Melbourne and wants out. He stated that he didn't know anything about McDonald, it was Chris, a regular caller and D's fan who bought up the topic of McDonald to Sydney and then it grew from there.

To those talking about Roo beating tmac again, last game Tmac was no where near him. Jetta spent more tine opposed to him.

I hope Tmac goes somewhat nearer to him this week, im over losing to the saints.

If it was Chris from Camberwell I wouldn't be too concerned.

Absolutely no worries about T Mac leaving.  we are finally on the rise and he is running out with his brother each week

anyway, Sydney's main deficiency is kicking skils, so yeee-ah, nah

Can't say I know his work intimately but I'm not familiar with his work being rock solid. Possibly a mention on here that's been passed on Chinese whisper style. Will stand to be corrected if it comes to fruition but I'd be surprised. Why would you stay all this time only to leave as the good times start coming

Tom is a quality player and there is no doubt he's attracting outside interest, but all the talk coming out of the club such as Roosy saying " i'd be staggered if he leaves"  tells me that the talks are either well on the way or he's already locked away and they haven't announced it yet.

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc.
