I used to talk to Cameron Schwab at the the footy, and while he undoubtedly left us in a very bad state, I doubt I've met a more passionate MFC person, apart from Jimmy.

So yes he fucked up, we know it, I'm sure he knows it and I'm willing to bet he was as upset about it all as we were.

We're in a better place now, we should probably enjoy that and move on.

I'm a big believer that we should not remain bitter about his time at the club as quite frankly hate and bitterness will do more harm to the hater than the hated in the end. I think a lot of these conversations about him are navel gazing of the worst kind and just lead to unnecessary aggro. However, to say that he was some kind of misunderstood soul is disingenuous.

I won't bring his name up unilaterally and for no reason. As I said, the fact we haven't spoken about him as much has been one of the best parts of the last two years.

That being said, as I said in the first paragraph of the post that you referenced, I don't accept historical rewrites either. I will respond to them and give (I'm not trying to sound too grandiose or self important here) what I feel are the true version of events. I will grant, and I said this at the time he was at the club, that Schwab was not a Blofeld style James Bond villain plotting and scheming our downfall. On the other hand, It should also be said that it's misleading to portray him as some kind of pure figure either.

I think now we should drop the Schwab stuff. We've all said our piece. It's old and rehashing it serves no purpose. I felt I needed to set the record straight on a few things but I have no further desire to talk about him and I'm sure most of the posters on here have no desire to do so either.

I understand the need to manage expectations, but the season is 4 months away and the CEO is already offering pre-emptive excuses for thrashings and poor performances which haven't even happened.

We're not world-beaters so there's point pretending otherwise, but the sub-text here is that we're still a bit of a basket case and a certain level of mediocrity is to be expected, and even tolerated.

It's a terrible message to send to new players and supporters alike.

I wouldn't go that far.

I hope that (and I can't be sure about this) he is referring to the on field side of things. If he is talking about admin. then I would be worried as those are things that they should have greater control over. Though on that side, I'm very comfortable if you look at how signings/re-signings have been handled and how we handled our brand relaunch. Hell, even when they arsed up the open training this year (?), the club was out on the front foot straight away apologizing.

I think the words time to time are key here. The frequency of when we get thoroughly outclassed should be 'time to time' (read occasionally) thing and not a weekly thing as it was before. Experiencing hard times is a given as hard times should not always be equated with defeat. I view going through hard times as facing adversity but ultimately pulling through that adversity be it injuries, tough draws or other circumstances.

Ironically, you are misrepresenting the views of those of us who are happy we have moved on from his leadership but that won't eternally damn him for it, and would welcome him back to the G to watch the club he loves.

I have said my piece. Take it for what it's worth. If you don't agree with my assessment of how I see things then so be it.

As I said, as far as I'm concerned, the discussion concerning Schwab has already derailed this thread and should come to an end. This is my last post concerning it.

By the way, no one literally called him a 'pure figure'. It was how I perceived what was being said.

I wouldn't read to much into it, he's right. It is a different players club now it has turned the corner but we are still not going to fast but it is building up.

I'm purely talking of how I feel about the last 8 years 'rpfc'. It's not about getting stuck in mud, I'm happy that pretty much all responsible have been moved on now and we seem to be on the right path.

I don't feel particularly charitable to CS, Lyon and the board that oversaw the disaster.

Stability is the key to our clubs continued upward trend, we created stability in the coaching ranks by signing Roos for the 3 years and then getting a successor for him for another 3 years after that, and now that PJ has committed to another 2 years we know the club is in good hands up at the top of management.

Yep. What in looking forward to now is the next step. PJ was always planning short term but is he now planning long term? Hopefully part of this extension he has stated if this is definitely it or if he is open to staying on.

If the former, hopefully we start putting a succession plan in place. That may mean recruitment with an eye to internal stability. Or it may mean setting our sights on a target within the industry.

Whatever happens, I hope PJ helps over see that transition too.

It is an amazing feeling, 3 years of stability for our club with a promise of 5. I can't remember the pay tone we went that long without agitation or a coup.
