Certainly he's a senator for a little known, irrelevant and lost party. Soon to be a very brief footnote to parliamentary history if Malcolm gets his way.

Surely this would require AFL media accreditation which the AFL could not provide to a suspended player?

Don't worry.   They will run it by their Untegrity Commissioners who will say it is ok.

Good call.

I knew there was a top level cover-up underway as soon as the ASADA charges were laid, but i'm absolutely staggered, that NOBODY of high profile, has attacked the drug cheating scum, and called them for what what they are. To a man(woman), everyone has backed them, and called for insane outcomes, such as leaving WADA/Chasing ASADA/Accusing everyone EXCEPT the bloke who instigated the program.

This country has lost 100% of its anti-drug standing. We used to be the recognised world leader in the fight against drugs, but the essendrug cheating affair has exposed us for what we really are.  Soapbox preaching, better than you, grandstanding, world champion hypocrites, of zero integrity.

F*&k dill, and his afl sycophants, you all make me want to spew.

It's disgusting that in this country so many are scared to speak out against the old boys club.

Some how , it's footy and that makes it OK.

From Tim Watson absconding from his duty as a father in favour of that club to the AFL openly condoning the flouting of rules. We're a sad society at times.

There was a time the 4th estate would lead a crusade. Now most are worried about upsetting the false-god.

The snakeoil sellers are winning.

What went wrong !!

Hear, hear.

On SEN this morning, KB & Smith were bickering about whether Essendon should pay for Carlise, Melksham, etc. Was it caveat emptor, or should EFC wear all costs? Neither made their case very well.

I felt like calling in and saying EFC should pay because they should be hit from all directions with whatever penalty. They not only caused immense damage to the game of Aussie Rules, but to our nation's standing in the world of sport. Hit them with everything so that no-one ever dreams of doing such a regime again.

(but I know from experience that calling SEN is literally a waste of time.)

The Dealmaker had his chance to show the world where he stands on drugs in sport ... and he took it. He's shown the world.

Funny, isn't it. Time was that you wouldn't hear a swear word on TV or at respectable functions, but hear it in spades at the footy. We used to be a lot less reverent and polite, and calling someone an effing d'head was pretty mild in many quarters. Now we seem to hear casual swearing everywhere, but otherwise are far too polite for our own good. As for institutions, we seem to not call them out for bad behaviour, whether it is footy or not.

Insane isnt it. Fully agree.

I wonder sometimes how Ahmed Saad must feel as this progresses.

Ive noticed a real change in my reading habits during this saga. I used to love the papers but I read them LOT less now ( the've been SO full of compromised bullsh@t) and read social media much more.

We've officially moved into some kind of football dictatorship, full of propaganda and cowtowing. No one can be trusted to stand outside the enforced norm. (Wonder if Whately will suddenly retire sometime this year) But hey, pies are 50 cents cheaper and by golly there'll be no players on phones. If I wasnt so addicted to seeing melb win another honestly Id want to walk away from the sport.

For a coach of the Doggies Beveridge has a lot of inside knowledge of the banned players movements. He is aware they are all training together next week including Crameri. F me dead this ban is a joke of the highest order.

A number have said it already but the AFL community is just thumbing its nose at the sanctions handed down for PED use. We've been found out as a parochial backwater that bleats about everyone else being to blame for our own dark waters. Take ownership of the f up AFL, Dons, players, AFLPA, media lap dogs, Balme, Mr 0/300 Warner, Dons groupies. It happened and they were found to have broken the rules of the code, banned for 2 years.

Yep, the afl community will win this fight, and its really no competition.

The drug cheats will get an early pick in this years draft, and I'm betting they will see a priority pick, and extra afl funding in the next few years.

The banned drug cheating players will be feted like a returning MacArthur, and treated like the victims that the sycophants have portrayed them as through the entire drug cheating saga.

essedon will be back in the top 8, faster than you can say "i took illegal, performance enhancing drugs, and was caught and exposed as a cheat by WADA", and that sickening dweeb gil, and his fawning lackys, will be smirking all the way to the bank.

