Mod's,  can we have the Casey thread pinned at the top, at least while Trenners & Petracca are making a come back?  we can maintain all the updated goss',  & also gamedays.

I think the front half of season in AFL will be up & down after today,  till we  settle our side with some more experienced talent.  Dunn, Trenners;  & then Petracca,

Some positive news in this thread at least. I know Trenners, Petracca and even Weideman will come in time, but I am really happy ANB had a good game (by the look of it). He is one of the fittest guys at the club, and I think there is a spot for him in the seniors, as early as next week after today's debacle.

I arrived about 10 minutes into the first quarter and as I walked in Trengove took a strong mark and kicked a great goal from about 40m.  It was a great sign.

It took me quite a while to work out who was who so I might have missed some of the good work by the MFC listed players in the 1st quarter by half time I had them pretty much pegged.  Having said that it took me till the last quarter to pick out Jayden Hunt.

Alex Neal-Bullen was the best demon player over 4 quarters, played in the centre and was constantly in the game, kicked a couple of goals following the ball forward.

Dunn played well at full back, looked short of a gallop but seemed to get better as the game went on.  Half way through the 3rd quarter he came off for a spell and i heard him say to someone on the interchange that he was fuched but he played a good last term.  I think he'd be right to come in next week.

Trengove was in everything early, moved very smoothly was clean and made good decisions.  Looked to be doing it pretty easily at this level to be honest.  He was rested for almost all of the 4th quarter.

Petracca was very good in patches, he was off and on the bench a lot and came off about half way through the 3rd quarter.  He has great hands in traffic, very soft.  I was surprised to see he had 20 touches.

Hunt - As I said I didn't realise it was him until the last quarter and he was good.  He used his speed a few time and broke the lines but tends to blaze away and not kick it to the advantage of the forwards.

Weidemen was good, took some good marks, positioned himself well in the forward line and kicked straight from what I saw.  Still very raw, but isn't afraid to throw himself into the contest.

Hulett - another i didn't realise who he was until late.  Will need time but did some nice things leading up to the wings.

I'll think of more later, any questions just ask.

Cheers,

HB

Based on what you saw, who would be in the frame for elevation next week?

ANB was Best On Ground and I expect him to come in.  Dunn was solid, didn't do much wrong.  He probably comes in too.  Trengove was probably next best but I think he'll need more game time before coming into the Melbourne side.  I thought Stretch was pretty poor to be honest.

What did Trengoves kicking and pace look like?

Kicking was outstanding, can't think of a miss or at least a complete clanger.

Pace wise, he had plenty of time and space around him whenever he had the ball.  He looked to be getting around for the most part at about 3/4 pace.  I don't recall him sprinting or needing to sprint at any stage.  He never looked rushed but didn't look quick like Hunt, Stretch and Frost

I feel like one of Stretch or Grimes have to come in. We just need the run. I'd go Stretch unless he was poor.

Similarly I think we need to consider how well White, Wagner and Hunt played because we might need of those guys in at half back.

We can't keep going with the same guys in those spots.

Just on Frost he does some absolutely spectacular things, like bursting out of packs and sprinting through the middle but his kicking is terrible.

I'm not sure what his role is or will be in the future.  Not a forward and he is not a reliable kick for goal and is kicking from Defence would be a liability. Not tall enough to be a decent ruckman.

Tall wingman?

I thought White was disappointing, tbh he looked a little overweight and slow.

Wagner was good but his first movement and action is to look sideways.  He probably had a dozen kicks at CHB that went sideways.  They hit a target, but didn't advantage the team all that much.

Grimes was solid but he was far from dominant for someone who should be a level above VFL.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