Make no mistake, this is nothing more than corporate greed and selfishness, winning over fairness, and what is right.

They will probably be in a stronger position as a club in the next few years than they were prior to Turd reign. If they win a flag before we do, or the Dogs, Saints... Well the Comp is fd already but you know what I mean.

Senator pushing for review of ASADA.

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/essendon-saga-senator-john-madigan-wants-confidential-documents-released-20160223-gn0z12.html

Sounds to me very much like he has accepted the ramblings of the donkey!

I'm surprised that a number of posters on here seem surprised by this development. What we have learned from this episode is that someone's stance on this scandal seems to be determined by a. Whether they are Don's supporters ( Daniel Andrews, Robbo, Chip Le Grand, Thompson - global head of news limited, Linda Dessau - Victoria Govenor, Lindsay Tanner),  - or b. Using the episode for self aggrandisement or self promotion (Gordon, Tracey Holmes, Beveridge, this senator).

Anyone with a minor public profile is almost guaranteed to get a headline by making unsubstantiated remarks about the scandal, particularly if they give a fig leaf of hope for the rusted on Bomber fans, many of whom seem to think that they have been subject to a huge conspiracy and as Hird keeps on say "truth will out and they will all be saved"

well they won't be, but it doesn't stop some from using it as a platform for their self promotion. Fortunately, none of it will make any difference to the outcome.

Footy is at the crossroads, again. If Gil the Dill and his cronies keep running red lights it's inevitable that some will be left in tears.

Beveridge has shown his true colours. He now joins a list I despise i.e.Those that seek to win by unfair advantage.

And Joe Public will be caressed into believing any help that is bound to be given 'poor victim' Essendon is good for the game.

That moment will probably coincide with me turning away from the game. Doubt I'll be alone.

It will be interesting to see whether there will already be any drop off in enthusiasm and attendances this year, the ANZAC game in particular.  I for one haven't watched it since this scandal broke.

And as long as Jab holds on to his Downlow I certainly won't watch that farcical "show"

No doubt if any of this happens Gil and his Mafia will spin it somehow - Olympics, climate change, economic conditions, etc.

Its actually a disgrace.

Makes me sick.

And you know they'll let jobe keep his Brownlow.

And theyll get pick 1

And if they are rubbish next year theyll get pick 1 and a PP

Theyll keep anzac day and all the other stuff

And their fans will keep telling us all how much we all need essendon to prop up the poor shitty clubs who they personally rescued because they wouldnt exist without the revenue that essendon bring in

Vomit.

I have all ready decided to never watch another DrugsLord game even if its against Melbourne.

Personally, I believe people should boycott their games to send a message to the AFL Commission.

Drug cheating is Unaustralian and sporting bodies should never support those who practice it.

I find it hard to comprehend how the AFL Commission is considering to allow Jab to keep the Brownlow after all it is awarded is for the Fairest & Best. How can you possible be the fairest if you have taken banned substances which may have improved your performance for the year?

Don't start me on what I now think of the AFL Commission!

In an ideal world, there is a chance that this could happen. If the media were up in arms and lobbied for such a thing. Wasn't there once talk of boycotting Etihad over the food pricing?

However our empty headed and easily manipulated fanboy media will not do this. They will encourage the opposite because "they've suffered enough" and "surely WADA isn't appropriate for AFL" ... even supposedly neutrals like Any Maargh and Luke Farcy.

Bub, I don't understand your concern about the phone use issue. The AFL, like many other sports, is concerned about corruption in betting which can lead to compromised results. Hence, the AFL integrity people - the ones who you scorn - are attempting to put in place measures to protect the sport from this worldwide scourge. One of those measures, adopted by many sports around the world, is to require sports people (including officials) to leave their phones behind. And now you're criticising the AFL for doing what seems to be the right thing to protect the game's integrity? Or have I misunderstood you?

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
